Even people that like horse racing obviously point out the horrible ethics that companies that promote it partake in and do what they can to try and push for better conditions and proper treatment for the horses before, during and after their racing careers. There's entire businesses that are designed around trying to make sure those horses don't just get discarded and slaughtered and are also taking advantage of the growing popularity caused by umamusume worldwide to encourage more people to put pressure on those industries to push for better treatment. It's good more people are getting eyes on it, especially through a medium that encourages parasocial relationships to the horse itself, since it leads to more people caring about their treatment rather than just the money it brings in.

I found out through researching that some of the biggest exporters of horse as meat products like Mexico don't even really eat horses anymore, so how come it's still such a big industry? Pretty much every commonly associated use of slaughtered horses like glue and gelatin and meat have all been phased out of common use/found alternative artificial sources. So how come these industries still exist?

Baboons of both sexes are hilariously misogynistic, everything revolves around what the head male wants, and there's a lot of sucking up to him for favor, while females are basically ignored by both sexes, though I imagine female baboons are thinking "who does that bitch think she is" when a woman tries to train them. Horses have their own peculiarities about the sexes. They generally expect a bossy female who has to be obeyed, but they also expect that she can be replaced by any mare that can get one up on her. Stallions are a bit scary, but all the mares want one around regardless, and he's important and they're usually content to let him have his way. Sort of "happy stallion, happy band," and that attitude can work out in the human's favor. Though you still have to watch out for mares who suspect they'd be better leaders, as they'll try to bully you to see if you're bullyable. Stallions also like to have a male buddy or leader, at least up until acquiring mares gets involved. They can form really strong bonds in bachelor herds, which can sometimes last for some time after one of them acquires a band of mares -- the lead stallion's lieutenant doesn't get to breed any of them, but he gets to hand out with his bro and get safe and grow big and strong until he can get his own band.
