Capital assets will do very well while the economy is saturated with debt and the bond market is several factors larger than the entire economy.
Even equities that are worth owning are overbought (leveraged) so you can lose. The things to invest in are things oversold such as GME & precious metals. A massive selloff/crash is looming and the medicine lined up for it is inflation. And there will be no V shaped recovery because the banks may not even exist to lend. It will be a black hole and the "service" economy of people buying food and drinking beer is going to topple over like dominoes.

weird to me how some people assume that because we're hodling boomer rocks that we don't also hold crypto, stocks and/or other assets too.

Leaves me to believe these people have all their eggs in one basket, meaning they're hardly the people anyone should take any advice from in the first place, yet here they are, the karens of 4chan reeing over the proclivities of others.

>muh millions

>>
>>59200818
It only existed because of the reserve status allowing us to import basically limitless goods. Prior to Bretton Woods, trade balances were always Net-Zero because your economy would shrink if you were spending gold on imports.
I think the deficit is like several hundred of billions of dollars worth of imports more than we export. These goods are then amplified in terms of consumption, energy, jobs and tax revenues etc. Even taking that loss into consideration you will a depression of epic proportions. You won't have endless big-box-stores with packed shelves of literally everything you could imagine at very cheap prices. Things will be scarce and things will cost more and you will be carpooling and cooking at home and washing your aluminum foil just like your grandparents did. It was normal for families to never eat out except for maybe KFC once every 4 months. The older boomer generations and beyond lived very poor lives relative to now. Did we all just get smarter? Did computers and technology improve things so much we are post-scarcity? No.
We simply ruined our country by spending money on the credit card. Everyone's "wealth" is nothing but a big pile of IOUs that can never be paid. It may as well say "IOU the planet Jupiter" Good luck trying to get it. The largest economy in the world of $22TN, and given the leveraged nature of the economy it's going to pop like a balloon. America works as efficiently as it does because 100% of EVERY DOLLAR you have ever earned is used & consumed and all you have to show for it is an IOU.
Every dollar you makes goes back to the government (taxes & insurance), sitting as bank deposits, or given to Wallstreet, or used to pay for financed consumption (houses and cars) or used to pay for expensive renewable goods/serrvices (food, vices, medical & other services).
To the extent that anyone in this country has ANYTHING AT ALL it is only through the gold holdings at the banks. You are 100% beholden to them.

>pity the person who... comes to a PMG board on 4han on a Wednesday morning... They likely have nothing else.
Be nice, its not his fault, he needs this job so he doesn't have to go back to collecting used condoms, driftwood and giving foot jobs to boomer sexpats.
>>
>>59201285
What this means is that any traditional sense of wealth is going to implode relative to the scarce capital goods people will need to hold to survive the 100% guaranteed fact of the credit-implosion. The only consideration here is the timeline and the ability of the banks to slow-poison you before they slam the final-fatal dose of inflation. When hold revalues to swamp the debts it will be the IOU owners who lose.

Fed's reverse repo facility about to drain to zero. We reach a liquidity crisis then. Fed has to ramp up the money printer full blast. Inflation is going to skyrocket and make 2022 look like a prologue. All the hype from this bullrun is going to flood into risk-off assets because of the insane bank collapses and inflation about to set off.
>>
Larger banks like JP Morgan won't be able to cover their silver shorts any longer while they're too busy taking on dying regional banks full of bad CRE notes. FDIC will get overwhelmed and create a confidence crisis. The leash is going to be taken off silver, and it's going to run apeshit.

Equities. Preferably with mines in stable locations. Honestly, though, if the dollar implodes it is very likely it comes with political turmoil. The necessity of metals and the low output relative to other renewable commodities means it is risky in case those resources get nationalized. I own some UUUU and I do so only because it is an energy commodity that moves differently from PMs. That way I can move my money around if I need. Ideally though, all of my credit speculations (I include all equities as credit speculations) only exist so I can turn profits in to PMs and pay down debts.

The dollar is doomed to implode because debts are exponential functions. All of the derivatives and bank deposits, and loans in existence are propped up by IOUs that dwarf even the size of the U.S. GDP. To tap in to the "demand" held in stasis and actualize it in to real resources is impossible. Hell, the banks don't even have the cash to backstop everyone and the FDIC is comically useless.
The contagion starts with the bond market and the central bank will be the only entity even close to capable of providing liquidity for all of the sell pressure and they won't be able to do this without undermining the value of the cash. The only chance the banks have left to kick the can will be tightly controlled levels of rationing which will go in tandem with higher prices.
No way around it. The system as it stands is not possible without it spinning off nuclear waste in the form of these IOUs. For the system to be sustained would require the laws of thermodynamics to need not apply as if accountants and bankers can sidestep the reality. It only works so long as the bond market is propped up. The large institutions have a vested interest in keeping in going for obvious reasons - but as for the rest of us we are free to leave and buy gold and silver and watch the $22TN GDP handle the $45TN bond market. As if it wouldn't pop like bubble.

And those little fixes are massive rugpulls to a system that can only tread water with perpetually growing spending. You know to pay back even $1 of the national debt you have to completely balance the U.S. budget which is running at almost $1.7TN deficit. Remove $1.7TN and did nothing. That is 6% of the US GDP taken right off the top, a massive contraction of the economy and you only started your journey. A journey amounting to nothing but a complete credit crunch, bankruptcy, and political turmoil.

And that is only the fixed debt. Programmatic debt and contractual debt is twice the "hard" debt. And that is only at the Federal level. States are deeply in debt too. And consumers are in debt up to their eyeballs and already at record levels of default on credit cards. And corporate debt is another gigantic hole with nothing to fill it (like Rosie O'Donnell).

There is no way out other than massive default or inflation. Government will choose inflation because it keeps the party going longer for the insiders and they can deny it until the very end.

every dollar I put into my businesses multiplies by thousands of times EVERY YEAR

While bitcoin has made amazing gains over the years, I would have lost money if I took it out of my business and put it in crypto. Because I've made better ROI than bitcoin. Only difference is it took a lot more work and a lot less risk.

He won't get a few years. The fed's reverse repo went from $2 trillion of extra cash in storage in 2022 down to $160 billion in October this year. Crypto is going to be a poor storage of wealth. I really can't wrap my head around the notion that the bond market and the dollar are going to come under extreme duress but somehow crypto will magically retain purchasing power. I think people will get scared out of their crypto holdings and will be desperately trying to buy PMs. And the second people suspect there is a bottom in equities people will be selling it too. The technology is certainly very interesting, but it will be as useful as an air conditioning unit on a desert island.

I called many threads ago that it'd hit $2,300. I think that's a fair bottom. $2,100 is what I hope for.

People who want the price of gold to go up are retards who think gold is an investment. It's not. It's a hedge against inflation and store of value.

You ain't wrong. I saw the advertisements to join the Reddit internet meme money subreddit. It would have been great if I bought some.
But irregardless of the whatever happened in the past, the credit-crunch is going to rip ALL leveraged gains from the system. I think the pressure will be so immense it will be like that gif of the crab getting sucked through a pipe. Dollar amounts may rise or fall. But I bet any storage of wealth tied in any way tangential to credit (such as mortgages, insurance, equities, bonds, service economy, cheap imports) are ALL going to get crushed 80% in REAL PURCHASING POWER. Your home ain't worth $1M. It's only that high because of bank credit. The standard was several years salary, to which it will return. Credit investments will implode and capital will assert its value through shear scarcity alone. Useful metal forged with manpower/labor hours and refined with immense levels of energy input will take you to the upper echelons of society.
As for the 12,500% ROI. what happens when you multiply your final number by .10% (90% loss). You very quickly see how ANY amount of investment can evaporate. The point of PMs is to not get sucked into the pipe of the credit crunch. The inverse is you MAKE MONEY. as 1933 sets the historical precedent.

This is a very astute observation. Without a doubt crypto is very interesting technology with regards to digitial IP and transfering ownership rights etc.
Bix Weir talks about "Theta" having some sort of shared computing power technology. But I don't understand why that technology would need to be scarce when someone could theoretically recreate the same technology but in an infinite quantity? Is it worth the gamble? Sure. Is it a good store of capital, I woulnd't bet my life's savings on it.
As for silver? I can fundamentally prove that the white metal is mispriced. I can prove the globe is saturated with debt.
The question actually becomes: is there a ratio of BTC to silver that could ever arise that could be meaningful? I think it makes sense that BTC would COLLAPSE along with everything else against the price of PMs. Banks own all of the gold, but they can't stake a claim on silver (a monetary metal with six million years of history with the GSR) because the market is so comically small.
I say this tepidly, as the time-frames on economic systems being multi-generational, but the greatest trades you can make is to sell leveraged assets for PMs. Having a house or selling a car or any other overprice collectible (collectibles only exist for most things because of credit. Go sell pokemon cards to people earning $10 per day.) A $6000 black lotus may make sense because it is so iconic. Is that worth 200 ounces of silver? I bet it won't be after the bond market implodes!

>>
>>59206530
in the event of societal breakdown you might get out with your gold but your paper derivatives are going to be gone
>>
>>59206536
That's the answer I was assuming. If you combine it with stockpiling things like seeds, then I understand completely.
>>
>>59206530
Physical is a liquid safety net, imagine if all your cards got stolen or a big storm knocked out the power. You could bring it to a coin shop and have it exchanged for cash to get by, if you didn't have cash, you should always have cash.
Also there isn’t enough reserves to back the future positions, if you actually needed to have it delivered, you wouldn't be able to because everyone else would be trying to.
>>
>>59204340
The original purpose of bitcoin was to be a medium of exchange but it obviously isn't being used for that purpose.

The nature of the block being exponential in difficulty makes that not really viable in the long term either, altcoins have fixed that problem but nobody uses them for that purpose either precisely for the reason that an alt medium of exchange is not a necessity in society, the USD already exists.

Gold right now is in this same boat, it is not being used as a medium of exchange for anything although it has actually held that purpose in the past unlike crypto.
Silver is the odd one out since its mostly an industrial metal.
>>
>>59206530
if the house defaults you get nothing
if you own the metal the only person who can lose it is yourself
its about trusting someone else vs trusting yourself
its worth noting the reason that futures contracts exist in the first place, they were created to allow banks and wall street traders to expose themselves to the price of a good without actually doing any of the work involved in holding it, nothing more and nothing less
any decisions you make should take that fact into account

No.
Percentage remains the same. Overall weight/mass diminishes. A statistically valid per-coin weight in a pile of worn dimes is 0.715 ozt instead of mint-new being 0.723 - a 1.1% difference.

One thing I like about PMs is the elegance of its exchange rate.

Very roughly speaking:
100:1 exchange of silver to gold
100:1 exchange of copper to silver

It's very aesthetically pleasing. I would like to get a few hundred 1oz copper rounds even though I know the premium is murder. They're very pretty.

Ok Mr. Smartypants, explain bitcoin without searching anything, copy/pasting anything or using an AI to formulate an answer. Explain to all of us dummies why bitcoin is worth so much and where it gets it's value from. Please explain.
>>
>>59210921
>explain bitcoin

Simple, you buy a bitcoin etf when there's a Catalyst like ETF approval or trump winning the election. You make an easy 150%.

Lmao, you don't have a brokerage accouht
>>
>>59210978
That doesn't explain where it gets it's value from? There's no bitcoin in your computer or phone, but theres gold and silver in them. That's why precious metals have value in the 21st century and that's why crypto will eventually be completely worthless.
>>
>>59209993

>>
>>59210891
he's right, the current mined ratio of silver to gold is generally quoted at 6-8:1
figures change constantly but it's well below 16:1

What that says about relative value is debatable, but from what I've seen gold tends to track inflation in houses and other consumer goods while silver has tracked inflation in wages.

and wages have not kept up with the cost of houses or other goods, so silver has not kept up with gold. Either because silver (wages) are too low, or prices (gold) are too high. Either way there's likely to be an adjustment to wages or prices- or both- which should adjust the GSR to something closer to reality. Currently the disconnect is over 10X off and doesn't reflect supply at all. Though it's probably a fair enough representation of demand.

gold is about 10 times rarer than silver, and rich people want gold about 100 times more than they want silver. Gold is probably a veblen good. People actually want more of it as the price rises simply because the price is so high. Silver may also be a veblen good, it's difficult to know the real value of something people buy primarily to preserve wealth.
>>
>>59210978
>you don't have a brokerage accouht
Oh and I actually do by the way...
>>
>>59210876

>>
>>59211275
>actually what happens is if gold becomes too expensive for someone, they buy silver
No, most people aren't buying gold or silver

and anyone too poor to buy gold isn't going to affect the price of silver. I'm talking about billionaires, investment firms, banks, industrial consumers. You guys stacking metal in a closet have no impact on the price of metals at all. If every one of you sold your stack at exactly the same time and then never stacked again, nothing would happen to the price of metals.

partly because paper dilutes physical so much the actual metal has nothing to do with the price, and partly because private stackers as a group simply don't hold a significant fraction of the world's metal, and even if they did, investors are still buying and selling naked paper contracts hypothetically based on the metal we own.

our own stacks are being used to hold prices down or drive them up with leverage.

Nonsense. Look at Japan in the aftermath of WWII. Currency worthless. Heavy industry destroyed. Morale destroyed. Half the male population destroyed. Transportation infrastructure destroyed. National culture destroyed. And on and on. Yes, they had some tough years, but it was never Mad Max and within twenty years they were building the world's first high-speed trains and hosting the Olympics. The demise of the dollar alone isn't going to throw us back to the stone age. There will be some tough years, some major economic reshuffling, some cultural purging, and some big winners and losers. But civilization will survive and very quickly thrive.

If you're trying to hedge with a gold index, you don't realize that it's entirely dependent on a spot price set by COMEX / LBMA. The kind of situation /pmg/ buys gold and silver for is one where the COMEX and LBMA no longer have any sort of control over futures contracts anymore. When they go bust, there isn't going to BE a spot price.

Without a price, all your indices and gold backed contracts are going to be frozen. You won't be able to trade it. Everyone is going to be out for the physical metals themselves, and they're going to vanish from the market within hours.

I feel a lot of stackers in here still need to realize too that the spot price is just an illusion and we get caught up in that too much. When it really goes down, you are the one with the power, and you will be the one setting the price.
