I'm going to post a platypus every day until all of /an/ wants a puggle to snuggle. Old thread hit image limit >>4684291

INB4 yes the males and only the males are venomous. I don't understand anons who don't want to be able to envenomate and make their enemies rue the day they crossed you. Or I guess help contribute to diabeetus research like responsible platypus researchers.

IDK about army, but yes a male and a female would be nice. The maximum average size for a clutch of puggles is three, but the average is 1-2 per mating season for a female. also you have to take into account food and territory availability. Males don't get along with one another. Not even fathers and offspring. A large heathy and well stocked "farm pond" could likely support several adult platypuses quite nicely. Especially if there was shallow river segments for easy foraging connected to it and a healthy wetland surrounding it.

My bones have knitted back together, but I really F***d up my thumb, I'm in physio. It was over a horse. If i post here again, I'm okay, if I don't, I'm hugging a puggle and immediately seeking a new career.

Unfortunately to aquire a bagged platypus requires a very special permit from the Australia. I'm going to level with all of you anons. goal of these threads is to get people to "want" a platypus enough to care about them being threatened by habitat loss and waterway pollution. Maybe, just maybe years down the line it might if pioneering out of country animal ambassador programs like at San Diego go well. It might be possible to "have one" if you can prove you can take care of them and make it useful to aiding Australian wildlife conservation.

Unfortunately or I would argue necessarily platypuses must be earned though conservation. The only real way to have one is to maintain platypus habitat where they live. My retirement plan involves property in platypus territory with a farm pond and wetland that I will improve and maintain. I remind anons to want on because it is easy. I do it because they are delightful and they need us to care.

What's the point of making me want a platypus if I'd need to maintain platypus habitat where they live and they don't live in my country? And don't tell me to move to Australia, I know you're full.
>>
>>4802238
They already said the point in this post, anon: >>4801074
>>
>>4802238
If you can use San Diego as an example get involved with your biggest zoo and try and get them to copy the model to get a pair as conservation ambassadors. My very end goal is to hopefully inspire enough anons to get involved that future generations can actually have a platypus like Texans have big cats. Just less irresponsible and more careful breeding and protecting the genetic stock from ecological disaster responsibly. Captive tigers are being used to prevent the wild population from failing due to inbreeding in some areas of the world.

There was some absolute monster that beheaded several years ago in the news. What would drive someone to want to hurt a creature like a platypus out of pur malice is beyond me. The yabby poachers are bad enough, but to actually kill platypuses on purpose. I can't comprehend how someone would want to do it. Just thinking about it makes me sick.

It's often described as being like very fine slightly rubbery leather. It's completely packed full of delicate sensor nerve clusters. Mostly for electro location, but also underwater vibrations. If you look at the Skeleton >>4800166 you can see it's actually hollow. Absolutely fascinating creatures in basicallyevery way.

platypus anon, what do you think of the long beaked echidna, in papua, another monotreme? I love these little guys so much
>>
>>4810637
Very cute and they also have electro receptors in their beak, just not as many. I don't actually know if the long beaks have the same infection risk from accidentally getting quilled that the short beaks have. The Australian ones tend to have somewhat intentionally poor hygiene in their coat to incourage bacteria as a defence mechanism. It can lead to a little bit of a smell. But they are still very neat. Also echidna milk is used to feed orphaned baby platypuses, so they are cool in my book.

I have stated previously that I in no way support the taking of wild platypuses. Opening a platypus rescue shelter that I could get behind. Or donate to a wildlife protection charity and get a simulated platypus.
