I was just dipping my toes into the stock market in 1987 when the stock market fell 28% in 3 hours, the NYSE literally had to pull the plug on the computers to halt trading because 3 hours in to the trading session the sell volume was so high the computers had a backlog of 5 hours of trades they hadn't even gotten to yet.
