Since a lot of the things that break are electronics boards, and the software on the microcontrollers is copyrighted, Tesla is the sole source for these parts and it isn't possible for there to be an aftermarket supplier to compete on them. The only alternative is to go cannibalize a wreck in a junkyard, and there aren't many of those (especially ones that didn't get burned up). People have waited months for repairs, gotten charged thousands for something really simple and cheap to manufacture, and generally been fucked hard.
