The U.S. essentially declared economic war on, and insulted, the entire world in a material and tangible way. Even its closest friends, Milei and Netanyahu, were raped by 10% tariffs. The goal being to get these nations to capitulate on trade policy and submit to the U.S. entirely. So it is, and will probably be interpreted as, a crass attack on their sovereignty and yet another reason to avoid dependence on trade with the U.S. because there is not only a sanctions risk but now a tariff risk that they will flip the table if they're not "winning" at any given moment in balance of trade. The diplomatic and economic credibility of the U.S. has never been lower than at this moment.

Putin and Xi must look like prophets to the majority of the world for having organized BRICS+ years in advance of this clusterfuck.

The most obvious thing to do here is short. The only thing that might hurt you is a relief rally that has zero chance of lasting because this administration actively is seeking to crash the market and they can do it at will. Trump can just come out and say "we're doing 200% tariffs on every country" and the market gets deleted almost instantly.

I also had options paper trading in the background that went +400%. I'm just not too familiar with IV yet to do this kind of trade. I thought that after the tariffs announcement IV could go down and crush the value of these options EVEN if the value of the underlying went in my favor, so I didn't jump at the opportunity.
I find options fascinating though. Every paper trade I made but 1 turned out positive, and the one that wasn't positive was neutral, not even a loss.

What's funny is that the market is still assuming that these crazy tariffs are just a negotiating tactic. People think he's isn't going to go through with it and I sort of agree. >>
>>60116088
You're not gonna find enough Americans willing to do farm work at all to replace all the spics, the industry could not bear the cost of raising wages to a point where Americans would be willing to do it.

>>
>>60116027
In defense of the overall idea they're after, there is an enormous amount of manufacturing and production that has emigrated from the US to cheaper land as a result of the decades worth of free trade barriers and economic policy designed around "bigger number better" and "line must go up" that presidents have been doing dating back to even the original George H W Bush.
America being reliant on sweatshop labor a thousand miles from home (which is a physical barrier for development in and of itself) is genuinely not healthy for a self-sufficient economy, which it isn't at this point.

That said I ain't gonna defend much more than that because their way of going about solving it has been cartoonish.

>>
>>60116150
>For the right amount of money anybody will do any job you like.
Do you think American consumers will be willing to pay the prices that will result if every spic working for $2.5/hr is replaced by an American working for $45/hr (Farm work being FAR more uncomfortable and physically demanding than a job at Costco)

American agriculture already needs subsidies up the fucking ass to stay afloat.
