You team Opossum or team Raccoon?
>>
Opossum
they're less pesky and eat ticks
also marsupials are just cool
>>
>>4771965
Opossum, placental supremacy is exploitative and shouldn't be encouraged.
>>
>>4771965
Opposed cause ticks are fucking cancer but Racoons are cool
>>
>le possums eat ticks
stop spreading this nonsense
>>
>>4771968
>>4772215
They don't.
>>
Opossums don't eat ticks except in a controlled laboratory setting where there's nothing else to eat. Wild ones don't eat ticks.

It's like the infamous cat piss experiment. lab rats did not enter areas with cat piss. However, wild rats do, and instead of fucking off they alter their scavenging behavior only if they smell cat piss plus one other predator. if it's only cat piss they only change their paths to stay out of sight, but don't alter their scavenging behavior, and under no circumstance do they just leave, other than being killed. Regardless a buch of "studies show" midwits latched on to it immediately and there was a failed ratting cat revival attempt, which seemed to work because the rats altered their paths to stay out of sight. Then people noticed the rats were still there, they put the cats back in, and cat tree sales skyrocketed.

Does anyone know how the ecology of that trio works when they’re out in the wilderness without trash to eat? It just seems like their niches overlap too much to coexist with a limited food supply.
>>
>>4772239
Iirc, that particular experiment wasn’t about opossums seeking out ticks, it was about comparing the grooming behaviors of different animals. Opossums noticed most of the ticks crawling on them and ate them. The squirrels in the same experiment didn’t care about being covered in ticks and barely bothered trying to remove the ones on them.

So, all research is a hoax? What am I supposed to do to educate myself?
>>
>>4773296
I've seen videos of opossums choke slamming skunks, so I'd imagine they don't really get along under normal circumstances
>>
>>4773296
This is pure uneducated guesswork but I figure raccoons are superior scavengers, skunks are able to repel predators, and possums have pig sized litters. So in a period of food scarcity and few threats the coon will prosper, but when food becomes abundant the possums have a higher potential maximum rate of population growth, and when the increase in scavengers is followed by an increase in their predators skunks will be less affected.

opossum killing a skunk pretty quickly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZCAKziJjGc

i like both but opossum is more charming
>>
>>4773613
ive seen like 10 videos of opossums fucking up skunks but everything on the internet says skunks kill opossums
>>
I've hated raccoons since I caught one digging up fresh graves in a pet cemetery. Clearly they weren't deep enough but have some fucking respect.
>>
>>4773632
Hey man, it's dead matter, either way it gets returned to life, be it either subterranean decomposers, or surface dwelling scavengers.
>>
>>4773085
Imagine what that could look like..

>>4773321
>So, all research is a hoax?
Shit like >>4772239 is just another extension of culture war brain rot. The right wing, especially the religious sorts, don't like the fact that scientists generally disagree with them and they really don't like the fact that those scientists regularly publish work showing that their personal beliefs are factually incorrect.

The current response to this sort of thing is to declare that scientific research is false and misleading and there's no way to definitively know anything. They love this because their entire worldview is faith-based. Unfortunately, they're also retarded so anyone with a brain will instantly recognize their bullshit disingenuous pilpul tactics, as >>4773304 did.

that’s a lot of heavy duty conjecture and tenuous links to pull out your ass
>>
>>4771965
Coons are demons I shoot them
>>
>>4773632
They’re crumby animals in general, I get they look ‘cute’ but most people I’ve met have had negative experiences with them
>>4774158
As do many others

>>4774117
>>4774156
It's literally a shill
>>
>>4773632
they’re just animals trying to survive, you autist.

This is what happens to the third party.
>>
>>4776157
I didn't know possums were so based. Just shows how badly we need to illegally import them to Europe.
>>
>>4773613
It's because skunks are ambush predators. They need to take time aim. This is like an archer being confronted with a swordsman. Of course the one adapted to close range combat will win.
>>
>>4773613
That's a very young skunk.

you are actually pathetic
