alright, gonna repeat my posts here cause it generated interesting discussion in the last thread and still no one has replied to my standalone thread here - >>60159131

Doordash is the only stock I still own. I cashed out my 401k a couple months ago after getting fired from my previous job (I was a low level corporate employee at Doordash).

Because I was a low level corporate employee who was paid hourly instead of salary, I was NOT eligible for stock benefits as part of my compensation. Nevertheless, when I got hired in early 2023, I spent about 2k purchasing stock and bought some more over the year. My average buy price was $80 per share. The all time high was $240 per share, shortly after it went public at the end of the pandemic in 2021.

Recently, Doordash finally achieved profitability status since launching in 2013. They were profitable in both Q3 and Q4 of 2024. As a result of this, the stock went up to over $210 after the most recent earnings report was released in February of this year. I almost sold but I was waiting for it to touch or surpass all time high.

Since then, there has really only been good news for the company. They've announced more partnerships with Domino's, Dollar General, and of course the Klarna buy now/pay later deal that got significant media attention. They still have well over 50% of the entire delivery market in the US for food/grocery, and they've been expanding into new verticals for the past few years now with their own Dashmart convenience stores, partnering with brick and mortal retail shops for delivery, offering package delivery service, and more.

Yet, despite that good news, the stock has taken a tumble with the wider market sentiments. It was dipped from $210 in February to $163 as of Friday April 4th. I understand the market works this way, but it is frustrating.

Regardless, I am here to ask for financial advice. I am not inclined to sell tomorrow, but I am considering setting a stop loss of sorts. What annoys me is that the business fundamentals are good, and Doordash should not be affected much by tariffs. Restaurants and grocery stores are not going to increase their prices due to tariffs on manufactured goods from China or wherever. To me, it seems like Doordash should be insulated heavily from the tariff policies, in contrast to say Amazon or Apple, who utterly depend on foreign manufacturing for their business model.

Nevertheless, I'm up 100%, and I really don't want to hold this stock til I'm back to break even or at a loss. What does /biz/ think about stocks like Doordash/Uber/Lyft and other gig app stocks are service sector stocks and thus not directly affected by tariffs?

Someone rate my AI assistant's prediction of what would happen if ~40% tariffs were shit out by executive order:

The U.S. imposing 40% tariffs globally—even on allies—would trigger immediate retaliation (e.g., EU/Canada/Japan targeting agriculture, tech), cutting exports and spiking inflation via import costs (electronics, autos +3–5% CPI). Multinationals (Apple, Ford) and retailers (Walmart) face earnings drops; S&P 500 could plunge ~15%. Short-term "winners" like steel/aluminum sectors gain little due to input-cost inflation. Medium-term, trade deficits persist (2018–2020 tariffs increased China deficit by $20B) as exports fall faster than imports. Supply chains fracture (auto/tech relocations to Vietnam/India lag, raising costs), while USD weakens 10–15% if allies diversify from dollar reserves. Long-term risks: stagflation (1970s-style inflation + stagnation), slowed innovation from deglobalization (WTO: -7% global GDP), and NATO erosion. Historically, Smoot-Hawley (1930) deepened the Depression via 66% trade collapse.

You are here:
>S&P 500 could plunge ~15%.
>USD weakens 10–15% if allies diversify from dollar reserves.

I´m so fucking salty that only Amerifats can access this site and bet there. You can read the policies, the tax cuts are literally going to increase the deficit, it´s literally that simple! Only way the deficit actually gets smaller is if inflation gets so bad that all the debt gets paid off with USD worth less than toilet paper, but then my 2000 euro bet isn´t going to be a big deal in the bigger picture.

>Sell if you think it's overvalued and hold it if you think it's undervalued.

This is what's hard. I definitely do not think Doordash is overvalued, at all, but I'm not sure I would say it is undervalued either, especially depending on how the wider economy goes. Whatever happens though, as a former internal employee, I know they are doing everything possible as a company to maximize profits. Outside the software engineers and high level execs, no one else working there even in corporate makes very much money, at all. I worked there for 3 years as a supply chain specialist and only made $22 per hour, and that was with 2 raises. The company finally turned a profit last year and I know they are absolutely determined to keep that going. They are still focused on growth of course but they're not spending wildly to grow like they were in 2020-2022. They're pretty methodical and conservative in their projections now, or at least they were when I left at the end of 2024.

My only really confident assumption is that I think they will perform similarly to Alcohol and other "vice" based stocks. If things get bad, people will turn to fast food and food delivery just like they turn to alcohol and sex and drugs to cope with declining wages or economic instability.

>The revenue growth looks good, the PE does not. It’s actually atrocious. You are either early in the next big thing or in a dud. Nobody here has the power to tell you which.

DD has been around since 2013. I don't think it's the next big thing, but I do think that it is here to stay as a company. To be honest, if I had this in my 401k, or I was just planning to accumulate long term stocks and never sell until my retirement, I wouldn't be worried about this at all. Internally, as a former corporate employee I can say this (well, not legally since I signed an NDA when I took severance but fuck it), Doordash basically is gunning to be one the next big tech companies. Managerially, the model themselves after Amazon and their poach a lot of analysts and employees from Amazon corporate. Both are in delivery and logistics but in different ways. Obviously, Amazon isn't delivering food from restaurants or retail stores, but Doordash is.

I think the long term bullish case for Doordash is autonomous delivery. If they can crack delivery by drone or self-driving car, then the stock will explode in value. This is because by far the greatest expense for Doordash is paying the Dashers who actually use their cars to deliver the food. If they can cut them out, even just partially, and utilize autonomous delivery vehicles, then I can easily see the stock going to over $1000 a share assuming a stable economy. But realistically that wouldn't happen for another 5-10 years

The thing is that Trump really believes in tariffs and so does Vance apparently. But Trump has been talking about tariffs ever since the 1980s when we truly embraced "free trade" and started outsourcing the fuck out of our economy and importing shit from Japan and other countries. He was calling it out way back then, and he was right.

Plus, Trump is serving his second term. He doesn't have to worry about being re-elected anymore. Remember all the baneposting from 2014, and how it led to Trump's election in 2016? He's crashing this plane with no survivors

I think this characterization of the president as being untouchable just because he's in his second term is all wrong. POTUS is not all powerful, he is beholden to his party and to the government. There will be an internal counter to this. The lack of statements to that effect indicate to me they are trying to keep it as quiet as possible before it's put in to effect.

>POTUS is not all powerful, he is beholden to his party and to the government. There will be an internal counter to this. The lack of statements to that effect indicate to me they are trying to keep it as quiet as possible before it's put in to effect.

We have a lame duck Congress. Has Trump even asked them to pass any meaningful legislation so far? No, not really. Representatives and Senators have largely abdicated their constitutional responsibilities over the years. They're happy to show up, get a fatty paycheck, get insider trading info, get on some committees, and then rant and rave for media attention while they take more money from lobbyists and foreign actors. They don't fucking care and they haven't cared in decades. Trump understands this, that's why he's doing everything by executive order and not listening to judges.

There aren't enough Democrats in Congress to stop him from doing anything. And Trump himself is far more popular with the Republican base than any Senator or Congressman. Any Republican who stands up against Trump will be primaried by a more Trumpian candidate. Americans literally stormed the Capitol and risked insurrection and civil war cause they thought the election was rigged against Trump. Is there any other political figure in the past 50 years that you think anyone on either side would do that for besides Trump? That's the power he has

If Trump's successful, and Republicans do nothing to oppose him, then those Republicans will be rewarded by constituents for helping Trump, and they'll get re-elected. If they attempt to oppose Trump, they'll likely lose no matter what. Either Trump will still be successful, and they'll look like beta faggots, or Trump will fail in his efforts, but then those who stood against him will be blamed for slowing things down and contributing to the failure, and they'll still probably be primaried by an America First style candidate. The only winning move for Congressmen right now is not to play

No, not really. Russia has a full spectrum of natural resources from diamonds to lumber and titanium. Oil is just one of them. Well, they'll find pennies elsewhere if they have to. China is going to cut the U.S. out from its economic calculus and Russia will be the first candidate for import substitution and expanding economic ties. We will begin to see a direct trade in semiconductors between the two, building of foundries in Russia, and what would be best for Russia would be direct Chinese military sales and supply to it which would win Ukraine very quickly.

If China took up production of Geran drones, we would see swarms of 20,000 launched on Ukraine every night.

Nah, protectionism will have to kick in.

Look at china flooding the EV market, it's killing the EU motor manufacturers. With the US out of the picture, it'll be even more important to avoid that happening in other industries.

>what would be best for Russia would be direct Chinese military sales and supply to it which would win Ukraine very quickly.
I'm not sure why you would think that, the Russia has held a theoretically decisive materiel advantage over Ukraine since the start of the war and it hasn't helped them any, more materiel will extend the duration of the war, but it wont change the outcome

Equipment stockpiles are genuinely near critical levels. If the war continues at the current rate they will be out of almost everything by the years end, leaving just what they have in their army and the little they can build

what, exactly, are their options?
you'll see derisking and asset dumps onto the fed within 3 months, or you'll see further escalation of an already bad situation and nuclear austerity, and you're seriously betting the latter?
>>
>>60162369
don't worry, if you keep DCA then you will come out fine in a couple of years
a dump at the start of investing is actually the best possible outcome, it means your first and oldest shares will have the lower cost basis possible
