how can I cope with loss? I just had my cat of 15 die, and I don't know what to do, or how to alleviate the pain. It feels like my chest is burning.

I’m really sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is incredibly painful, especially after so many years together. It’s important to allow yourself to grieve and not rush through it. Take time to remember the good moments with your cat, maybe through photos or small rituals in their honor. Talk to someone who understands, or find a support group. Grief can feel overwhelming, but be kind to yourself as you process the pain. With time, the sharpness of the loss will soften, but the love you shared will always remain.

hope for dreams with them
it's all you can do

My condolences :(
It is always hard to loose a loved one. But that's how you know it meant something.

I had to put down my 18 year old girl this summer. She had an aggressive tumor that we had removed, but it came back.

All you can really do is let time pass

Keep in mind you gave your cat a very good number of years being happy, loved, and comfortable. Make sure you keep your photos of them and remember the good times you spent together.

Thanks, it's just hard. I've known her for half of my life, so a part of me was in denial that it would happen, believing that this day would never come, or at least not so soon, she was 2-3 months away from turning 16. it really snuck up on me, last night she just laid down and couldn't get back up, no matter how hard she tried or wailed out, then her breathing slowed and eventually stopped, and then went her heart. I know she lived a nice long life, since her first owner was going to put her down as a kitten, but at least right now when I think of her all I can see is the light fading from her eyes.

So sorry anon. When my dog goes, I will probably take a heck of a long time to get over it too. Just think of it as a mark of final respect that you miss her so much.

I guess so, she was family to me, I mean shit I've known her for half of my life. I feel like there'd be something deeply wrong with me if I DIDN'T miss her so much.
