How do I deal with being a fundamentally selfish person? As in, my thought processes usually evaluate things in terms of benefit or detriment tk myself before/if going on to consider other people

Just practice thinking about how your actions affect others, and if placing them before you is the right thing to do in that situation. It's nornal that your first instinct is to think of yourself. Placing importance in yourself is not a weakness, you gotta help yourself before you're able to help anyone else.
