She was apparently sexually abused by her brother, it's not specified when, but if I were to assume, this all happened in her childhood and so they're probably just trashy people. Everyone involved, parents, family, extended family, friends, etc. If they don't all grow detached in their 30s or 40s, they probably have some very unusual stories to tell and are quite overwhelming because of it. If the story is fabricated then she's BPD as fuck and saying eyebrow raising things to literally test his loyalty and it's not working.
