I want to join an ArmA 3 unit so I can play the game the way it was intended to be played.
However, this requires me to use my microphone, talk, befriend people, and socialize with others.
I haven't socialized with anyone online since 2014.
For those who don't know, ArmA 3 units play the game on specific days, e.g. on Sundays, at 8:00-11:00 PM, like that.
I would really feel better mentally if I spent some time gaming with one of these units, but I feel some kind of anxiety about having to socialize with people.

just do it. its ok to be quiet or nervous, especially oyur first time. they will probably be friendly.

Practice trolling on Call of Duty.

at what point do we worry when it becomes apparent the current generation is legitimately too afraid to speak to strangers during a video game session?

Buy Hell let loose and play that. It's in between battlefield and arma. You communicate and coordinate in a small unit on a battlefield. But you won't deal with a set pool of people. It's a stepping stone.
