not to be a brainlet but tf is the point of a hardware wallet?like it's a physical thing that I put my seed phrase into, and it lets me access my wallet. so like my phone/laptop and metamask? I can buy crypto from the trezor app, like metamask?is it just a scam for retards?
It's like a wallet in a browser extension or on your phone except it's way easier to get locked out of
>>59594517it's like a sealed laptop.
Its for retards who cant into security, turns out leaving your seed on your browser, pc or phone isnt secure so this thing holds the seed while still letting you interact with web3 wallets like metamask
>>59594533but if I break or lose it, which might happen, I am locked out until I find another device and enter my seed phrase? like metamask?the fuck am I missing it just seems like an extra point of failure
>>59594517It's easier and more convenient to have a small dedicated hardware wallet for storing and signing rather than a whole ass air-gapped computer.
>>59594517The jews got backdoors into all cpu's so you think you're safe but randomly they'll get someone's seed and empty their wallet, even if they don't have other maleware.
>>59594562When you download lots of tranny porn and hentai games onto your computer you're bound to run into a couple of viruses which could put you at risk of losing your 0.001 BTC and 0.3 ETH
>>59594517hardware wallet keys cannot be extracted without physical access to the wallet. software wallet keys are vulnerable to anything you download that potentially contains malware, or other gaps in your computer's security. >>59594562>I break or lose ityou still have the seed phrase
>>59594517With a model like the trezor T or Safe 5 it generates your keys entirely on device so that you can then physically back them up. I like this because I don't trust a personal computer to ever see my keys. Nearly any other method of creating a wallet will show your keys to your computer atleast once, creating a massive weak link. The most basic of malware could comprimise you from day one.
>>59594524this, i forgot the password of a ledger i had laying around for a year and lost $10k USD because it forced me to reset it after 3 wrong pin attempts. I remembered my code a few minutes later, but it was too late. Had I just used a wallet on my laptop i would have had infinite attempts. Yea, I should have written down my private keys but thats just another risk. What if where it's stored is burglarized or catches fire or floods while I'm away. AVOID
>>59595430all trezors do this, not just the T and model 5
Well you see I got to pay 200 bucks.
>>59595451The trezor one didnt, it has to display your keys on the computer.
>>59594517you can lock your bitcoin at a high price
Are all the posts ITT just bait or are you all genuinely retarded?A hardware wallet is essentially like a small airgapped computer which lets you create a wallet and approve transactions without ever having to expose your private keys to anyone but yourself. That's it, simple and functional. Anyone pretending there's no use is either baiting or retarded
>>59595117but IT has a CPU in it
>>59595449bait or just retarded
>>59595449>I should have written down my private keys but thats just another risk. What if where it's stored is burglarizedYou can write your keys in a coded language>or catches fire or floods while I'm away.Just write it in different places?
>>59595449why do you not keep your keyphrase? just recover the wallet with that. trezor cannot delete your funds from the blockchain retard.
>>59594517I prefer online ones, allow me to trade auradex meme’s more easily
Literally a scam for retards. An air gapped PC is better. I store all my seeds on a raspberry pi using keypass xc.
>>59595449you're supposed to stamp the keyphrase into metal so it's fire and waterproof, and you should be using a multisig wallet and distribute the physical copies of the keys across different geographic locations (maybe one in a bank vault, one in safe at your house, etc). and obviously prepare for your inevitable death by giving copies to loved ones that won't collude against you.
>>59595403hardware wallet keys cannot be extracted without physical access to the wallet.yeah exactly so no advantage over a paper wallet and it's actually much worse as the hardware can contain malware.
>>59595730there's no use because you can just a paper wallet
Question - how can I be sure its safe to download a software wallet? The crypto people on reddit make it seem like anything other than a hardware wallet is a guaranteed way to lose your crypto. Is that true?
I’ve been using the same metamask wallet for the last 4 years. It is what it is
snake oil
>>59597962Its not safe unless you know what ur doing, you clearly dont. Just keep ur coins on coinbase or binance
>>59594517>>59594524>>59595449this thread glows.hardware wallets are essential for safe self-storage and seed generation. everyone who owns more than $150 should buy one for $30-70 to keep it safe. split the seed phrase into multiple pieces and store in multiple locations. dont remember your seed otherwise you can be $5 wrench attacked for it.
>>59598167Literal midwit device that does nothing you cannot do yourself but also allows a company to have access to your mailing address and then conveniently get hacked and leak all your details.

>>59598239>get rekt signing away your hotwallet funds in one of the new DEXesHow do you trade using a HW without connecting it to a dex (assuming the token you want isn’t listed)?
>>59598239It’s not a hot wallet if it’s your only wallet
>>59598300hardware wallet are for coins you want to safely store for long term. you actually have no bitcoin, right? sucks for you.
>>59598300If by HW you mean hardware wallet you probably have a misunderstanding of how they work. They don’t need to connect with the dex
>>59598320is this bait? this makes no sense. kekd and checked.
>>59598331Yea it does nigga. Tell me you just started on crypto without telling me.Hot and cold wallets refer to when you have “cold storage” wallets like paper or hardware, and a hot wallet, likely using something like metamask or phantom, with limited funds to interact with without risking too muchIf you just have one wallet and it’s a risky one that doesn’t make it a hot wallet.

>>59598226Just get it delivered to work or a family members house if you’re that paranoid
>>59594517yes, crypto is a scam
A hardware wallet like Trezor is meant to keep your crypto safe by storing your private keys offline. Your phone or laptop with MetaMask stores keys online, which makes them more vulnerable to hacking or malware. A hardware wallet is essentially a way to protect your crypto from online threats because it never exposes your private keys to the internet. You don't directly buy crypto from the wallet itself, but you can use it with apps like MetaMask to interact with decentralized services. It’s not a scam, it's just an added layer of security, especially if you're holding larger amounts of crypto.
>>59600079yeah but the main point of weakness with any hack is when you connect your wallet to a malicious site or something and gt drained of all your coins. that makes no difference if you are using a hardware wallet or a metamask account. either that or a social engineering scam. the main liability is not what device stores you coins its you
>>59600202>>59600202I don’t connect to malicious shit cos I’m not a bayc holder. The main benefit of a hardware wallet for me is that I value my sleep. My current routine is as follows: I have a shower, get into my clean bedsheets, read a chapter of my book and then write a short summary of the chapter to force myself to absorb what I’m reading because I’m a little slow, but I think reading 1 chapter per night and fully comprehending it puts me ahead of 99% of people in the learning department even as a bit of a midwit. Next I’ll put on my headphones and listen to 20 or 30 minutes of asmr, not just to ogle the beautiful women but I find it helps me relax very deeply, sort of like a lazy man’s meditation. Then if I’m sleepy enough I’ll just go to sleep, if not I’ll allow myself to scroll social media. I usually find that reading some random /x/ posts puts the final nail in the job and gets me to sleep. I do all this without ever once worrying that my computer might have been hacked and I’m going to wake up to find my vast caché of chainlink tokens have been Pajeeted. I get a good night of deep sleep that cleans and refreshes my brain and it’s all thanks to my hardware wallet.
