Once you have enough gold and silver, it can be fun to add some spice to your stack with a bit of platinum (and maybe palladium next). Note that platinum is more scarce than gold, at least the one that we can mine; it also has unique properties and multiple industrial uses. This is why it can spike wildly, like when it surpassed gold. I think it's very unlikely that it will have a huge drop in the next years, with higher chance to increase. It just can't give you the safety of gold.
