Crow means in the genus Corvus which does not include Jackdaws. Jackdaws are corvids but they are not crows.A raven is a crow, a rook is a crow, a jackdaw is not a crow, a jay is not a crow. They are all corvids.However jackdaws were only removed from the genus Corvus pretty recently.
