Here's Chapter 30 of The Howler!
I love how it's still spelled, "Howling" in the OP

Today is also a special day, because not only is it the big chapter Three-Zero milestone, but it's also the one year anniversary of me starting this series! Time sure flies. I know you /xeno/ people weren't here from the beginning like the /bzzt/bros were, but thanks for sticking with me this far. This chapter's all on Quillion, and while he's not the most exciting perspective right now, I know how much you people love Human unga-bunga technology, and I'm sure this chapter won't disappoint.

Also, >>9070141 already posted my wonderful sheet for the Fyrix, so I made this bonus image. It's a Fyrix judging you for your taste in online literature.

>Do you think some aliens would fool humans into performing sexual acts that from the outside look perfectly innocent?
Yes, absolutely there would be. As a consequence of being sapient, telling a lie is another way that a person can manipulate reality to do what they want. In spite of the consequences to others (or themselves when discovered)

What's more interesting would be the psychological motivation behind inventing or having the want or need to lie. The simplest reason is that they're a liar, a pervert or a rapist even among their own species; they don't value the integrity of someone else's body, or truth, or the boundaries regarding sexual activity.

The more complex and benign reasons i can imagine is that it would be a severely fumbled attempt at seduction with an as-yet unrevealed willingness between all parties, either from ignorance of procedure, or from personal gossip stories (real or invented) or half-learned external educational sources (which may have been made from a "professional" with less than altruistic intent; the sabotaging of would-be rivals in the xeno-fucker/xeno-love market)

Example: If a human wants an alien to comb their hair (with a hair comb) does the alien also just assume the human wants their pubic hair combed as well? Can the alien make the assumption of where the human genitals are? Does the human let the alien do the job despite the misunderstanding? There are lots of levels to the internal monologue anyone has that could be explored by this. Similarly, what would this situation look like if it was reversed?
>>
>>9070244
I agree with cute (conjecture), beaky Aliu engineer; Was "Weld another plate onto the fore" really their entire plan for completely unknown volumes and magnitudes of relativistic space debris along an entire multi-year near-light interstellar trip?
Is the particle net supposed to intercept and convert most of the matter that would be abrading the ship? But I Imagine any particle above "handful-of-molecules" size would be a bit much for it to handle, so then we are right back to constantly rolling dice as to whether a completely unforeseeable grain of space-gravel strikes that poor soda can like a thousand nukes. Did they at least have something like a separate ablative/reactive shield ahead of the hull?
Feels kinda foolhardy and dangerous. But I guess that's just human interstellar travel before "antimatter-fueled subspace fields Trek-tech" in a nutshell.
If you find an extra-solar planet that might hold sexy space allens, you just gotta go! No matter if your current tech level renders it multi-year near suicide!

I love this kind of interstellar-travel-tech stuff! Yet another great chapter, and another great miscommunication!

>The Howling from the Void by SeventhSinnerSix
binged this and it's great, i want more.
how do i know it's great?
even if i was told the real conclusion to the story i would still read the intermediate parts to find out how/why the ending happened the way it did.

character motivations make sense, character interactions make sense because of those motivations. great hypothetical on alien social structure and while still alien it is relatable at the same time, because the motivations can be understood. (assuming the reader is cynical enough or not being naive about real life and the people that unfortunately inhabit it; the ultimate choices some characters make are structurally congruent with real life)

the one human in the story (so far; only up to ch.30 exists) is appropriately sympathetic and understandably motivated in his choice of actions. also a good demonstration of why you should never underestimate what a person is, and imply who they are from what they are, and end up making a bad situation worse.
unga bunga, my grug, live that wild man life.

(please live and go home, i need this happy ending)

I don't blame you, it's all consistently inconsistent. Normally "bearded" ones are male, but Reenma's people basically have albino hair. Makes their women look *super* butch or tomboyish (I've got a bonus comic planned about that.) I even have a little info about them now, too.

There's references to what Fyrixian romance looks like between their couples but there are no "gory details" about the physical actions involved.
Technical Sergeant Eigen Morris, the human, might as well be an asexual aromantic at this point in the story (at least towards the Fyrix) considering his mental state after the opening incident.

>>
>>9072985
You bet it is. There's still a lot of work to be done, that's another image set I've been wanting to draw, too.
>>9073171
I'm making some good progress on the next page today, so I can use some time to see if I can help you out. Basically, I throw out all the everyday phrases you and me use out and substitute them. Why? Because I wanted to see some alien versions of them for once. If you've ever heard how characters talk in sci-fi like cyber-punk 2020/2077, it's a lot like their future slang. I'm trying to make it as understandable as I can within reason, by making it something you can get at face value most of the time. But something like a "Habit" is bit more specific, so I can see the confusion here. It does imply some things by the name alone, though.

If you want to learn more, there's some short little stories I've written in a google doc (before I copy them onto my website in the near future) about them and the setting they're in. If you're looking for further explanation, there's an in-character one in the footnotes of "The Thorned Hope of the Wastes." If that doesn't help, we can workshop it. I'm always willing to tweak some things.

look at those big ol'eyes, she's really cute, especially with the size difference. i think it would be really interesting to have a dynamic where a xeno waifu has strange desires about the human body and her human hubby lets her do it because it's harmless
>come home to your massive waifu's den/warehouse section of the ship
>part of the reason she likes to french kiss you is to run her "tongue" all around the inside of your mouth because the chemicals in your saliva interact with your diet in strange ways
>she likes the taste of your sweat, so she's constantly cleaning you because her den or room is always kept so warm
>she likes the taste of your skin, so you always let her "clean" you first before you go shower
>same goes for your pre and your cum
>she makes a little hammock for you near the base of her body because she likes your body heat there. she's even made a little desk for you to use while keeping you in contact.
>she carries you along with her massive body to meet up with others of her kind to show you off. they poke and prod your body a little (as is polite) to compliment her on her choice of mate
>she releases her clutch of eggs one at a time instead of in a bunch, so that you can fertilize each and every single one of them inside her body, since human spunk is so potent

After 20,000 years of mind slavery and torture, the Ur-Quan would never, and yet that makes it all the sweeter to imagine slowly soothing their surly and secretly terrified hearts until they slowly start to heal, eventually clinging to their tiny, puny human. Of course you'd need to doubly overcome their predator's instincts, but that's just part of the challenge

Very nice work. Seems like they have a reflex or instinct to warn them a predator is approaching from behind? Weaving that into a sex thing is creative, a unique kink to their species adds a lot to them. It's kind of like playing with the gag reflex.

it would probably only spring from a situation in which she cannot harm the human and the human is powerless to force her to do anything. instead of focusing on master-slave dynamic and fearing nothing for her safety, she might learn that it's okay to just...want to be with someone. to enjoy someone else's company without expectations. in fact, the human might be the only person she's ever known to think that way, which would make him precious.

>(assuming the reader is cynical enough or not being naive about real life and the people that unfortunately inhabit it; the ultimate choices some characters make are structurally congruent with real life)
Well having an high level of intelligence does happen to come with the capability of cruelity, which we can find in cetacean and the apes. So I could see aliens being as capable of having flaws in their motivations, characters and societal norms, and still come off having good reasons on justify them. It help to make the aliens feel somewhat real I feel.
Having Zyrrs being an Fyrix equivalent of an misanthrope is something I don't see in really any sci-fi with aliens, as well as having Nestiri being somewhat a caring person, despite being part of the cutthroat higher-ups that has a link to the Apex, who is basically a massive douchebag.

The alien characteristic in this story is certain a step-up compared to the gaybug one, in which the Annenoid just come off as a saintly race compared to humanity in part 2, despite them openingly taking in a human traitor while wishing to retain a good relationship with the humans becuase the fact we don't share all our secrets with them was seen as a bad thing. Even the ending of the story has the Annenoids basically opening their world to the humans in the lab and footing the bill on the research while we come off as the race with massive trust issue and who developed nuclear weapons. I can't tell if the whole one-sided offer is meant to be just from Annenoid kindness or them wishing to keep the humans in good relations, who now as a justifable reason to distrust the Annenoid who accepted asylum who just something criminal and has shown to be openingly misanthropic toward other people in response to the quarantine (and yet make him an ambassador, which is unbelievable)

not that anon, but: the brains' meninges, versus momentum of impact.
re: concussions, the brain hitting the inside of the skull, and brain bleeds.

as soon as the body is accelerating to a certain speed, the brain is also undergoing that same acceleration. mass * velocity = force.
if the amount of force that's exerted on the meninges, those little membranes that keep the brain in-place inside the skull, can snap them... you're going to have your brain hit the inside of your skull.
that's a concussion.

hit hard enough, blood vessels will rupture and now you're both concussed, and bleeding internally around your brain if not inside the brain itself.

a dinosaur hitting someone in power armor hits them twice: on first contact with the dinosaur's body, and then when the power-armor hits something that stops it from its trajectory.

tl;dr
very yes

the fabled 'Humans and Aliens share the same planet on the same tech level with the same stakes' also known as 'the fantasy genre'
>>
>>9075300
this always happens in stories because humans have, have always had, and will always have, people among them who are the types that play grand strategy games. therefore, they will seek engagements that make the aliens look like jobbers, but if the aliens were to strike them unprepared, then the humans look like jobbers. the simplest example is if humans bring energy weapons or mass driver weapons to a space battle based on the aliens' defenses. they'll either mop the floor with the aliens or get crushed by the aliens.

on the other hand, in settings where there's an entire galaxy of different alien species (like space dandy or guardians of the galaxy) you can totally avoid this by forcing the humans to have their wits about them, think tactically, and take risky measures that would be crazy by other galactic standards that let them win in the end (or at least survive situations where others would not). always having a different and exotic alien in your back pocket available to you as a writer to pit against the humans helps avoid the inevitable analysis and countermeasure strategizing that would be done both the characters in-universe and by the readers.

The way I imagined it is that they have two brains, but their BODY is mostly controlled mostly autonomically, just like with us. So they probably dont experience any problems with control, since the two heads live together their whole life. But they have two seperate personalities, one aggressive, one passive. One decisive and one observant. And the sum of both controls the body as well as the autonomic nervous system! Most humans dont consciously control their bodies anyways, so it wouldn't be that strange feeling!
Hope that answers a bit.
>>
>>9074730
The picture just has this feeling that the alien is drawn to the human, like this is an abduction that was done just because she wanted to take a human home with her. Too bad galactic law doesn't apply to races that hasn't even reach to another planet.

It's details like these that demonstrate how much effort you've put into the story. Anyone who says "Do less" is a fucking moron who can be ignored. They're fundamentally suggesting that you stop putting in effort and soul into the work.
>>
>>9075711
Hey fool, the line people keep saying, and this has happened basically every time their stuff gets posted, is not "do less" it's "I don't understand what they're saying". If people lack the context to even realize what they're attempting to do then that's a failure of presentation.
I legit assumed for the longest time english was a second language with the writer.

You jest, but honestly I really like the idea of a sci-fi story where aliens show up in the Solar system and it just turns out they are operating on modern era technology instead of being crazy advanced.
>only advanced piece of technology they had was their massive ship, which they don't even know how to build or maintain because they stole it from the more advanced species that invaded their original home world, which was destroyed in the conflict
>they've been sailing through space for hundreds of years before stumbling upon our solar system by cosmic happenstance
>they crash land on a large island on Earth (like Greenland or something)
>they are just militarily strong enough to at least match the world powers but are nowhere near strong enough to just mop the floor with the Human race
>war breaks out between aliens and whatever country they land on and their allies
>instead of laser weapons and robot swarms, they use novel but startlingly familiar kinetic projectile based weaponry and bulky attack craft
>aliens winning because there is a shit ton of them, all of them are armed and they fight like they have more to lose but both sides are left bloodied and don't want to escalate the conflict
>aliens broker for peace and allow Humans to study their stolen ship in exchange for annexing the place where their ship landed to build a new home for themselves as a sovereign country
>Humanity doesn't learn much from the ship because its been barely holding itself together, most of it is beyond repair and anything remotely advanced was destroyed when they crashed
>now, in the modern day, there is just a nation of aliens living on an island on Earth, living in relative harmony with Human nations, trading with them and co-mingling with Humanity but constantly building their military in case another alien species comes across Earth
Something like District 9, but the ayys aren't just kept in a giant South African ghetto.
>>
>>9076087

FOR SCIENCE
>>
>>9076149
The only problem I can see is the mundanity working against it, making it too deep into making them an equivalent to any other nation raising the question of why they're not just a regular human nation. It's District 9 without the stakes.
I like having aliens on earth in ways that aren't cheap allegories like District 9 or Alien Nation, but it's super hard to do when they're at an even level. From the sound of things that one Turtledove series pulled it off but I haven't read it myself so I don't know for sure.
>>
>>9076219
You can still have aliens be alien without them being hyper advanced or space faring. Their biology, culture, religion, history and outlook could still be alien and exotic while they're just a modern 1st world nation existing alongside the rest of the world. Not every scifi story needs to have a power gap. The aliens could be equals in terms of power and technology and it could still have stakes and unique challenges.

That's about what one has to do, been thinking on this and came to the same conclusion that it has to be driven by how different they are.
That has it's own tightrope to balance on, mainly that it would create a divide between it and humanity that raises the question of why their existence is even tolerated.
>>
>>9076149
Why would they need to steal a ship? As far as modern scientific understanding goes, even 1950s technology could’ve carried humanity across the stars.

I played this pretty cool game called the Fermi Paradox and in it you can have an event where a species gets invaded by another and, in a bid to escape extinct, steals one of their ships and begin fleeing to a different world. Thought that was a pretty neat premise for a story.
>even 1950s technology could've carried human across the stars
What?
>>
>>9076256
I meant 1960’s, but simply put, space travel isn’t a matter of technology, but of scale and industry. The technology and science of that time could’ve, with significant investment and resources, have made even journeys to close solar systems. For interstellar travel, time would be the only issue.
>>
>>9076149
I actually have a setting like this that I want to write some stories for, where unexplainable wormholes link different solar systems together, and tourism becomes the biggest interstellar industry instead of war.

>>
how tired or worn is the story trope that humans' love or friendship or bonding is both novel and infectious for non-humanoid aliens? i love the idea that an alien is first drawn to humans out of curiosity or novelty, and then through getting to know for them, talking with them, and having to care for them in a literally alien environment, they come to care just as deeply for the human as the human does for the alien?

You say that, but yet we tolerate bizarre places in the world like North Korea even though by all rights we should be going in there and freeing a brainwashed populace.
Odd places can exist in the world in a vacuum, and the aliens would likely be much the same.

I feel that most aliens would have some form of love and friendship. Maybe they'd show it in a different way (imagine an angler fish style alien wanting her human mate to bite her for long periods of time) but they would still love and care assuming they aren't extremely solitary.

I do like the idea of them being more interested in the idea of mating with humans though just because humans have a reputation for being okay with fucking anything. Like they don't think about it with other species, but when they see human culture they think "you know what, maybe I could fall in love with a human".

>alien species that has advanced to the point that they reproduce purely through cloning and have done so for hundreds of years
>there are male and female members of this species, but they've both been infertile and incapable of natural reproduction for generations
>due to this, they no longer experience romantic or familial love and believe they have "evolved beyond" such primitive feelings
>they're society is logical and pragmatic to an extreme, and they no longer form friendships or relationships
>one day, clone alien explorer finds Earth
>she scouts out the place
>"these bipedal primitives are really stupid"
>kidnaps one to interview them and collect research samples
>its some hermit who lives in the woods
>he is terrified at first but once she assured him that she isn't going to "probe" him and that she just wants to talk and get a blood sample he calms down
>she begins the interview and starts asking him about himself and his species
>they talk for hours, once he got over the whole being abducted by an alien thing he became friendly and excitable and actually seemed to be enjoying the experience
>she gets progressively more confused as the "interview" goes on
>why does she enjoy talking to this primitive so much?
>since the day she was released from her cloning tank, she has never enjoyed talking to anybody
>she founds herself growing fond of the creature, even though she thought herself incapable of being "fond" of anything
>now that she's actually had a chance to talk to someone who wasn't emotionless and detached like her, she realized how lonely she's been her entire life
>returns the hermit back to his rudimentary forest dwelling
>while she intended to wipe his memory and move onto another Human so she could get a broad range of subjects, she instead tells him that she will talk with him again soon, protocols be damned
>is this what having a friend feels like?
