Hello new fren.
I'll answer to the best of my ability and in order.
>Is silver just the poor man's gold?
Yes, but it is good to have some too.
>In what case would it benefit me to buy silver if i can afford gold coins instead?
The historic and natural ratio of silver to gold is about 10 to 1, currently it's been artificially supressed to 100 to 1, so silver has a lot of room to grow and you can buy it relatively cheap now. another benefit is that if it comes to it, silver can be used to make small purchases like groceries in an hyperinflation scenario.
>is it better to buy in bar form or coin form?
sovereign coins are better than rounds and rounds are better than bars, since sovereign coins (minted by a state) are considered legal tender, they pay less taxes when buying and selling them in some countries and won't give you trouble while going through customs if you are crossing borders. also bars are easier to counterfeit and more difficult to test for autenticity using non invasive methods.
>if i actually want to convert to cash again, i'd have to physically bring it to some shop right? my autism will make that difficult.
take your fucking meds or try to sell them online, I have a friend who set up his own e-coin shop and sells PMs there, you can also sell them on ebay but they will rape you with the comission. just take your meds and sell them in a coinshop if that time comes.
TLDR: buy gold coins and also silver coins, preferably Krugerrands, Maples, British Sovereigns, Brittanias, Phillarmonics, Eagles and Libertads. buy ounces of silver and 1/4 ounces of gold if possible. if you are stacking as an investment avoid rare or fancy coins leave the numismatic rarities to collectors. go for well-known coins and try to get them for as close as possible to spot value.

Got it for a quarter of the usual price, which made me very happy, but now i have it in hand i understand why. It's so bad the incuse writings on the edge is almost entirely gone. Will post some pics later itt. Why do ppl do this to their coins? :(

Which agencies are despatching officers to locate these possible treasure troves? The secret service? The FBI? The IRS? There's tens of millions of doors to kick in. That sounds more like fighting a counterinsurgency than doing something "easily" done.

the 1933 prohibition on ownership of gold involved almost no confiscations. They did the same thing with machine guns. They just made it illegal and then people turned it in on their own. Those that didn't turn it in died with it and their kids turned it in.
If someone managed to hold gold from 1933 to 1975 they were free and clear. Just a lot older by then.

Also in case you're actually interested, I was alive when gold was illegal. All my family had gold. The problem is you can get the stuff out of the dirt. So it's impossible to actually confiscate it. It's pretty much everywhere and anyone that wants to can go get some. My earliest memories of panning gold were when it was illegal.

Just like back then, it's almost impossible to police the wilderness. Modern rangers are in trucks, on foot, on 4wheelers, maybe on horses. But go a mile away from the trail or the road and not only will they never see you, nobody will. People now are scared shitless of stepping off the trails, so you can do pretty much whatever you want if you get back into the woods a ways.

it's hard to lug all that into the wilderness without attracting attention
>>
>>60262264
nah, a shovel and a screen and a pan are about all I need that's not normal camping gear.
I mostly stick to legal sites though. No point breaking the law when most of the gold is legal to pan anyways.
>>
>>60262264
When I don't feel like sneaking in to pan I'll just take my truck out in the woods and bring the dirt home to me. I can haul a couple tons of good gold dirt if it's rich enough to be worth the time. Then I get it home and dump it in the yard and pan it with the garden hose.

I've gotten a few ounces over the years that way. Just find some good dirt and drive off with it. It's not like someone is going to notice a couple yards of missing dirt.

I don't think so, the same people that are scared of going off trail are probably scared of getting a ticket for panning.

It's a dying hobby. You're usually out of cell phone range, no video games to play. The only way it's coming back is if we have another depression.

all the old knowledge of skills and locations is carefully guarded by people like me and Pan Man. We don't tell people our spots. It takes a lifetime to learn what we know, and nobody else is seriously going to catch up to us in a month or even a year.

So, that puts US junk quarters and half dollars at 1:28.9 GSR against AGEs.
1:30.9 GSR against peace dollars.
>>60264744
Switzerland is a little different. A Swiss 20 Franc is 1:14.36 against 2 Francs.
>>60264751
1:19.38 GSR against 1922-1923 Swiss 5 Francs.
>>60264757
And lastly 1:10.78 against 1931-1969 5 Francs.
So what does this mean. Obviously the GSR should be way lower than 1:90+, but let's average the GSRs I've provided:

(28.9+30.9+14.36+19.38+10.78)/5 = 20.864.

If we take that GSR and take from golds current spot price of $3,238.82 that means silver should at least be $155.23 USD.

So we're looking at a potential 5x with silver, assuming gold is at it's peak, which it's not. Worst case scenario, silver crabs forever and you only lose out on potential gains, while maintaining wealth. Seems like a good place to park your money while the stock market shits itself. Also, if we're in the moonshot scenario, it means the layman has begun to see the value in PMs, which means that it will be easy to use them for bartering, which means no capital gains.

>The historic GSR has always been 1:20.
https://www.longtermtrends.net/gold-silver-ratio/
Mmm... In recent history (18th, 19th centuries) it was steady around 15:1 (Gold:Silver ratio) and was fixed at that by the US in 1792. This same article states the ratio was fixed at 2:1 by the Roman Empire. That and the fact the pic related chart meme shows SGR (not GSR as titled) leads me to be skeptical about the meme, but 'always' 20:1 is a fiction.

>$20 Gold Eagle to $1 ASE is 1:22
No, not really. Going by current prices for eagles on Bullion Exchanges a 2025 is $37.54 and contains a full ozt. The "$20 Gold Double Eagle Liberty Head Type II - Polished or Cleaned (Random Year, 1866-1876)" goes for $3,185.72, which at 0.9675 ozt means it's $3,292.73/ozt, and that GSR is 87.7:1. BE's listed spot for the two are $3,251 and $32.54, a GSR of 99.9:1.

Yes but that was natural gold and electrum up to Rome then debased gold during Rome and that was all a silver standard. Finding the americas was how it stayed down with the Spanish silver standard and then the British pound sterling. The US coinage act of 1792 established this ratio based on the geological ratio of silver to gold as 15:1. Also why we had the first gold standard because Isaac Fucking Newton set the GSR ratio too low in 1717 and. Abused it to go out of circulation. We are on the precipice of this same scenario.

Yeah, but if anything, silver is significantly more valuable to the modern world than the old world. It's used in solar panels, computers, and military applications. And it's not like it's become comparatively easier to find than gold has. The historical ratio ought to be seen as the upper limit of what's reasonable.

Who do you think is more correct:

- someone who monitors mining and consumption activity and foresees a trend emerging and bases a move on that?
I'm saying GSR is changed by events - not that events are changed by the GSR. Relying on GSR is backwards.

Hold moly they are dumping silver crash in 3 2 1
>>
>>60265373
Well I'm no fancy scientist (though actually I am technically an engineer), but my immediate thoughts reading your greentext are:

>steam-assisted drilling
>mine dewatering
>improved haulage
>handle larger volumes of material
all seem like improvements that would equally benefit gold mining, so would have zero impact on the GSR

>enhanced ability to separate silver from other ores
seems like the only one that's relevant.

But it still seems like a completely unnecessary point to bring up, because you're basically talking about issues that are upstream from the actually relevant data which is how much usable gold and silver is there above ground and how has that changed throughout history. From what I've heard others say the ratio is something like 9:1 silver to gold, right? So I don't see how that means a 15:1 ratio is unreasonable, especially with all the other considerations I brought up in my initial post, which are further illustrated by the recent silver deficits that the other anon mentioned.

You assert that you know the future, whereas levelheaded people say "We'll have to wait and see"
>>
>>60266026
What is to be explained here? It's a past performance metric, not a pythiac oracle decided by the Moirai while weaving destiny or some immuable law of physics. 150 years ago aluminum was more expensive than gold, and look at where we are today.
Do you also believe the alu:gold ratio will correct back to it's historic mean?

And don't get me wrong, i do believe the G:S will correct very drastically, otherwise i wouldn't have 100% of my net worth in it, but not because of some ancient untold law of men. We have far more bullish metrics allowing us to believe so. Silver is the metal of fast tech, and nothing can stop the technogical progress of mankind. We needed 100K years to conquer fire, then 10K years to master agriculture, then 1K years to develop writing, 100 years to have electricity, 10 years to make internet, and now we double our chips density every 2 years. Now we entered the last phase of the Kali Yuga, progress will only speed up, and for that silver is/will be a key element.

No one claims to know the future like a mystical psychic would, that's obviously ridiculous. But anyone who makes an investment is essentially gambling that their read on the future is correct. The discussion around the GSR is relevant to silver investing because it lends credence to the idea that the silver price is being manipulated downward. There are plenty of other reasons to believe this, no one is relying entirely on the GSR, it just provides a good way to evaluate what the silver price might be in a world with no price manipulation. These arguments have been posted over and over again on /pmg/, so I find it hard to believe that you're not aware of them. Why not provide some counter points? Ironically, you're the one who isn't engaging in critical thinking here. You're just shutting down discussion and name calling.

Not him, but if so, i'd rather use the mining ratio as a predictive metric, which obviously also happen to be close to the G:S ratio. It's simple logic to believe something mined at an 1:8 ratio can't stay at 1:100 pricing, especially when one of the two have 60% of it's supply destroyed by industrials needs each year.
But it's important to remember the main driver of prices isn't logical, it's an agreement upon men (and by that i mean their highest figures of authority) that gold would be the de facto element to be used as a store of wealth for mankind.
And there is no "pure" logic to that, it's a social construct. If tomorrow morning all central banks (current highest authority figures) announced they are ditching gold to replace it with silver, then most people would follow suit. But we can't apply brut numbers to social constructs, this is why the price action defy the mathematical logic we created for our mooning arguments.

Gold price is fueled by fear, silver too, but not nearly as much. And as the current world order is being totally reshaped, gold is the big winner here, it would still be even if the mining ratio suddently became 1:1.
>>
>>60266274
> These arguments have been posted over and over again on /pmg/, so I find it hard to believe that you're not aware of them.
I'm aware and I find it entertaining that the thesis cannot be succinctly explained such that newfags can understand while btfoing the shills, so anons just post the same string of infographs and walls of text made over 3 years ago
>>
>>60266428
I agree, my thinking is that if we assume that going forward gold becomes the accepted store of wealth as you say, then I think it will become too expensive for normies, unless something like goldbacks take off, which I wouldn't count on. In that case, silver becomes the next best thing, especially with it being constitutionally enshrined as legal tender. So I would expect a bump among silver even if the big boys went out of their way to never touch it.
>>
>>60266496
indeed, at 3.2K it's already unobtanium for many, which is bullish for Ag.
>>
>>60266525
I make 6 figures and it's already too expensive for me to properly stack. I could do 1oz a month, which would mean it would take me over a year and a half to get 1 tube of buffalos. Whereas now, I can comfortably stack 100oz of silver a month, which is a monster box every 5 months, almost 2 and a half a year.

Of course, as the ratio of currencies increases, it must.

I move rationally, not irrationally, see the word ratio hidden in the word rationally? Because it's rational or specific, not speculative or emotional. The blood flow to my penis doesn't change the facts of supply/demand or surplus/deficit.
