Why do artists get angry when I make a profit out of traced artworks?
Like, I mostly just trace the pose and yes sometimes even the body countour, but I do the rest (which is 80% of the work btw) myself.
Like, some people get seriously mad about this.
However, if the customer is happy with their purchase, who fucking cares, right? Who cares about those crying butthurt artists and their "integrity"? Are they just envious? How do I deal with this? I don't even copy everything 1 to 1 lol.
I'm asking here and not on /ic/ because the people there are seemingly irrational and toxic.
Thank you.

>How do I deal with this?
If you choose to keep doing it you seem to be dealing with it just fine.
>>
>>32623804
Heh. Okay then. It's not like those whiny cunts are my customers anyway. Plus, I also am practicing to become better. I honestly don't see the problem
>>

>I'm asking here and not on /ic/ because the people there are seemingly irrational and toxic.
you're asking here because you know it's wrong and /ic/ would rip you apart for it
sorry chud

How am I wrong?

In an artist's eyes, tracing means you're not that skilled, and they may take that as an opportunity to take a jab at you.

In my eyes, tracing is like using a walking cane. If I take it from you, you can't do shit. If you use it as a means to improve, I don't think it's that bad. Everyone starts by tracing something they like at some point

Using references is fine, just don't get caught stealing others ideas, or be prepared to have shit thrown at you in the communities as you make a name for yourself.
>>
trace the good parts of aislop for plausible integrity

>If you use it as a means to improve, I don't think it's that bad. Everyone starts by tracing something they like at some point
Yeah, the issue though is that OP is selling his tracings. No artist would be caught dead doing that.
>>
>>32623895
With enough time and fame, everyone gets fervent haters who will be on their neck, so he's hanging a rope on himself in the long run

Twitter artists have massive over inflated egos for people who draw subpar gay furry art and other feitshy fruity shit. They are not people you should care about.

You are correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, hahah. I should be more worried about not getting sued by the IP holders instead.
>>
>>32623792
Tracing? Why not just straight up steal artworks of unsuspecting sheltered artists and sell them as posters or on mugs lmao
>>
>I honestly don't see the problem
the problem would be your profiting off someone else's hard work
but this is bait or you're the kind of retard who would never understand anyway

This is probably THE template of how conversations between CEOs and their shareholders go whenever they're caught doing something illegal and get uppity about it. Of course you'd ask away from them somewhere unrelated, if you truly believed you did nothing wrong you'd ask in other art circles.
>>
>>32623792
artists are dweebs, anon.
case in point - they sued to stop player pianos from being a thing because they thought that it would devastate the piano-playing industry. as history clearly points out, it didn't do that at all.

we're seeing it now with AI. pro-tip: in 20 years, no one is going to care about AI "stealing jobs" or some other claim.

Read this:

>>
>>32625167
borges didn't plagiarize don quixote he recontextualized some chapters in an original story to explore the ideality of literature you buffoon
>>
>>32625715
No, that isn't at all what he did. Read the story.

Borges wrote a story about a man who duplicated Don Quixote word for word and asked whether the simple fact that another person had written it down made it a different work. He was raising the same question about what constitutes originality as OP, and I thought that OP - or anyone reading him - might find that interesting.

>Boohoo, this seller stole my pose and is making a profit and a living off of it!!
C'mon man, you can't trademark and copyright your poses haha, ridiculous, right?
>If you aspire for Greatness you WILL be tested.
Remember this, anons.
>>
>>32628471
If imitating others is what you consider “Greatness” you are doomed.
>>
>>32628513
Holy kek
Tell me one single great thing that wasn't based off of others ideas, I dare you
>>
Because the value of the artists work is based more on skill than time, so the valuable elements of the work are the design works.

If you bound a book by hand, and printed someone else's text into it, what percentage of their work would you have stolen?

The trace is also the character, the charterer design, their living.
The colouring is something they usually pay someone like you do do afterwards, it's considered low skill work.
>>
>>32628628
You cant recognize the difference between imitation and inspiration. You are cooked.
>>
>>32628755
Inspiration is in fact imitation to an extent
>>
>>32628743
>what percentage of their work would you have stolen?
Depends what's written in it, what's your point? That the cover isn't enough? You'd be surprised what people will buy just because it looks shiny
Besides, who says I won't increase my skills over time?
>>
>>32628780
And yet they are different words because they are different things with different implications
>>
>>32628811
And great things were based off previous ideas, glad we came to a conclusion
>>
>>32623792

>>
>>32628855
Not a single great thing was based on the tracing of another, retard. You can pretend imitation is the same as inspiration, that doesn’t make it true.
>>
If you don't care about what other people think, and you're going to disregard everyone who disagrees with you, why even make this post? I think the reason you posted at all is because you just want people to tell you what you want to hear and not the truth. The fact that you didn't ask this on /ic/ only supports this.

Discussing any of this with op is a massive waste of time. He's not asking for actual advice, he's just looking for a hugbox. You're better off talking to a sheet of drywall.
