Hey fellas I'm filled with indecision here. I got some stocks, they're solid good holdings. But it seems I unintentionally fell into the trap of buying high and the price has gone down. Only about 800 in total so not a huge deal but still.I'm not gonna sell and cash out, but I have a different idea. Maybe it would be best if I instead sold at a loss (the short-term cap gains tax deduction is irrelevant for my purposes), and then I simply reallocated that money to something like VOOG or a similar ETF. The thought being that yes these other stocks like UNH or TRV will come back with time, but VOOG would likely outperform that individual stock in that specific amount of time.Think that's a good idea? Or should I just keep holding? The plan either way is to sell them once they're back to a net of 0 and dump that money in VOOG so should I just bite the loss to free up the capital or keep it there till it hits zero? Thanks guys
>>59602317yes I know I said good holdings and intel is there. but i think it'll come back, any day now, just like bed bath and beyond. seriously though i dont think the government would let intel go bankrupt, they'd either get bought out or bailed out and either way the shareholders get off decently there
>>59602331yeah i'm fully aware. but if the goal is to fully reallocate to an etf either way, is it best to just wait for it to go back to 0 before reallocating, or sell at a loss to free up the money to immediately reallocate
>>59602317If you believe they're good stonks then absolutely do not sell and just DCA. You aren't even down that bad -10% is literally nothing.
you can laugh at the name, but EPILEPTIC laughs all the way to the bank. the only coin that turns chaos into green candles
>>59602886i dont think you're a real person
I bought 7dte nvda calls yesterday (bad timing) and I’m up 2%Do I cash out while I’m ahead?
>>59602950flip a coin. heads you sell tails you hold. if you flip heads and feel disappointed, then hold. a coin flip is a good way to go with your gut even if you dont know what your gut actually is. that's what i'd do
>>59602985This is actually pretty good advice
Dont sell
how the fuck are you red? we are up 2% on sp500
>>59602317intel will be a gem within 2 years. With Trump in office watch him push this as the US semiconductor for the general market. I could see this being no less then $50-100 range by the time his term is up
>>59603422that's gain/loss from open, not for day. i bought high thinking it was a steady stable investment D:
>>59602985I held, I was up 13 percent at market closeHeads I let it rideTails I panic sell on market open
Your plans need to include trigger clauses on single stocks for a long time horizon. Eg, you plan to sell in 2039, on such and such date, because that will A) keep you from watching prices and trading and B) take advantage of any compoundingAn overall investment plan needs to include these things. I would never sell at a loss except where the underlying is beyond hope and there are gains that can be offset for tax purposes. I would treat these investments as a learning experience. Your next investments should not exceed the buy in for these ($800) until you gain more confidence that the stocks you picked are the right ones for the right price. Always look at your track record for an indication of your talents for execution or picks. Ie., most people will prove over time they're not good at both and you need to be good at both to have any real confidence. The market will teach you whether or not you're any good, it doesn't discriminate. As you find out you're not so good at stock picking or execution (this is reality for over 95% of investors), the logic of very long term time horizons and modest positions, and interval buy-in will become more clear .
buy ETFs instead my boy. stocks are random and gay.
>>59603955that's what im doing, switching to GLRY and VOOG so i can feel somewhat ethical and because a good friend who has a very sizeable wealth has told me to just dump money into an s&p etf and let it ride>>59603938Yeah there's gains I could offset but I don't wanna be one of those "spend a dollar to save a penny" type of tax guys yknow? but yeah nah i get you man, just need to practice more. at first i was obsessed with dividends and was buying insane stocks like chinese guangdong mining companies till i realized that this is stupid and i should just buy normal stocks. my strat has been to just settle on blue chip stocks, avoid FAANG, and if i see some stock shot up a ton today to buy a bit and sell the next day since there's usually a little splurge of activity the next day I can cool off on except biotech lel. But yeah nah I don't have the patience to analyze fundamentals. I can read a balance sheet and calculate some ratios since I took a few accounting classes in college, but I don't care enough to do that for every pick. So I'll probably just dump into a low-fee etf and let it sit forever.essentially i think i am too lazy and retarded to research stocks myself so ill just say "seems good enough ill put a grand in that" or whatever and dump most of it in etfs
>>59602317I’d sell everything and dump the proceeds into Fartcoin.
Only a real /biz/raeli would lose in a market this easy. Godspeed anon, not everyone can be a winner.
