The thing is I don't know what is good, I am a bland blank person with a horrible taste for slop.
I am am at loss for what to read, listen to or watch improve too improve my taste.

My plan so far is to

Get into class french cooking and try meal prepping
Learn about photography and how to us it to find what is beautiful the

Okay, great, what are you looking for advice on?
>>
>>32623786
To be clear I believe my question is
How do I find good media to learn and build better taste?
>>
>>32623790
What are you consuming currently? If you're reading, even if it's slop, you are already ahead of the average american.
Classics are always good, so I'd recommend you start with those. I like Nabokov, Dickens and Tolstoy.
Also, start learning a new language.
>>
>>32623790
Read some old books. I'm reading Goethe's Faust currently
>>
>>32623790
Have you considered not consuming much media at all?

What ever pops up on youtube so I removed any recommed videos
>even if it's slop, you are already ahead of the average american.
what ever is the new manga on online
>Classics are always good, so I'd recommend you start with those. I like Nabokov, Dickens and Tolstoy.
Thanks, I have heard of them but I could not even tell you a name one of there books
>Also, start learning a new language.
I was thinking of learn German or French

>>32623799
>Read some old books
Sure but I am at a loss for where to start. There are a lot of old books.

>>32623801
>Have you considered not consuming much media at all?
Yes but I don't think that will make me less bland or more well versed.
>>
>>32623820
I'd start with Nabokov, since, in my opinion, he's the easiest of the three to comprehend. Lolita is his most famous work, so I'd start with that.

Surprisingly, /lit/ is a pretty good board for discussion and recommendation of literature. I'd browse there.

Also, forgot to add to my original post: Force yourself to listen to music you wouldn't usually.

Gotta be proactive instead of reactive. It's a hard habit to break as it's easier to react to your "opponent's" moves rather than make your own, but you are headed in the right direction with taking initiative in hobbies and skills, even if it's things you ultimately may not enjoy.
>Music
I recommend classics. Radio stations may be pozzed af, but there's no denying the beauty of music set to raw emotions and scenes. Holst (especially "Mars" and "Jupiter") and Beethoven are great springboards into this while Strauss will make you realize how easy it is to vrasp music. If you can move freely to Strauss, you can do a lot of dancing that's based on 3- and 4-step beats. From there, find the stuff that will keep you active and motivated, even if it's a meme like chiptune or nightcore.
>Reading
Recommend philosophy that deeply explores their desires and goals. From these, you will observe the world through new lenses and find your own philosophy that you can abide by. Suggested authors include Thomas Paine, Thomas More, Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Ayn Rand, Orwell, and Machiavelli (The Prince and The Discourses). Hobbes and Rosseau are okay until you realize that there are a lot of stupid people who barely grasp the concept of implied contractual agreements, let alone civic duty and living in a society.
>Film
Right out front, modern film is garbage. Same with most shonen slop. Ignore the childish shit. "Friendship is Magic" is cool and all, but you seem like the kind looking for the nitty gritty meaning of life kind of jazz. Keeping with the Mongolian Basket Weaving protocol, I, like many others before me, recommend Ergo Proxy, Haibane Renmai, Serial Experiments Lain, Gurren Lagann, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Absolute kino that will have you think and feel deeper than "What if Saitama fought Goku?"

Grasp music*
Did not proofread
>>
>>32624088
>music
I will definitely look into the classic music you recommend it, it sounds like the type to give powerful feels.
>reading
So start with philosophy? That does make sense and I think I have a copy of meditations by Marcus I have never read it so that is a easy place to start.
>film
I have wrote down those name and I will see if I can find them any where.
I did here good thing about the new blade runner but the whole film industry has made apathetic to watching, but my goal is get rid of that apathy so it is all good.

Don't do masterclass stuff, that shit is dumb.

I recommend reading notes from the underground very good book, funny, relatable.
>>
>>32623756
I'd recommend starting with the stoics, and the gospels.
>>
>>32624176
Don't start woth Meditations. As great as stoicism sounds, Meditations is really a collection of musings that will become boring. Some of it's deep but a good chunk of it's "People die when they are killed" tier dumb. Start with Plato's "The Republic as this explores the pros and cons of oligarchy, republics, pure democracy, and hereditary monarchy. This lays the groundwork for a lot of later philosophical thought regarding society, including Aristotle's "Nicomachean Ethics", Hobbes' "Leviathan" and Machiavelli. It's a bit more nuanced to religion and criticisms of polite society, but consider also Moliere's "The Misanthrope", Huxley's "Brave New World" and "Ape and Essence", and William Golding's "The Spire". For Ayn Rand, I recommend "We The Living" before diving into her heavyweights "The Foutainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged". Also for Orwell, don't just read "1984" or "Animal Farm". He had a pretty interesting life and it's criminal that schools only make you read those two. Consider "Homage to Catalonia" and "Burmese Days". Upton Sinclair is another good one with "The Jungle" and "The Moneychangers". Again, these should be read later after you've laid the foundations of basic civilization.
For film, all of these are can be found on kissanime.ru or on The Internet Archive. I recommend the latter as they have a good collection of other educational and entertaining material. I've downloaded multiple classics from "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" to the original b&w "Night of the Living Dead" to "The Northwest Passage" to an external hard drive library. They alao cover interesting history and technology like progression from lighbulb logic gates to semiconductors and how rear differentials work on cars.

Yeah it looks horribles
Shame since it is meant for learning from the best.
>>32624248
I will definitely look into those!
>>32624705
That is all great!
Do you have any recommendations for find good learning materials for subject like cooking, photography, and design?
Just a good place to find them would be great!
