Hey everyone, I'm at a restaurant now waiting for a friend and some of her friends (I'm a guy) to celebrate her birthday. However, I don't know them well and I'm sure I'll be awkward and unable to carry on a conversation. This has happened before when I was out with some of her friends, and I don't know if it'll be the same people this time. What should I do? Any advice? I even bought her a gift, and I hope I'm the only one.
>>32328833Talk to people about their holiday plans if you don't know what to talk about. If you have trouble carrying a conversation can ask about what they've watched recently. TV, movies netflix whatever
don't cling to the birthday girleasiest icebreaker is "how do you know the host"another is "what is your favorite word for 'african american'"
>>32328833Keep them talking, even if you don't give a shit. Keep asking questions.>I went on holiday.>Ah yeah? Where to? (like a gave a fuck)>Spain. It was very nice there.>What was so nice about it? (Spain fucking sucks, you can't tell me otherwisel>The weather was great, and the beaches were beautiful.>It must've been so cool to sunbathe there! (I hate beaches, no clue why people willingly spend their free time there)
Unapologetically be yourself and stop shitting on yourself if you can. Lots of perfect conversational advice already posted above me. Conversation is like anything: the more you do it the better you get it at it, so don't feel bad if you're awkward now. Plus, awkwardness can be attractive if you're a decent person. Many people find it to be authentic. Don't let the outcome of one conversation determine your identity. Just fucking exist man :)
