Welp, blue jays found the berries. I think I heard a veery in there this morning too and robins have been at it for a while. They don't taste good to humans until after a frost then they taste like little tomatoes.
Oh yeah the veery was notable because it was making a sound like it's usual "veer" call which you know if you have them around... but it was trilled like it was throwing in a bit of it's song at the beginning. You had to be there. Nobody cares except me. It was cool though.

I just heard a carolina wren singing. They are usually supposed to be south of me by a hundred miles. I wonder if this one is migrating north a bit before heading south. Or could just be a nearby resident that's migrating through, range maps aren't always right.

Thanks to the anon who responded to my comment in the last thread. I plan to emigrate to the USA somewhere in the coming years to build a homestead with lots of animals. The ducks will have an outdoor enclosure around a water source (to protect them from birds of prey) so the eggs would be easy to find. I might keep chickens as well for a more consistent source of eggs besides that.

Baby goldfinches found my bird bath and were all drinking out of it and taking little splashy baths while the adults were eating flower seeds in my garden I'm so happy. Goldfinch breeding time is the best time of year. But I know they will be gone in a couple weeks when the adults start to molt and I won't see them until November.

I love to playfight with this lil nibba so much. A little magnolia warbler ran itself into one of my windows and broke its neck. ): What new lifers has everyone gotten? Saw the Nashville warbler, magnolia warbler, and eastern wood pewee the last few weeks.

Stared at it longingly from the railing, then jumped down and tried to chase it and grab it. They're not good predator birds and the squirrel was too fast for it, but unusual to see. The squirrel didn't seem to understand it was being hunted and kept going back to eating and the raven tried multiple times to catch it.
I think I hear a young chickadee practicing singing. Keeps making a whistle sound that kind of sounds like a chickadee 3-note song but it's quieter and out of tune.

I have a question about eating birds. I'm not a big meat eater.The only birds I've eaten are turkey, duck, and chicken; they taste broadly pretty similar (though duck is too oily for me to stomach). Meanwhile, pork, beef, and mutton all taste super different. Do birds in general all taste the same or is it just the ones that happen to be commonly eaten?

My 5 year old budgie is sick and the vet likely said he'll live for another year or go as fast as a few months. It's a tumor they can't operate on. I feel so bad bros. I am making him comfy and gonna try fixing the cage so its easier for him to move. Both his feet aren't working like they should but he's otherwise his usual self. Couldn't get a pic of it but seen a beautiful light purple almost lavender bird with an orange chest. I live in NC borderline VA area (could literally walk across the border within the hour) and after a little bit of googling the closest match I could get is the Eastern Bluebird (image related). Which not only be blue instead of purple but even the orange is extremely dull. Is it possible I seen something else or did I just so happen to spot one of the most beautiful and possibly mutated Eastern Bluebird I could had possibly ever seen? I doubtful I am mistaken or it could been the lighting, it was a sunny day with it being in direct sunlight and it stood still enough for me to get a good long look at it, just not long enough to pull out my phone when thinking about it and getting to the photo app.
