Any ideas to make a steam mill from the 40s seem more expensive than it actually was?

It was demolished in the 50s.

1. The real estate it was built on may have appreciated in value.
2. Consider cultural or historical importance and local protection.
3. Steam mills were usually situated strategically near sources of water with lesser impurities such as fresh water lakes or rivers, and access to better infrastructure (rails and/or roads) to facilitate logistical ease for coal/fuel transport, transfer of raw materials and products, and workforce commute.
