Girlfriend needs to have an emergency surgery done on her mouth.

The problem is it costs a lot and she doesn't have any money. I paid off a large chunk of my debt this year and paying for her surgery will would mean all my hard work was for nothing.

I really don't want to.

what should I do?
>>

In the past I did offer to pay for it when it wasn't a big issue but she refused and said she'd work, get the money and pay for it. Now the cost spiraled beyond what she could handle and it's turned into an emergency.
>>
How long have the two of you been together? Have you considered doing it in Mexico?
>>
>>32008227
Why doesn’t she have health insurance

We don't live in the US.

We live in Spain.

>we don’t live in the USA
Then what is the issue? The USA is the only country that doesn’t include health care as a human right. You shouldn’t have any issue with her surgery
>>
>>32008314
The national healthcare system doesn't cover dental care. There is none in Europe that do.
>>
Why can't she do it?
>>
>>32008319
So what do you do if you have an emergency? In Germany it is taken care of
>>
>>32008363
It looks like they may cover it if it's an emergency. We'll have to speak to the doctor.
>>
imagine paying for it then she cheats on you in a few months haha

Well OP, looking at this from a dispassionate point of view and solely for the purpose of advice, I can point out a few things and then lay your choices out for you. Obviously, just ignoring it the way she did probably isn't going to make it better. Its going to make it worse, and that emergency could get worse or more expensive. So 'I really don't want to' isn't really a complete course of action. If you do nothing, there's a very good chance you're just going to get in deeper than you already are.

Your immediate choices are...
>You can separate yourself from the person with the bad decision making, and go find another girlfriend who makes better decisions
>You can take responsibility for the problem, pay for the procedure, take it as a personal lesson to press the issue next time, and move on
>You can try exploring what aid, discounts or payment plans exist in your country for people who need expensive procedures but can't afford them
>You can go to another country where your money will go further
>You can ignore the problem with the full understanding that it will probably get worse down the road. Its not your teeth that got ruined, its technically not your problem excepting insofar as you care about your girlfriend.

So... y'know, take your pick, OP.

honestly when she told me my heart sank and I felt like saying fuck it.

I told her how I felt about the payment and she was moaning for so long about many things that my mind just disappeared. I was even dreaming about the freedom I would have if I just dumped her. I could go to sleep soundly knowing I don't have debt. A year's work of weekly escorts is way cheaper than the surgery. Other than having someone to talk and plan activities with I literally have nothing to lose.

In any case, by the time she was done moaning she didn't even want to talk anymore about it. I tried to bring up the healthcare thing and she shot me down because she was too tired.

I was stoic as fuck throughout the entire thing. I'm not going back to another year of debt man. I just can't. Shit gives me PTSD. I have fucking shell shock now.

Can't say I blame you. In this day and age, being prosperous is not higher wages, more education, or a higher-tier job. All of those things have been ruined and will remain ruined. We're all on subsistence wages now. The way you make sound fiscal decisions is by avoiding debt, unless you're prepared to use debt to finance investment and essentially gamble on a really shaky economy. Having no debt means you're answerable to nobody, and whatever capacity you can sell your labor in is entirely yours. Its real freedom, of a sort.

So, I can't blame you for not wanting to be responsible for someone else's bad decisions, because down that road lies madness. In that case, your decisions are reduced from many down to two.

You can just cut her off, cut your losses, deal with the emotional pain and move on, or you can try and stick it out and explain to this person that, while you're here to support them and you love them, you're not going to go back into debt to deal with someone else's bad decisions, and they need to do the work of figuring out what options they have to get treatment without the money to pay for it. Most western nations have a way that insurance, charity or the state itself can take care of hardship cases. The hospital still gets paid, but you have to file the relevant paperwork and/or talk to the relevant government organization to make sure they know you're categorically in need. Push her to do that, and make it clear that you going into debt is absolutely not an option. If they can't handle that, you go back around to leaving.

Sorry its come to this OP, but making the right decision for yourself isn't something you should ever let someone make you feel guilty for. I hope it goes well for you, whatever you choose to do.

Pay for it. She’ll owe you one, so you can count on her now giving you any grief for a while. Plus, she’s your girl so you want that mouth in peak condition.

>There is none in Europe that do.
People in finland regularly get their teeth fixed, dental surgeries done, paid for by the government.
>>
>>32008227
how good is her sloppy toppy?
>>
>>32011557
I pay, I get schizo about it and she walks within the year. Now what?

I'm on 100% on the losing side here.
>>
if you have not been together too long, it might turn out this way:
>you pay
>she feels grateful at first
>then it becomes a burden, like she had an obligation to give you something back in return
>she will feel miserable and cheat on you
all happened before with other couples
>>
>>32008227
Are you gonna marry her or not? It kinda boils down to that
>>
>>32008227
Don't pay for it. It's on her
