also don't discount childhood dream jobs if you ever had them - they're often decent paths to pursue even if you don't end up getting the job.

wanna be an astronaut that flies the rocket? career path is usually college -> engineering degree -> military -> military pilot -> test pilot -> astronaut. at any point there after the degree you could've had a brilliant career and a great life even if you never made it to the next step.
