I had a wonderful dream where I was on guard duty paired up with a tall mystery woman, (can't recall her face if she had one, or if she was wearing a helmet, but I do remember that it was somewhat chilly), and she popped her coat open just enough for me to fit inside, with an inviting head tilt that I can only describe as lifting an eyebrow in terms of body language. We stood on a concrete platform jutting out from a pillar that looked just like the ones you run on in the sewer section of Mirror's Edge, with me wrapped up under her coat, with my head peeking out from her collar and her chin resting atop my head. It was exceptionally cozy; I can still barely remember hard nips lightly digging into my shoulders, and the chill wind burning my nose.Then I woke up and forgot like 90% of the rest of the dream and spent the next few hours feeling depressed. Some actress was complaining recently because someone redid a movie poster to look like the source material (Wicked, I think) and hid her eyes in shadow. She said it was racist and dehumanizing.I've been into this stuff since my most formative years and now I find myself wondering -- do I like it BECAUSE it's dehumanizing? Is it even actually dehumanizing in the first place? I guess you could almost call it a form of objectification but really I think for the most part masks just look cool to me. Masks are a way for the wearer to completely change their face, to completely hide the person they are underneath. You wear them voluntarily (usually) and you're in control of how you act when you do. Masks are scary and unsettling to many people for this reason, you have no idea if the person underneath is a threat. So for me personally I think it close? Say you have sex with a person whose only face you've ever seen is that of their mask. Your partner has the power to completely have distanced herself from you. They know your face, they know your body, and you for all practical purposes only know them for their persona. Now make the masked person dangerous, give them weapons, make them even more suspicious. I don't know, I really like that either the whole thing is extremely dangerous, OR that they've let you get this intimate even in spite of the distance their mask makes. Or even that it's just sexy that a scary powerful woman like that just wants to have sex. To me it all boils down to how the mask jives with the character.That and when I was a kid I used to not to be able to draw faces at all so I gave all my OCs masks
