>take dog to vet for 5 minutes to get allergy shot and ears>that will be $300 please>$120 consult, $100 for allergy shot, $80 for antibiotic cream for earsWhy are vets so expensive? This is also the "cheapest" vet in my areaThe allergy shot & antibiotic cream is only going to last "1-3 months"
>>4892815Because the moment you start putting a price on the health of individuals or their loved ones, you'll find that you can overcharge with ease.See: America
Because becoming a vet is pain and I deserve to get out of the six years of suffering. You go and learn the Latin names of every single bump on every single bone of many species and then not charge people an arm and a leg for your services.>t. Veterinary medicine student.
>>4892830Im just not getting dogs ever again
>>4892830>i hav to learn things which hurts my brain uwu>so prepared to get anal gaped by my billsHow about fuck you
>>4892835That's gonna be 100 dollars.
Feed your dog goyslop and garbage and then flip out it has allergies then immediately drive the poor creature to the vet because it itched it's ears 3 times in a day instead of 2. Nigga just give it a Benadryl you stupid ahh
>>4892854nah cunt, his ear stunk like an infection when he would itch his ears and there was even puss coming out
>>4892815Allergy shots are the biggest scam. I had them for over a year, weekly, in grade school. I still get horrible allergies every spring and summer.
>>4893234Learn to clean his ears them dum-dum Jesus Christ it's not rocket science.
>>4892830You knew what you were getting into. You sound like those ungrateful waiters who accept a job paying $2/hr and then complain when you don't get a big enough tip to offset it.
>>4892830maybe make the names in english then, instead of having latin, designed for gatekeeping.
>>4892815Because of people like >>4893392 that get their pet taken care of, but then don't pay
>>4893374I got into this precisely because it's hard, if it was easy everyone would have to deal with competition. And since when I'm done I'll have a rare and in demand skillset I will be able to make a decent amount of money. >>4893376Not my call, i know some universities allow English nomenclature but i have to deal with a dead language. Thankfully it's being phased out in histology and only really being used in anatomy and biology these days.
>>4893402Yes, literally. They make it expensive because they dont expect you to pay and shouldn't unless you are rich and want to donate to the vet.
>>4892815Because nobody wants to put in the same effort meds students have to for half the pay. If you're complaining about dogs then don't even think about owning birds or horses. Good vets are like cryptids nowadays.
>>4892815Vet shortage, because it genuinely does not make money for the effort and med school is unironically less stressful.Pharmaceutical companies charge what they feel like, and you don't have insurance covering the bulk of the cost.Employee costs. As pets are becoming more part of the family, people don't want LaToya accidentally strangling little fluffy anymore. 20 years ago people gave much less of a fuck about how the vet staff man handled their pets, but now many states require techs to be certified, and staff often have to take continuing education, and with that the smarter employees generally require more pay.>>4893402This as well but to a lesser extent - Usually this happens a handful of times, and then vets stop taking payment plans and require full payment up front. So it destroys the possibility of paying a little bit over time. Any vet that allows that shit nowadays is retarded and deserves to get fucked over honestly
>take dog to vet for 5 minutes to get allergy shot and ears>costs a bajillion dollarsShoulda bought your dog some used ears instead of new ones, kiddo.
>>4892815At least they didn't try to sell you dry food or an incense infuser. Could be worse.
>>4893374unironic sociopathic comment
Because companies and owners treat vets and vet techs like unironic garbage so the field is is bleeding staff and the ones who have made the unfortunate decision too stay are now being treated even worse thanks to corporate greed and even stupider clients as it seems covid broke humanities collective minds
>>4894231*unless you go to a family owned vet, No, we do not have any control over pricing, the faceless corporate owners of these places do not care and will fire anyone who fights on these things. We have no power to stop it as they can unironically just import vets from other countries and unless you live in a state that's REALLY hard ass on vet licensing and vet tech accreditation, they can do whatever for shit pay. No this isn't some "THEY TOOK MEH JAWB" shit, I cant blame the people coming in, its just how it is.
>>4894232Sorryimport vets or just fucking close the place, the trend of short sighed "as much money now as possible" with no concept of long term thinking" will be the death of this industry and many more.
I recently learned that along with dentists, Scientologists buy up a lot of vet clinics or buy the insurance companies that cover vet clinics. Anyone have any idea why?
>>4892815GRRRRRR ZOMG WHY DOES THIS HIGHLY-TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL WHO DID EIGHT YEARS OF SCHOOL AND TWO YEARS OF RESIDENCY SOOOOOO EXPENSIVE??? I COULD DO ALL THIS MYSELF!...IF I HAD THE TRAINING AND RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT AND OFFICE SPACE AND AND AND AND
>>4892815Incompetent too, vets are just glorified dog groomers/hairdressers at this point. I'm still mad that my "highly experienced best rated in town" asshole couldn't bother to diagnose my last dog's cardiomyopathy in advance enough to let him at least live painlessly for 2 years before dying compared to the shithole vet who nailed the diagnosis a year later but it was too late. Vets are like a roulette, some put effort others are idiots.
>>4894448Stop defending corporate banking corruption you absolute drone.
>>4894533Ooo yeah those greedy veterinarian bankers, having the gall to charge money for their goods and services. It's communism I tell ya!
>>4894533it's called the free market son. the scarcity of service drives up the price. what's wrong, you hate capitalism or something? you a commie faggot that takes it in the ass?
>>4894852He thinks veterinarians should live on the streets in poverty and heal animals for free and warm fuzzy feelings. What a dipshit.
>>4894852No you fucking idiot. Insurance leeches and nonpayers abusing usury drive up the price. Private (chinese) equity buying up realestate and jacking rent drives up the price. Government fees hitting all the way up to drug r&d jack up the price. Corrupt unis jacking up tuition to profit off HURRR SPURTSBAL drives up the price. And then at the end of the day because its “capitalist” without common sense regulation (as capitalism has been regulated for most of human history before americans and their “holy principles”) you get garbage services like premature desexing and flea and tick meds that might kill your pet because more frequent lower doses would not sell as much to lazy americans as one very strong incurable one. Listen, you stupid faggotAmerica has been neither capitalist nor a a democracy in almost a century. It started out as a retarded nigger free for all and turned into a socialist republic. Nothing is fair or free. You are not standing up for the founding fathers principles when you defend this shit. Republican vs demonrat means 5 domestic billionaires vs 95 foreign billionaires. You are only standing up for a corrupt super-upperclass that behaves so much like the soviet communist party they may as well start diagnosing social dissent and wrongthink, ie: recognizing haitians as of subhuman intelligence and as a genetic contagion even compared to normal african americans, or pointing out that its not democracy when billionaires give you a few curated choices while all others are aggressively deplatformed, as “slow progression schizophrenia”.
>>4894857>blah blah blahDo your own veterinary work then, you lazy communist fuckboy.
>>4894857>america is askcually...LE COMMUNISTlmao. post discarded.
>>4894862>>4894860keep calling government bloat and corrupt unis and private equity “heckin capitalist” you stupid dronesyeah you’re totally paying a man for his work!actually you are paying for a proxy war against russia, palestinian genocide, college sports, blackrock investor kickbacks, and a private jet ride for the congressman billionaires appointed for you via media manipulation and cheating w/ mail in ballotsamerica is not capitalistamerica is not a democracyyour leaders have dual israeli citizenship and are explicitly trying to replace you with nonwhites.
>>4894863Wow, I can accomplish all that just by getting my dog's rabies vaccine? That's amazing! Does China know about this life hack?
>>4894863Dont forget the fuel taxes that are totally fightong climate change (stuffing demonrat pockets) and cap and trade garbage (stuffing demonrat pockets) bloating prices before shit even gets to tje vetthis all adds up. the feds and state jews have slipped a fee or ten into every step of the process. if a degree is involved you’re also paying off 200 grand per graduate because a loan was used to line pockets and push DEI and “activism”. A loan with high interest. you are not paying for good and services. half your money goes to a parasitic jewish government.
>>4894864China is authoritarian because they are not ran by a matriarchal people (jews). They do not need hidden fees and bureaucratic bloat to hide their tyranny from goycattle like a manipulative estrogen sack. If they say we are building a rocket, it happens. People will work for free if they do not want to transact. Regulations are waived if unwanted. They are currently greenwashing deserts and throwing uo nuclear and wind power as fast as the US is “totally not redirecting” funds to settle your 95 iq nonwhite replacement complacent voter base.
>>4894869When was the last time you took your meds? Do you need a refill?
>>4894873I’m actually sane but a therapist i was forced to visit by the university (because i called a mouthy negro a subhuman ape and told him he is not, and will never be a human being) more or else said, as literally as i can remember “one day racism will be a mental illness and you will be locked up. i want your guns taken and will be voting for amended red flag laws every year. You will recognize the value of human life or society should punish you.”That’s as crazy as it gets. They wanted to find symptoms of schizophrenia on an MRI after I ripped a blunt out of a potheads mouth and gut punched them, but they did not. I only got an assault charge. They didnt let me attend the ceremony but I still got my MBA, masters in CS, and job with tesla lmao.
>>4894876PS: this is a true story, students actually donated to have my brain scanned because my convictions and willingness to offend make notoriously violent academics like nick longrich look like soccer moms, and yet, i mogged every class. Superior ability breeds superior contempt. I attended 8 years of college from 16 to 24 and have an IQ of 146.
>>4892815you dressed to high class and got stiffed.
>>4892815Vets are superior beings that deserve high paying money for working hard in school and dedicating their lives to helping animals, plus they have a lot student debt. My sister is a vet so I actually don't have to pay for a lot of the nonsense you plebs have too.
>insuranceOh boy here we go with THIS shit again. Let's see if I remember the script:>Me: Get the insurance>You: No I'm smarter than that *tips fedora*>Dog: *gets injured*>You: WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME ABOUT INSURANCE REEEEEEE>Me: I'm kicking you out and letting your dog die on the sidewalk. Have a good day.Okay that last part is my fantasy but the rest is true. Seen it a thousand times.
>>4894091Bullshit, all the vets I know lived in huge houses and drove luxury cars/giant trucks and could afford multiple vacations a yearMaybe in bumfuck nowhere they might be struggling, but anywhere civilized vets are megajewsIt's the poor techs that make peanuts and have to deal with all the horseshit of the practice
>>4894225>person complains about the choices they willingly made for themselves and acts like it's the responsibility of other people to make up for them>others point out how retarded that is and how they should've accepted the consequences of their own actions>UMMMMMM YIKES THAT'S PRETTY SOCIOPATHICGenuinely such a braindead mindset.
>>4894876You should have taken that piece of shit out right then and there.
>>4894886>be me>get pet insurance>dog gets cancer>insurance doesn't cover that
>>4894876yeah, none of that happened
>take dog to the vetwhat are you gay? tractor supply has rabies shots clinics and I can buy flea and tick meds anywhere, or spray them down with rose and tea tree oil.
>>4895212First result on Google. Try harder.https://www.forbes.com/advisor/pet-insurance/pet-care/cancer-treatment-coverage/You probably purchased accident-only insurance because you're a cheap jew.
>>4894886bullets cost 20 cents and dogs are free, who cares
>>4895246Why are you even here? Get off the internet and touch grass, freak.
>>4895249have kids you zoophile retard. I like my dogs, they aren't worth thousands of dollars when they're at the end of their life cycle.
>>4892815Supply and demand. Pet ownership shot up during covid lockdown...and so did real estate, the commercial rent that vet clinics have to pay. Most places, commercial rents are only protected from hikes by contract, and most commercial property owners are content to leave it vacant because they can sell it to turn it into a condo later...so even the vet techs that are trained now have problem opening a new clinic. Some vet clinics would also do emergency treatment for strays people bring in so you could be paying for that too, and depending on where you are, the vet clinic employee's regular rabies shot that may not be covered by people health care even in places with universal health care.
>>4894231>Because companies and owners treat their employees and like unironic garbage so the field is is bleeding staff and the ones who have made the unfortunate decision too stay are now being treated even worse thanks to corporate greed and even stupider clients as it seems covid broke humanities collective mindsftfy. it's happening in every industry, from fast food to boeing
>>4895256>I like my dogs, they aren't worth thousands of dollars when they're at the end of their life cycle.I have no problem with people making this decision for their pets, because I've made this decision for me, an i think more people need to make this decision for themselves too, life extension have reached a point where it's pouring resources down the drain to extend SUFFERING. Dying sucks, but everybody dies, you might as well go when there are still more good memories then bad. I don't remember where I heard this, 4chan or reddit or even news article or livejournal, but there was someone who worked at a hospice who said that patients would beg to die and there was nothing she could do but carry on with her job.
>>4895265>i think more people need to make this decision for themselves too, life extension have reached a point where it's pouring resources down the drain to extend SUFFERING.Agreed 100%>FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER>No more games. No more bombs. No more walking. No more fun. No more swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No fun- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. This won't hurt. ~Hunter S Thompson
>>4892815dogs dont do need all that shit, you wasted your money. and yes, vets are turbo kikes.
Supply and demand. It's an unfathomable pain in the ass to become a vet so there aren't many, hence why they can charge whatever they want.
>>4895280People don't need vets, either. A good cat or mutt is free and lives in the case of cats nearly 20 damn years or dogs 12-15. You can get rabies shots at the feed and seed once a year. Buying a breed is full retard>but muh nibble mixesWell don't get one, they're visually distinct
being a vet ain't a easy job op
>>4892815Vets are Jews. I just give my dogs flea prevention shit and they've been fine. Ofcourse if they need surgery then yeah a vet is the way to go. However I recommend finding a cool ranch vet, those guys are actually pretty cool and sometimes will work on household pets.
>>4892815>All vets are greedy Jewish kikes!>N-no I don't know anything about animal medicine>Yes I will take my pet to the vet if they get injured>But how dare those jews charge me money!!!Yall literally sound 13 years old. Go back to preddit.
>>4892815>consultExam fees vary, $120 is average in my experience. It's high for a couple reasons: A) vet school is expensive and all the vets are in debt, and B) most clinics are corporate owned now, and they generally have raised their prices. It may not be posted on the outside, most companies don't change the branding or name after they buy. >allergy shotI'm assuming they got cytopoint, which unfortunately is expensive as there is no generic. Pharmacy sets the base price, and it's high, especially if dog is big. Good news, it works amazingly well with no side effects. Bad news, when it wears off symptoms come back immediately and very badly>antibiotic creamdepends on the cream and whats actually in I, but again pharmacy costsThe TL;DR is corporates bought all the practices over COVID and raised prices to turn a profit, as most practices were barely making ends meet.
>come outside of main operating hours due to emergency >yea that'll be an additional $200 just to see the animalhow can they justify this? imagine a gas station shop adds %50 to all items prices because you came in after 10pm
