Q3 is generally good for gamestop and the interest from their pile of cash should make it even better, so maybe institutions are expecting earnings to be good. Also you have to wonder, how many institutions have trading algos that are setup to buy shares if certain other institutions are buying shares? I'd imagine that a lot of these funds just automatically buy or short shit if certain circumstances occur. Hence why certain funds get trapped in undesirable positions.
