Is coding a dumpster fire of a career path or is it just this company? >be me>be overworked code monkey working 7AM to 10PM>company has three times as many managers than engineers>make 80k in leafbucks with about 7 years of experience>VP asks me to build an application>application has 100,000 records of data in a database>built it in around 70hrs while working on around 20 other projects during that month. was behind on an ETA on one project by a day and had to provide a detailed reason why the timeline was missed>anon we need you to rewrite the entire code so it doesn't use an SQL database everything has to work on SharePoint instead using frontend JavaScript>gave a strong caveat that this is likely not possible, still pressed for a timeline and a breakdown of tasks during a meeting>give an estimate of 40 hours, mentioned certain features can't be built using purely front end code>felt this was a reasonable estimate, perhaps even an underestimate>VP and director that have sociology degrees: anon why does it take 40 hours why not "use a translator program" to convert it from C# and SQL to JavaScript. I used a tranlsator to convert English to French, can't you just do that?>told me to just use chatgpt>fed the code into chatgpt and it just produced unusable code>I then fed the project specs into chatgpt and it gave a time estimate of 700hours and 3 monthsWhat should I do next? I think I'm working for morons that are making two to three times my salary. Even if I manage to produce the solutions they want where does that get me?
>>32323484Be more assertive. Tell them how it is. Be on the lookout for other jobs. Dont be a pushover. Its not your fault if they give you shitty estimates, but I will be your fault if you accept and fail the deadline.
>>32323484>7AM to 10PMthats ridiculous. Look for another job
Your company is retarded, just like mine. I'm in the turd world but after job hopping, I worked in a company that paid a really good salary ($80,000 yearly) in my region and I didn't need to pay for rent (live with muh parents). What you're describing is a carbon copy of leadership's incompetent skills at building or maintaining a product implied, in my previous company. "I'm working for morons" was the sentiment I had every fucking day there. I won't give you the whole story but I'll tell you I stood my ground and then told them to fuck off, after saving the equivalent of 7 years of living expenses, because I hated my job and I literally was paged 24/7 for a garbage legacy PHP system no other team wanted to maintain, this happened 15 days ago and now I'm just studying and building my own projects because fuck it, I've got nothing to lose now.My advice to you, most companies are going to have the same level of retardation. Either job hop and hope the next company isn't as retarded (unlikely, this is now the norm), or take the entrepreneur or freelance pill and make the biggest gamble yet. No company is worth dying for and you shouldn't be working +40 hours let alone +80 hours, that's not healthy.
>I think I'm working for morons that are making two to three times my salary.no one tell him
>>32323484Part company, part country, part personal skill issue my bastard.
>>32323484It’s just your company. My wonderful software development job doesn’t have any of the terrible features you describe. I would start looking for a new job.
