https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_trollHave you guys heard of companies that exist to sue people for vague patents? Patent Trolls, like uniloc, sue small companies and tie them up in court until they go bankrupt. I found out the bitcoin mining company marathon was a patent troll company while doing research. These companies basically kill innovation to make lawyers rich on fees and companies on settlements.https://youtu.be/c4NIFzG8NcU

>>59616763Coffee Meets Bagel. They had an event at my old job ages ago where they basically got a bunch of paid influencers (largely women) to hang in the same space as socially awkward men. It was painfully obvious who was paid to be there and who paid to attend based on their physical appearance alone
>>59616658Actual patent attorney here. Every plaintiff is a "patent troll" according to assholes who infringe other people's patents.I've dealt with one legitimate "patent troll", a Chinese idiot who tried to claim he had invented the technology that a whole bunch of legitimate manufacturers had developed years ago. I completely destroyed his patent through filing for reexamination and showing that Microsoft had the tech nearly a decade before the Chinese guy filed his patent applications. And I guess there was also Craig Wright, who is now on the run from the Bongistani government over his various perjuries.Meanwhile, Apple is being forced to stop selling some of its watches because of infringement on blood oxygen level sensor tech that was patented by another company, which Apple tried to ignore and stonewall and refuse to pay royalties to.Overall, the system works just fine.

>>59618954Just the opposite of what you say, you double nigger. I protect inventors' rights so that after they've spent millions on R&D, some Chinsect can't just duplicate their product and sell it at just above manufacturing costs, destroying the inventors and their investors.Post nose and hands.

>>59620609If you're looking to get into litigation rather than the patent prosecution side of things, then your degree doesn't matter at all.For patent prosecution, not really. There isn't a hell of a lot of work for straight chemistry majors, you would need a Ph.D. for patent law. Same with biology, due to the oversupply a Ph.D. is the minimum. The main bio thing is small molecule biochemistry, other sorts of biology aren't all that useful. For engineering disciplines, EE was king a decade ago, not sure about now because so much work has shifted into the software side. Firms think that EE can do anything CS can do, so CS majors used to be an also-ran, but I think that may be shifting. For any CS people who see this, it's important that your school be ABET accredited for CS. Mine wasn't. Fucking DeVry is accredited, but my top-20 research university's program believes its reputation stands on its own. I had to jump through a shitload of hoops to be allowed to take the patent bar and even so, firms looked down on me because I had to apply through the "category B" path instead of the ABET-accredited "category A".
you think that's bad, there are lawyers you go around suing website owners for not making their websites "handicapped accessible". like if you use the wrong colors or don't label your images the right way, you can get sued.
