I think in my early teens sometime. I don't remember exactly what it was about, but I read my first news article about an event that I was actually very familiar with, since I had been there myself when it happened. And the article was all crap, misleading background info, misquotes from interviews with people there, spelling errors on names, you name it. The article would have been more useful if compressed into just one paragraph with the basic outline of the event rather than trying to stuff in incorrect and awful details.

One of the biggest tragedies that the unchecked power of journalism happened is that we prioritize massiveness and entertainment when we should be focusing on trying to spread information as accurately as possible. Most people go about their days thinking that because reporters are "respected" they are "right". Reporters and news anchors are communicators and entertainers first and researchers second, there's a reason why fact checking has become so important on social media right now, people still believe that if someone is famous they must be right or informed. People will believe literally anything because "its on the news" or "i saw it from this influencer on tiktok/yt" its insane

The news is mostly propaganda but the real red pill is when you realize that the vast majority of the people in the world are just winging it, including the vast majority of people who have fancy titles.

A slag made a shit video game and banged several game mag journalists in exchange for five star reviews. The game was so utterly, shockingly bad, it made people notice. Her boyfriend then blew the whistle in a long letter to the internet. When people started calling out the journo’s, Feminists circled the wagons and screamed chauvinism and the media fell in line. Basically men are afraid of strong women breaking down the doors of the boys club.
