Deciding between two University of Maryland campuses, College Park and Baltimore County.

Which one should I apply to? I live in Maryland and plan to major in Physics.

Should I also consider going to the other University System of Maryland schools? Such as Coppin State, Salisbury, Towson, Frostburg, and The Universities at Shady Grove?

Not a huge fan of the umd campuses tbqh. The JH APL in Laurel's neat if you've been there. Personally, I'd go for St. John's in Annapolis but I already have all my tech shit out of the way. More interested in philosophy anyways.

Generally speaking, the school called "University of [state]" is higher ranked than the one called "[state] State University", and the one that doesn't need a city name in its name is better than the one that does.

But UMBC doesn't have a City name in its name, it has a County name.

University of Maryland, Baltimore COUNTY, not Baltimore City.

Pic related is of other University System of Maryland schools.

I hear great things about UMBC, that its super STEM oriented, but doesn't have any social or party life. Is this true?

UMD is much better than UMBC in most aspects. UMBC will probably give you a pretty high scholarship, especially if you have good grades. I think the UMD social life is better, and it's generally better regarded. UMBC is mostly commuter students, so I don't think there's much activity/community on their campus. But, yes, UMBC is specifically good for stem. I don't think that means UMD is bad for stem, although I don't know specifics.

I applied to both of these two and ended up going to a school very far away, and very different from both of them. If you can, consider out of state. I found UMD to be too similar to high school (hell, most of the same people from your HS will probably go there), and I didn't like the College Park area. But between the two, I think you should choose UMD.
