the median net worth of a person under 35 is $20,000 when you exclude home equity

And that's in the US alone right? now imagine the net worth of people in South america, Africa, asia etc lol
It would make the "average Murrican" with 20k seem mega rich in comparison.
>>
And why would you exclude home equity

which is what you'd expect when the money isn't real and loses so much value every year

houses are treated as assets because of economic tricks but I would argue the first house (the one you live in) doesn't count in a realistic sense. Assets are fundamentally supposed to be things that allow you to generate wealth like tools or resources you can exploit and it's a bit of a messy definition to be exploiting the fact that you're not dying of exposure. It just has never sat right with me.

The wealth divide is staggering.
Most people will not earn one million USA dollars in their entire life.
There are millions of people to whom one million USA dollars is pocket change... they would not even notice it being gone.

Pic related made sense 40 years ago. Nowadays, it's equivalent to $1M.

The first hundred thousand is the hardest
The first million is the longest
The second million is most satisfying

I keep track of my net worth on a website, and you can see other members net worth and how it's allocated. That's when I realized most people's net worth is tied up in non liquid assets like their home and retirement fund. When your remove those, they don't really have that much even though their net worth is in the millions. You can tell they are living basic middle class lives.
Then you have the LARPers with assets worth a large number with lots of zeros, which is implausible. Like the guy with exactly $32,000,000 in stocks and only exactly $5,000 in cash. Ignoring all the zeros, nobody with that value of stocks will only have 5k in cash. It's like some 12 year old kid or some retard made an account to try to impress strangers.

That's a low miles Toyota Corolla. They should exclude vehicles for the same reason as houses.
