Our Holland Lopp is very healthy, just be aware that you have to watch out for ear infections, Just Check the ears every few days.
They have a great character but geht at least two and make Sure to geht two lops, our lop hast a bit of a problem communicating with his normal eared comareds.

Mine took awhile to warm up to me but will now cuddle up to my face a lot of mornings. He's semi-free roam, he has a room to himself. Generally calm and inquisitive. Does have a sassy thumping side. Doesn't like being picked up so gave up on that long ago. Loves to run around me when I get home and lays close to me when I play vidya or whatever, I love him lots. As long as you're familiar with general rabbit care and rabbit proof your setup they should make a nice 10 year commitment.

Giving a bunny a bath or shower probably does more harm than good.
It removes the natural protective oils from the skin and fur.
I have only done it 2 times.
The first was when one of the young ones had jumped into a open toilet. The second time was when a big dry turd was stuck in the fur under the tail.

One of the most important rules of bun keeping is that you need to act on ailments ASAP because thing scan go downhill much faster than a dog or a cat. You should have went to the vet as soon as you noticed.

>>4869645
I have a holland lop and a lionhead. I wouldn't get a holland lop again. She's my favorite pet ever but I'm not a fan of breeding so far into aesthetics that it affects health. It's not just ear infections, but a lot of holland lops are also hard of hearing or straight up deaf, sometimes even caused by ear infections (mine is deaf, from birth).
>>
>>4874766

>>
>>4874636
This is retarded and can be said of every animal and human. I've watched my bunnies play in light rain til their fur was soaked dozens of times and they were fine. 99% of BS you read about bunnies was written by literal children that grew up with rabbits as pets. Rabbits are a lot stronger and more resilient than people think because everyone who claims that they are fragile little creatures base this on the fact they have inbred abomination miniature bunnies that can literally die from getting scared by loud noises.
>>
>>4873349
is the bnuy actually retaliating or just instinctively shaking its paw?
>>
>>4875468
light rain won't make its way into the inner fur and skin and won't change their body temperature as fast. showering and bathing is O B V I O U S L Y much worse and stressful. rabbits very rarely soak themselves in water in nature. they generally only swim if their life depends on it, and if the water is warm
agree about very frail inbreeds. but not so fast, they are more resilient thank you think until they aren't. the advice is proper since you need to have a margin; they ARE frail in general
either way it doesn't take away from the fact that showering/bathing is stupid and completely unnecessary
argumentative nigger

>light rain won't make its way into the inner fur and skin and won't change their body temperature as fast
LMAO you are retarded. How many people have you ever heard of getting pneumonia during a bath or shower vs. being in the rain outside? Yes, you might get more wet during a shower but it is a controlled, warm environment. Even a light shower outside can be detrimental to HUMANS. If a bun can survive that, it will be more than fine with a shower or bath.
>inner coat bullshit
It's not a husky.
>inb4 some dumbass reply
I'm not the guy you're replying to, btw, and I have only given one of my buns a bath once due to her getting into something that stained her fur. My other bun has never had a bath. But that doesn't mean I'm AFRAID of giving them baths. They just simply haven't needed it.
>>
>>4880178
onion, the very purpose of hair/fur is to lead wind and water away from the skin and maintain a stable body temperature
my bunnies play out in light rain sometimes, they get under a roof on their own when they start getting "soaked". i've literally stuck my finger in the fur and can tell it's only damp at most near the skin at that point
either way it's unnecessary stress and bad for them to do it regularly for frivolous reasons. indeed that's the main issue here. no one is saying they will literally die from having one. no reason to be a pedantic argumentative sperg nigger

A hare is not a domesticated animal. It's nature is to run.
A bunny is docile and can live comfortably in a surprisingly small space or cage.

My current litterbox set up is picrel
>Newspaper (to protect the litterbox from urine)
>Shredded newspaper and wood pellets (to absorb the urine and prevent smell)
>Hardware cloth (to keep the hay away from the urine)
>Hay (for buns to eat)
I hate that first layer of newspaper and I want to increase the absorbency of the second layer. Can I use clay or corncob cat litter? I know that they’re discouraged in rabbit litter boxes, but the rabbits don’t have easy access to that layer
>>
>>4888029
I feel like you're overthinking this. Hardware cloth could cause sore hocks on their feet. There's no need for mesh flooring anywhere in a rabbit habitat. My setup is:
>litterbox
>2 scoops of hard wood stove pellets
>hay
The wood pellets are superior at absorbing liquid and smell despite being the cheapest option available by a wide margin. Hay will get peed on. Buns don't mind, they just won't eat those strands. Pee and dissolved poop will get down to the bottom of the litterbox. That's okay. Wipe it out when you change litter (it will look like moist potting soil). Hit the empty box with some 1:1 vinegar water solution if it's smelly before you put in fresh wood pellets. A bottom layer of newspaper can make it easier to pull all the contents out of the box but it will NOT provide any form of barrier that could stop liquid. I don't use it because the dissolved paper is just harder to clean off the bottom of the box, it tends to stick.

the fuck am I looking at? what is the wire mesh for? why so few pellets? just use news paper on the bottom and an inch or so of pine pellets. if you don't want the hay to get peed on just put hay on the front half of the litterbox, replace with fresh hay when needed. clean every 5 or so days

Maybe I'll go back to using more wood pellets, but this current set up never has any smell (they have two litterboxes and I switch one out M/W/F/Su, so they stick around for 3-4 days). I'm mostly looking to optimize the cleanup/composting.

I'm concerned about the hay soaking in the pee because a) it's wasteful b) it's caused issues with the compost in the past c) it's messy while cleaning d) I don't want their feet to be dirty since they tend to jump onto my bed. The hardware cloth isn't likely to cause hocks since the soggy pellets/shredded paper serve as cushion underneath and the hay serves as cushion on top plus the buns don't spend that much time in the litterboxes, they have a couple places in the room that they prefer (this was their habit before I started using the hardware cloth).

Well, if it's working for you, I don't see the need to question it. Otherwise why would you be asking for validation on 4chan?
I'm not trying to be mean, but you seem like you're really new at this. I'm also really new at keeping bunnies (5 months). You remind me of me when I was still in the adoption prep stage. I can tell you in practice, my simplistic litterbox routine doesn't cause any hygenic issues. My buns don't jump on my furniture (I actually encourage them, but they're EXTREMELY cautious and skittish), but they do jump on my lap, and no trace of their litter or pee and poop ends up on me. Just fur and crumbles of the treats I give them.

I already said that I wanted to increase the absorbency of the second layer in order to get rid of the bottom layer.
>>
>>4888519
I dunno. Wood pellets just work. I don't see the need to use anything else. The plastic litterbox is there to protect the floor of your house from rabbit piss. There's no need to protect the plastic of the litterbox. It's really as simple as that.

There are some people on this planet like this. There was some guy from Iran I think, he hadn't showered for like 50 years and he was living in a whole in the ground and smoked animal feces through metal pipe. Concerned villagers wanted him to take a shower and he died from it supposedly. He was quite old.

Like any other mammal's claws, but smaller. My boys' claws aren't very sharp. Doesn't bother me when they hop in my lap when I'm wearing shorts and their foot slips a little and use my exposed knee to get themselves back up. Doesn't even leave a mark, really.

Obviously a responsible owner would sweep it up of the bnuy leaves a bunch, but at least they only leave tiny, dry, odorless pellets. Walking down a corridor that had dog or cat turds in it would be about a million times worse.
>>
>>4891629
>he lived to the age of 94
if only he never took that bath... poor guy.
>>
>>4889894
it isn't like that at all because bunnies "shower" themselves all the time and maintain themselves perfectly clean
it's more like you using excessive shampoo or soap that dries out your skin
>>
>>4892916
Why yes, if a fucking hippopotamus let his morning shit rip it would be worse. But that doesn't mean it isnt still asshole behavior to allow people to step on your pet's milk duds.

My 2 boys are doing alright. Had them almost 6 months now. They're still not interested in receiving pets, unless they're too busy taking a treat out of my other hand to notice. Really hope they become comfortable with me handling them before they go through their big shed next year. I want to help them with brushies.
