Poor people built them because rich people paid them to build them. Rich people are disconnected from reality and it's not their money so they don't care how stupid it is and how much work goes into it.The crazy thing about pyramids is that this is the first time in history someone had this amount of wealth and influence. They had no examples of wealthy people before them. They had very little references for what it's like to leave a legacy. These were people high off the new infrastructure and book keeping of their age.The poor peasants wouldn't even have a way to understand the amount of wealth. They had nothing to compare it it. From the point of view of the peasant you just have these leaders with infinite money who pay you to do things.It's like this with every new thing.
