I am planning on either learning French or Latin. What would be the best method of learning a language? (Especially if I want achieve fluency)Apps probably are not the way to go.And moving to a region would not work.
>>34491291Par pitié laisse nous en paix on en peut plus des negres comme toi qui viennent pomper nos aides sociales et crient au racisme tout le temps reste dans ton trou a merde et meur d'une maladie sexuellement transmissible
>>34491291>(especially if I want to achieve fluency)*>Apps probably are not the way to go.Why not? I used apps to learn English, Spanish, Italian, French... I also tried learning other languages but I gave up because it's useless. You can just learn the basics through an app like Busuu, Duolingo and so on and use Discord to practice.
Also, sorry for the humble brag. There's other stuff you can do, like shadowing, but the core of language learning is this. Learn the basics, and practice it.
the best way is to move to the country you want to speak to and enroll in a language school there. the second best way is to find some sort of guide online to learn essential grammar and vocabulary and then start consuming material of the appropriate level. any new vocabulary you encounter you use chatgpt to find the meaning and then make a flashcard of it. talk to native speakers as much as you can. there are several discords you can join to practice convos
Then consume a lot of content. I am typing in bits cause I am fighting a roach. A French roach at that.
>>34491526>the best way is to move to the countryShut the fuck up, you didn't even read the thread. >>34491291>And moving to a region would not work.
>>34491432You're funny.>>34491458It is limited.>>34491522kek>>34491536Thank you.
>>34491536you also casually ignored the rest of my comment. i am a polyglot. i dont need to prove that what i said works because i know it does. language learning is not a video game. you need to study it like you would any other skill
>>34491291stick with the thing daily.the 'lomol' android app i found most useful (esperanto, spanish)you want to get a/the oxford 'mini' dictionary the one that fits in the palm of your hand, not the overly comprehensive ordinary one its useless, for beginning,. not an overly concise/compact one either. maybe even also go through an english one>>>/int/they have a language learning thread-what im doing is just writing down the word in an exercize book and then google translating it. the first book is just mind washing with words. subsequent ones tighten the vocabulary. my advice to myself is 5 minutes of revision of those books everyday it makes it stick. -it might be interesting to get a latin oxford 'pocket' dictionary just for etymology's sake its a different size to the mini one i have the oxford pocket greek and latin. -I am getting into wikipedia linguistic/ grammatical specifications now, if only i had this at the start and before it. there's ONLY two parts to lang learning, Vocab and Grammar, if you can precisely diagnose the part and tense and all that nitty gritty it can be so much easier and quicker, for instance if you can specify the grammatical reasons for things in english, and attack from a position of comprehension it can be so much less painful.-I got the 'world radio' app its handy for there's plenty of french-sounding already in english starting at vouge gauche genre timbre suave delettante etc i remember listing 100+
>>34491291I guess the way to go is to just learn the basics and practice, like >>34491522 said. Understand the fundamentals of the language, and then consume stuff on that language, like songs, movies, comics, etc.For example, you can try watching a movie in that language, first with subtitles on (on the same language you'r trying to learn) to help you out a bit, and then without it. You can then listen to songs and try to understand the lyrics, listen to conversations between native people of that tongue, etc.
>>34491545I'm not kidding we really don't want you
>>34491291Practice every day. any method that works for you. consistency is the core strategy, the rest is just a matter of preference
>>34491291I've been on this website since 2019, and I still can't chat with other people in english without using google translate, although I can read and listen perfectly fine
>>34491291>I am planning on either learning French or Latin. Why Latin? The best way to learn is immersion. Start by doing the thing of listening to phrases and repeating them as you listen. And you need to do a lot of that - hours a day. Then you just to really bury yourself in it. Be around people speaking the language as much as possible, watch TV and movies in the language (with same-language subtitles to begin with, e.g. a French movie with French subtitles).

>>34491580>you also casually ignored the rest of my comment.>you need to study it like you would any other skillI didn't ignore it. The core of apps like Busuu is exactly that: to teach essential grammar and core verbs. By hopping on Discord, you can simulate the environment you would be living in. You went to other countries and paid for a teacher when you could have done all of this for free, and when OP said that these options were out of question.>i know it doesI didn't say it doesn't, but do you really think that expending loads of money and travelling is the most efficient way to do it when you can do it for free in a few months from the comfort of your home? Again, OP also said that travelling is not an option.>i am a polyglotNo shit, Sherlock, you seem to think you're special when everyone in this thread seem to be also polyglots since the question OP made was aimed at us...
if you're undecided between french and latin then figure out which one you feel the most motivated to learn, motivation is the most important part of learning a language. you need to be consistent and really want to keep doing it even when it's difficult or boring. the best way is to enroll in a language class or get a tutor. if you want to do it as an autodidact then yeah don't bother with the apps, there's plenty of good resources for either language:i've recently started learning latin as well; this article has several good methods: https://foundinantiquity.com/2023/03/11/latin-autodidacts-youre-working-way-too-hard-how-to-learn-latin-by-yourself-in-2023/i'm currently doing the "barebones øberg", i invested in four books:>lingua latina per se illustrata: familia romana>lingua latina per se illustrata: grammatica latina >lingua latina: a companion to familia romana>lingua latina: teacher's materialsi feel like this method is pretty effective so far and i have fun with it.there's also an app for latin called legentibus, i haven't used it but it seems useful if you want to do the lingua latina method with more structure + it lets you listen to how stuff is pronouncedi was also considering doing french and did for a bit but decided to stop because i didn't have sufficient motivation but i did find the methods i used effective: >tv5mondesimple free courses where you watch french video clips and figure out the meaning by answering questions about them, it's a good way to do it but you should definitely immerse yourself in the language in addition>pimsleurstraight-forward 30 minute sessions where you listen to people speaking and repeat what they say. really effective for learning listening comprehension and pronunciation and easy to follow, but costs money>lawlessfrenchuseful resource to learn grammar and vocab but you probably want to use it in addition to something more structured
>>34491291Learn the grammar and basic vocabulary through any textbook and then start exposing yourself to the language lnline to expand your vocabulary.
>>34492580read my comment again you stupid nigger. you clearly didnt read shit
>>34491291if you wanna learn latin check out /clg/ on lit board
>>34491291Personally, I do it the old fashioned way of learning to read first, then listenI try to read something, and then if I don't understand it, I find out what word(s) I didn't know, and ask for a new sentence with each
