This is Yuki. She was born in June 2019. She suddenly passed away today. I found her panting and struggling to breathe and only had about 15 seconds before she ceased breathing completely and went completely limp. I drove like an insane person and got her to the vet in about 5 minutes, but they weren't able to resuscitate her. Nothing was blocking her airway, and I wouldn't be able to get an autopsy until Monday, which would have likely been completely invalid given the time between her death time and then. She was incredibly sweet and she made friends with everyone she met. I have never had a cat as gentle and relaxed as she was. I wish I could have done something to save her. I'm sorry I failed you my Yukihime. You deserved better than me.

Really sorry to hear that anon.
Sounds like cardial arrhythmia, a feline equivalent to a heart attack. It's often genetic, and can only really be detected with an ultrasound over the heart. Not even a stethoscope can be enough to tell if the heartbeat is irregular. If it helps, it's not too bad of a way to go; fast, pretty painless. There isn't anything you can do once it happens either. Sorry for your loss, she sounds like she was a very sweet cat.

Hey man, speaking as someone who had virtually the exact same thing happen to me, I know it’s hard. Mine was also extremely friendly, relaxed and probably the sweetest cat I ever owned, definitely my favorite of the litter of 4 he was born in. The worst part is that I also wasn’t able to get an autopsy because I’d have to send the body to a lab overseas and there wasn’t even a guarantee that they could figure out what happened and I also wouldn’t get the body back. Looking back on it, I wish I had tried to do more instead of just standing/sitting there for hours, maybe some chest pumps to try to resuscitate him back to life or something, but I know it’s wishful thinking and whatever it was was likely completely out of my control. Don’t beat yourself up over it, all we can do now is remember the time we had with them

I took in a stray a little over a year ago, he's friendly and loves pets and playing, but he's not cuddly and only sleeps by himself. I'd like it if he'd sleep on my bed with me some day.

What does it mean if my cat overgrooms the end of her tail? it's always wet, she keeps licking it

>Balcony Kittens.
I want to get some kittens and keep them on my balcony. They can earn their freedom to explore the world when they can figure out how to jump off the roof. It is easy for an adult cat to do, so I thin this is a good plan. All they have to do is grow up and get the courage.
>>
>>4777606
Something on her tail is irritating her, to the cat brain itchy=lick. It's not really overgrooming unless it's to the point that she's creating bald spots from licking the fur off, though.

If you can part the fur on her tail to look at her skin you might be able to see something on her skin if something's wrong.

Lost one of my cats today, passed away from diabetes and possibly lymphoma. He was living with my mom, we knew he was sick but we thought we could manage it. When I heard that he was in the hospital I rushed over but by the time I got there, he was already gone. I didn't get to say goodbye.

RIP Toby, I love you.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post about my outdoor cat Toby, he's the one in the left.

He is a stray who has been living on my porch for over 10 years. We have to euthanize him today because he has fluid in his belly and has stopped eating and can't live comfortably anymore. The black Kitty beside him is Poe who is 10 years old and has been living with Toby on the porch his whole life, although he is mostly feral. I don't think Poe has ever gone more than a couple days without seeing Toby. I just took this picture about 20 minutes ago. I brought Toby on to the porch so Poe could see him one last time. Toby is the most gentle lovable big kitty, he just loves to be petted by anyone and him and Poe would sleep in the same bed and he would wash poes head.

He is a very blessed boy. He had a fully heated box and he got to live with Poe and got canned food every day and people would always stop to pet him.

Toby is like Poes older brother and pretty much raised him from only a couple months old if that and showed him how to hunt and even showed him how to eat canned food and taught him to be semi comfortable around us.

I just wanted someone to know he was a good boy.

My cat has developed a swelling on one half of her face, I just noticed it last night and it's still there this morning, I figure a sudden swelling like this is probably an allergic reaction to something (I recently did some thorough cleaning of our bathroom) how long would an allergic reaction take to go down now that the cleaning is done and she shouldn't come into contact with any of the chemicals?

Hopefully this shot captures the difference between the two sides of her face, if I'm being foolish please let me know and I'll get her to a vet today.

>>4778964
That's literally it desu, get one of these, and when the cat is chill or sleepy grab his paw, press gently on it to make the claw come out and clip the tip. Maybe get him used to touching his paws before that. Be careful not to clip past the inner pink part. I've tried to put mine in a towel but he just gets angry and then it's virtually impossible so really the best is just doing it at a good time and maybe only doing a few at a time until he gets too annoyed.

>>
>>4778943

If it was an allergic reaction it would be her entire face, not just half. Immediately suspect a dental problem, such as a tooth starting to go bad. Or maybe she got stung by something. Take a good look inside her ears for any signs of obvious infection or bug bites/stings. Is she sensitive to getting her cheeks rubbed? Especially along her gums, near her eyes, the hinge of her jaw below the ears. Cats tolerate a lot of pain and sometimes just act a bit annoyed when a human would be crying or screaming. If she stops you or complains she's probably experiencing pain rather than mild discomfort.

Vet visit is the safe bet to make certain you don't miss something. Watch her very, very closely.

Rest in peace Toby. My last cat went through a similar thing when I lost her. It was like her body shut down one day and she lost control of her ability to regulate fluids. He looks a lot like my cat Mocha.
>>4779322
Use plastic cable covers and sleek socket extension cords. I found both at the thrift store awhile back and they worked really well for my old cat. Your kittens are probably teething so be sure to give them plenty of toys to chew on as well.
>>4779388
Not really. The same applies to breeder cats. It really comes down to how they were socialized when they were young and how their past owners treated them. Mama cats and siblings teach them not to be too aggressive when they play. If they're separated too early and/or are subjected to poor conditions, they can end up with bad habits.
I've owned both pedigree and shelter cats and I've had zero problems. If you're open to the idea, getting an older cat might be a good option (especially if they're a bonded pair). They tend to be calmer and lower maintenance than younger ones. Kittens kinda go crazy when they're left alone. Single kitten syndrome is a very real thing.
Another downside of owning pedigree cats is the potential for genetic diseases. I had a Siberian cat that died of a genetic disease and it was very sad.

A Cat Temple: Soothing the Mind and Soul
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/shows/4026190/
Broadcast on February 20, 2023 / Available until February 21, 2025

30 minutes of unbearable Japanese cat cuteness. It will get taken down from the website, so extract & save the video if you like it and want to have it/share it later on. You can use the little tools/gears icon at the lower right corner to increase the quality of the vid resolution since the default "auto" is pretty ass quality.

Now I want to found a cat temple in the U.S. and use it as a base for a national feline rescue organization.

Please feel free to resume your normal lives now. That is all.
>>
>>4779322
>put another wire out
Don't do that. It teaches them to find & chew on wires. There are some products sold for human babies that are very, very bitter to stop them from sucking their thumbs and licking/chewing on things that are bad for them. Find some and rub it on your exposed wiring.

You can find things like natural sisal rope (or other natural fibers such as hemp rope, etc.). Boil it in water for a few minutes, let it soak until cool. Rinse it, then repeat once more to get all the preservatives & other chemicals out. Then steep a pot of strong catnip tea (don't boil it), and let the rope segments soak in that for a day or so. then tie a few pieces into knots & creative shapes (that they can't hang themselves with) and you have a set of snake-like cat toys that will last a lifetime. Every year or two you can refresh them with a new soaking in a new batch of catnip tea.

Also, old 100% cotton T-shirts can be cut in to strips about 18"-30" long and about 2" wide. They will naturally curl into a rope-like roll. Several of my cats absolutely love these. They're light & soft and snake-ey. You can also treat them by boiling clean and soaking in catnip tea like the rope. Leave some stuff un-knotted, and don't get too elaborate with the knots, just a couple simple ones for added texture.

Natural wine corks can also be boiled clean & soaked in catnip tea. Fantastic fun to bat all over the place and bite on. You'll find them under furniture and weird places for years. Like ping pong balls.

Thank you, anon. You're a good anon.

I ran over a nest of bunnies once with one of those big industrial Hustler lawn mowers. It was a pure accident, they were hidden too well in the grass for me to see them while cutting a several acre field. Almost 20 years ago and the memory still traumatizes me. Sometimes horrible accidents happen. Learn and avoid similar mistakes as best you can into the future. Being a better and more careful human is the best thing you can do to honor their memory.

God. Fucking help me.
I let my cat in after he's been out all night (its a routIne) and the shithead fucker sprayed against the wall. I've tried everything from calming feline scents, using a spray that gets rid of the previous lingering pheremones where he sprayed, etc.
I feel like I'm at my wit's end. Is it because his brother is dead? Is that it? He's still distressed and is acting out because of it? :(

how long does it take for female kittens to have babies?, recently I adopted 2 sisters that are around 6 months old and are now going out and staring at male cats, I saw one of them rubbing her add against my dogs snout

I just came home and found a chewed up plastic bag covered in vomit. Looks like they ate it an threw it back out.I don't know which of my two cats did it, though I have my suspicions. They both seem to be acting normal. Vet doesn't open for another two hours.

Vet thinks it's an abcess, there was some bloody discharge when she checked her mouth, got sent home with some anti-biotics and anti inflamatories and I'll be headed back on Monday to get the bad tooth extracted

You were right, it's going to be pricey, but hey ho. Not like I have much use for the money

I adopted a 7 year old male cat 3 weeks ago who is youthful with lots of energy. he's not as cuddly as I hoped for but he's adorable and chill for the most part outside of meowing a lot in the morning even after getting fed

last night, I woke up in the middle of the night with the dude mounted over my right arm doing a humping motion and light biting to hold my arm still, pic mfw. why did he do this? am I giving him too much attention so he thinks I'm his bitch or something?

Yep. Six months is entirely possible. Get them spayed immediately. Usually it's a little longer, like 8 or 10 months. However, with good health and good food their fertility can kick in a bit on the early side.

Question your vet carefully about how certain this diagnosis is and the need for a tooth extraction. Cats have pretty fragile jaw/dental structures, so it's a serious decision. It is probably necessary, but talk carefully with your vet to make sure this is the necessary and best route. It's a tough call because your kitty can die from an abscessed tooth. At the same time, get clear and detailed instructions from your vet on caring for your kitty going into the future with a missing tooth. She can be susceptible to more tooth problems, meaning you need a path forward to ensure she doesn't lose more teeth. That's a Bad Thing, and moreso for cats than many other animals. Dedicate some research time so you read up on professional advice and care. 4chan kot threads are great for basics and a place to start, but you're leaving territory where you can get the best advice for this problem.
>>
>>4779901
House cats can do perfectly well without teeth since they can easily swallow food whole (min has barely any left in his old age). I'd think it's more of an issue if they're outdoors and have to catch prey themselves.

So I wanted to ask you guys cause maybe you've been through this.
My cat a couple of weeks ago got bloated, not in pain just physically bloated.
Took her into the vet and they drained and tested the fluid, nothing cancerous was found and no sign of heart failure.
They didnt have the test kits for ProBNP to really confirm heart issue so ill be doing that this friday.
She had fleas for a while even with multiple treatments (the vets missed it twice) for a while so that was my guess.

What non cancer/heart failure shit could cause this.
She is in no pain, is herself just fine but anemic.
I already spent 1700 dollars and I'll spend another 1700 but anyone got any ideas?
Yes shes a senior cat and I am very much in denial.
>>
>>4779901
They'll be doing a thorough examination and xray on the day to confirm their suspicion. Thanks for the pep-talk though, I'll be attentive.

>My cat a couple of weeks ago got bloated, not in pain just physically bloated.
>Took her into the vet and they drained and tested the fluid, nothing cancerous was found and no sign of heart failure.
This isn't really a lot to go on. There is no description of what "bloated" looked like, for example. What fluid? From where? How much?

Before you go into a long description, it won't help much here and especially with me. I'm just an amateur who likes cats & has some years experience with them. This is a condition that requires educated & experienced professionals. But, if you want to investigate options & possibilities, keep in mind that general talk like this doesn't help someone else who can't see & examine & interact with your cat. Not very much, anyway, which leads to frustrating & inaccurate 20 (or 40) Questions games where important shit can still be missed.

Make sure you have a good & professional vet, trust them. If you run across something you think is interesting, have a conversation with your vet. On that note, I had a feral that I took care of some years ago who looked constantly like she was pregnant, even though she was only about 10 to 16 months when I was taking care of her. I finally trapped her for a spay & release program, and the vet euthanized her on the operating table. The reason was that once he saw her kidneys he saw they were very underdeveloped and diseased. Probably she lapped up some antifreeze when she was really young and it wasn't enough to kill her right away but it devastated her kidneys. She looked pregnant because she was drowning slowly in her own abdominal fluid.

Have a conversation with your vet about the possibility she's experiencing kidney disease of some sort. There are a lot of things, especially in older cats, that can go wrong and diabetes & kidney failure are among them. If that's the case, there are probably treatments that will help her live a mostly normal end of life if it's caught soon enough.

He looks pretty young, and a little bit overweight. If you're still feeding him any kitten food or treats, stop. They are high calorie and he no longer needs them. Otherwise, cut his food back slightly. Watch how much he eats every day and don't let him feed at an unlimited snack bar. If he isn't getting enough play time, try to increase it. If he's an only cat, he will tend to eat out of boredom if he doesn't have enough play & stimulation in his life. Find creative ways to engage his curiosity & activity every day, especially something to do if/when he's left alone in the house. Leave weird shit around the house for him to discover & investigate, especially things that are interactive &/or have new smells on them. Take him outside occasionally if that's possible in your circumstances.

He doesn't look like he's in any danger, but you don't want him to gain more weight. Where he is should be pretty healthy, but that doesn't mean his eating habits will remain the same for his entire life. Give him varieties of food and lots of affection. If he doesn't have a playmate, consider finding one who's a good match for his age & personality.

Oh, yeah. Sometimes people forget that access to lots of fresh water is critical. Make certain you change his water dish completely twice a day with fresh water. If your tap water is heavily chlorinated, keep a clean pitcher out overnight so most of the chlorine evaporates out. You can drop an ice cube into the dish to help keep it cool & fresh. He should drink about a pint a day in a low heat, low activity environment. Cats often use their water dish to rinse extra food out of their mouths, so also good to keep it changed for that reason & to encourage better dental health.

There are much longer term health problems than just being able to eat soft food a month or six later. Yes, a cat *CAN* do well after losing a couple teeth, but there are significant other problems that have to be watched for years into the future.

Mine was neutered and occasionally does that to my female cat. He hasn't done it in about three weeks so I assume he's learning not to do that. The previous owner told me that he didn't neutered until he was about one year old.
If your cat got neutered at an older age and had gone through puberty to some extent, it's normal for those habits to stick around. Don't give him attention when he does it. But don't punish him either.
It's also normal to your cat to have small ball orbs in place of his sack after he's been neutered. Here is a picture of my cat's ball orbs for reference.
>>
Might be a dumb and stupid sounding question but when my cat wants to play and I feel absolutely like shit, how bad am I hurting him by not playing? I feel awful just ignoring him but it's been rough lately and I can't play as much as he wants. He has a brother to play with but he's currently a bit sick and sleeping more than usual.
>>
>>4780460
Can you set up bird videos for him to watch? I doubt it hurts his feelings much but videos should keep him entertained to some extent.
>>
>>4780465
He goes a bit crazy with them and I think it frustrates him more than anything. He'll just start furiously scratching the device and whine. He decided to go back to sleep for now, I'll try my best to play with him soon. I think his brother got ear mites when he accidentally got outside cause he was itching his ear a lot, and now I think he's scratched it really bad and it could be infected. I gotta get him to the vet soon.

I've had a few indoor/outdoor cats & taken care of a number of ferals. When they hunt to eat, they can eat pretty much the entire animal. You'll find the feet (or, sometimes most of them) and the ears, tail, gall bladder and usually intestines ... and the entire pelt. Experienced hunters are able to skin their game, and their rough tongues are designed to scrape all the meat & fat & such off the hide. Never found a bunny's skull/head ... cats eat all the bones in small animals, even the teeth.

An inexperienced cat *might* eat some or most of the pelt/fur ..? I've never seen that. Usually the pelt is nearby, sometimes it will get dragged away as a toy or by another animal.

I do recall a friend whose cat ate all her babies (probably due to the stress of moving houses just as she gave birth). The only thing left were some of their feet ... but, those were kittens only a few days old. She probably ate them mostly whole, and that's very little fur. A grown bunny has a lot of fur & hide for a cat to consume. Not saying it's not possible, just really weird and unusual if it did happen. Cats do eat mice & rats more or less whole, including fur, so ...

He lives with his brother. They have two dishes but they don't seem to care which is which. Restricting one's food intake will restrict the other's, and his brother's weight is perfectly fine.

Maybe it's fine since the brother is much less food motivated.

Clear fluid in her abdomen, visibly not in her chest but also detected there.
they took out 2lbs of fluid when they drained her, she hasn't fully bloated back up but shes still accumulating fluid.

Since they initially expected heart failure or cancer and testing the fluid showed neither I was curious to see if anyone here had been in the same situation.

I trust the vet and they are good but shits just weird.

>sure it wasn’t some kind of condition or disease
Very certain not. She had one litter about two years earlier without any issues. Her people literally moved from a house she lived in for about four years into a new house about 48 hours after she had her second litter. Almost every rule possible was violated, with her & her kittens getting handled and moved a lot, totally new & strange house, several dozen strange people making huge amounts of noise, she was put into a location not of her choosing, strange kids she had never met handled her kittens ... the list goes on. It was pretty horrible.

It's not that unusual for animals to eat their young under various circumstances, and these were fairly extreme. After the fact, her people realized just how many mistakes were made. They were very focused on human problems and a time schedule to move between houses more than 100 miles apart and didn't really think about or plan around a new mom having her kittens just as that happened. She was spayed shortly after that, and lived for many years that I know of, so there was never additional data or experiences later to compare, but she was a sweet and loved member of their family. Freaked everyone out when it happened.

I share it here so folks can increase their awareness a bit. A mom cat will look for and find the best place that she can before giving birth, and she will (almost always) move her litter a couple times as she searches for the "perfect" safe place. Humans can't be trusted with such a grave responsibility, so locking her in a room in a completely strange place is one of the worst things that can be done. If it's necessary, it has to be done with great care and careful observation so the mom realizes her humans are helping her and caring for her entire family.

An update. My other cat Aki is more sensitive than Yuki was, and also far more attached to me, to the point where she does not want to be away from me. This was mitigated somewhat when Yuki was here, as she at least had another cat to be with when I was at work, but now she's alone. I start work next Monday, so even though it's very rushed, I went and got another kitten. I don't have a name for her yet, and if it doesn't work out with Aki I will return her, but she is very sweet, as Maine Coons are.

Aki, predictably, is not handling it the best. She spent the entire first day downstairs, hiding from the kitten in the upstairs room. Today I was able to get her to eat some treats near the door, but Aki is Aki, and she's a very fussy cat. I feel very guilty leaving a kitten alone in a room for so much of the day, but at least she has food, water, toys, places to sleep, and a litter box. I try to visit her often, but her cries when I leave are heartbreaking. I'm trying to do right by the both of them, and the only reason I'm rushing this is because I worry what Aki will do if she is completely alone. I can't lose both of them.
>>
>>4781357
That was pretty impulsive and rushed, but I also get your circumstances. Try to handle the kitten a lot, then try to handle Aki a lot. Get the new kitten's scent normalized & associated with you. Aki will require a lot of reassurance from you that you're still her best buddy, so give her as much attention as you can. Kittens have a ton of energy that can freak an older cat out, especially under circumstances like this. Being only about 5 years old, Aki should still have a lot of playfulness in her, so try to encourage that as much as possible.

Get them eating together in the same space as soon as possible, regular and specific feeding times. They may have to be 15 feet apart at first, but gradually close the distance, don't let the kitten steal Aki's food, put leftovers away for later. Them both being hungry and in the same space while you fix their food ... and monitor them while they are eating ... will force the issue a bit. Hunger and attention in each others' presence can help, but be careful that it doesn't become more stress. The goal here is to try to play with them in the same room together, even if they don't play with each other at first. This is a journey, not a destination.

Seek ways to reduce stress for Aki. Her world just came apart and you need to find ways to help her adapt and become comfortable with the new one.

This is Ruby
She's been my cat for 6 years, I've picked her up randomly from some lady at the local flea market who was giving her for free. She was in a really bad state but I've nursed her back to health.
She's incredibly intelligent and closer to dog when it comes to how attached she is to me, always waiting me outside when I return from work, sleeping besides me for days when I'm sick. Talkative, likes people, when she plays she never uses her claws.
I need to euthanize her today because of leukemia I didnt even now she has, but it just sprung up last week aggressively and it's actively killing her.

Sorry for the blogpost bros, she is in my lap right now, numb, almost unresponsive, I cant describe how hard this all feels. My biggest regret is that she livid in an (spacious) apartment for 4 and a half years, but the moment I moved where she could roam and play she got really sick.

Despite not coming inside anymore or letting my mom pick her up these last two years, she could always be found sunning or cleaning herself in one of the backyards when she wasn’t roaming the area and still let us pet her or rub up against us. We tried to make her an indoor only cat a few years ago but we knew she’d be miserable the rest of her life since she was born and lived feral and is likely part of the reason she stopped being attached to our house.

We are moving later this year so it’s a very small blessing in disguise as I would have likely made myself sick thinking about her despite knowing she has multiple ways to get food, water, and shelter - or likely given her a heart attack and led her to early death from the stress of moving and no longer being allowed outside. I’m sure your kot looked the same or will if you ever post em.

Yeah, it looks shiny and wet.

If I was the vet I would refer to the right as the ear from the pet's PoV, not ours.

Look up the phone apps WAG or Meowtell.

You pay people to stop by and feed and spend playtime for checkup with instructions on what exactly you want them to do. imo good to have someone just check up at least once a day to see that all is well

RIP to a sweet cat, this makes me afraid for my own cats.

Since you've already crossed this bridge once, I think you should get another kitten right now, preferably from the same litter if any are still available. She's not going to like the kitten much and having another friend around for the kitty will mean she doesn't have to stress herself out dealing with her.

If it's not too much, might want to just carefully trim most of it off with sharp scissors. You can rub stuff like olive oil into the fur and use a flea comb to separate the fur and neutralize a lot of the stickiness. Once it's well-oiled and less sticky then move to Dawn (pretty much the best detergent commonly available). A very fine-tooth comb such as a flea comb will also help you here. Just gently keep working the fur, rinse, wash with soap, oil as necessary, repeat a few times, look for the worst spots and trim carefully.

Wipe off what you can with water, if it's matted on good just cut it off. If it ends up irritating your cat's skin he'll probably just groom all the fur off himself. I'd only worry about it if you think whatever's stuck to him is toxic.

There's a thin cat that kept coming to our house. My mom fed it sometimes.
I wanted to keep it because it was so friendly but I noticed that it has a collar and probably has some owner.

How can I slowly 'rehome' this cat? I don't want to look and ask the owner because he might refuse. At least I want to use the ' oh it just wandered here' excuse and avoid being accused as a cat thief.

Basically I want to slowly 'steal' this cat, any suggestions?
>>
>>4785381
I like how that cat looks exactly like it experienced everything they described it experienced.
>>
>>4785437
I would first consider the possibility that it's someone's actual missing cat if it has a collar and looks unwell.

Otherwise, just keep feeding it and it'll hang around more. Once it's comfortable enough to come into your house you might as well lock it in.

I moved recently, and about a week after, the neighborhood stray started coming inside to visit almost every weekday. (s)he? has a thinning/bald patch that now looks like it's raw and/or has been bleeding, so I'm going to take him to the vet next time he visits.
he's very friendly and seems comfortable indoors, but I let him out when he acts like he's ready to leave. the neighborhood lore is that the family that previously lived in my house owned him, and after they moved somewhere nearby, he decided to keep visiting. lots of people abandon their cats around here and he doesn't seem well taken care of (other than my neighbors feeding him), so I'm not too sure about that story.
if he's not chipped, I think I'm going to keep him. we're not allowed to own outdoor pets where I live. I live alone and work in an office 8h a day, with guests every couple months. how hard do you think the transition from outdoors to solely indoors would be for him?

So I have a bit if a situation: This involves 2 cats, named Alice and Hercules.
So Hercules is 2 years old, Alice 1. When we got Alice, everything was fine. After growing up a bit, Hercules got rather bully-ish. Nothing serious, but once or twice per day he would bully her into a corner and stare her down while she was hissing.
Then she gets into heat, and another of our cats (Kirk, got 1 month later than Alice) got her pregnant.
Everything was cool until 1 week before birth, where she, out of thin air, attacked Hercules like a rabbid dog. Was a singular case we thought, and everything procceeded as usual. Cats were born on the 5th of april, and everything is fine. Until a few days ago. Suddenly now she is VERY nervous, and since yesterday evening, everytime she is let out of her room she goes to hunt after Hercules. She wont rest until she finds and attacks him. If she finds him, all hell breaks loose and she just wont stop attacking him.

Now, I assume its because she sees him as a threat to the children. Will this behaviour cease to exist after a while or will this be the default state now for Alice, to hunt after Hercules until the end of days? Will castrating her change it for the better and how long after birth do I need to wait in order to castrate her? Both Hercules and Kirk are castrated now

hi bros im adopting a couple of very shy cats tomorrow and been told i should just keep them in a couple of rooms to begin with, and i have basically 2 options
either i keep them just in my room which is pretty small (but not extremely tiny) or i open the door to the room next to mine which is bigger and still connected but comes with a littl bit of extra hastle for me since that room doesnt have any doors other than to my room so i would have to fix that, at least temporarily
I wouldnt mind just keeping them in my room with me, but I'm scared that they will simply be too scared with me being constantly around and maybe they would like some space that isnt shared with me which sounds reasonable to me
On the other hand i was wondering if keeping them near me would make them used to me faster, but I feel like it might as well just scare them permanently so im not really sure on what to do because at the end of the day i just want them to be happy
picrel is them when i visited them at the cat shelter yesterday (they were abandoned and like i said very very shy and refused to leave the bed even when the shelter worker was trying to bait them down)

Yeah, I work from home so I plan on separating my workspace and bedroom with a gate to have the new cat while my current one gets the rest of the place. I'll still socialize with her when my work is over and feed them at the same time, because she follows me everywhere and gets upset when I close the bathroom door.
She's mildly social with people as long as they're introduced one-on-one while inside my house, she gets flighty with strangers when I take her on her daily walks.

I had to live in my brother's basement for a couple weeks and she had some time to spcialize with his cats. She was better with his male cat, who is generally chill, while his female cat would chase her back underneath my bed. That cat was allegedly super possessive and jelous of new cats (apparently, she acted upset when my brother-in-law brought over his kitten when he had to stay in their basement for a few months).
I've been told female cats often get pissy with eachother. I'm thinking it was more my brother's female cat than mine who was the bully, so I wanted to see if there were any trends

If it's a cat with a familiarity with houses, maybe it won't be that hard. But there may be times when it will want to go outside. This is why it is important to make a cat-friendly house, because cats suffer when they cannot have a stimulating environment.
I would do the outodoors to indoors transition gradually, then microchip him/her when I'm sure that the cat can actually live inside a house full time.

>>4785586
Hercules has been her bully, I find it normal that she has this behavior towards him now that she has kittens to protect.
When she stops caring about the kittens she'll probably revert to the meek cat she was.
Yes, spay Alice to avoid a lot of problems also to grant your cats a peaceful coexistence; she and Hercules will never best friends, but the aggressions will decrease.
Redirect the question about when to spay her to your vet (I suppose not before the kittens are weaned, so another couple months).

>>4785601
You being constantly around doesn't metter as long as you don't "harass" them, just let them come out and interact with you whenever they feel like it.
I'd keep the door leading to the bigger room opened to arouse their curiosity. At night or when you're not home, they will come out and start exploring.
Remember that it will take some time and patience, if they were abandoned they won't trust you immediately.
