How were Chips and Smartphones etc now automatically exempt on wednesday when
1. he delayed all tariffs but the 10% baseline?
2. it was his intention to have a specific/special tariffs for them anyways from the getgo?

He could then and there just exempt these things, and nobody would have really thought that caved to China.

But he didn't, because he didn't expect China to go on raising tariffs and this thing escalating to +100%. And now he was forced to exempt them due to the reality of things that China has too much power in that regard. And everybody now has to assume this exemption is PURELY because of this escalation.

What a strategic fuckin retard.

>>
>>60262323
The 20% is what he is intending (25% I think it is).

But I also just found this thanks to AI:

https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/trump-says-semiconductor-tariffs-will-start-at-25-keep-rising-over-the-year/

>February 19, 2025 By Charlotte Trueman

>US President Donald Trump has said that he will impose tariffs on semiconductors within the coming weeks.

>When asked about the rate of the tariffs, Trump said: “It’ll be 25 percent and higher, and it’ll go very substantially higher over the course of a year.”

>He added: “When they come into the United States, and they have their plant or factory here, there is no tariff.”

>On average, it takes around three to four years to build a new chip fab. Furthermore, a 2023 report from the Semiconductor Industry Association estimates that by 2030 as production in the US ramps up, around 58 percent of predicted new jobs across semiconductor manufacturing and design risk being unfilled.

>In January 2025, Trump pledged to “return production” of computer chips and semiconductors to the United States by imposing a “100 percent tax” on their overseas production, claiming that tariffs would incentivize companies to manufacture chips in the US instead of Taiwan.
>>
https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/trump-says-that-chip-tariffs-are-starting-very-soon

>"The chips [tariffs] are starting very soon and the pharma is going to be starting to come in […] sometime in the near future," said President Trump at a White House briefing.

>Earlier this year, Trump threatened to impose 25%, 50%, or 100% tariffs on semiconductors produced in Taiwan but remained quiet after TSMC committed to investing an additional $100 billion in its production capacity and an R&D center in the U.S.

>However, after the sweeping tariffs imposed on goods from Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan made chipmaking tools 20%—32% more expensive for American chip producers and, therefore, increased their costs, it is logical for the U.S. government to impose tariffs on foreign semiconductors to somewhat level their competitive advantages over domestic chips in the American market.

They'd never. If they planned to do so they'd speak to him behind closed doors so he could try to save face by undoing the tariffs himself rather than appear to have a divided house/senate.

I am a trump fan. I don't want him to walk back anything, that is like the worst of both worlds. You issue a threat and then walk it back, that is not leverage
The maga cope I've come up with in my own mind is that he made some kind of deal with china which hasn't been announced yet. but then why announce a walk back on the top 3 exports from china to usa... if they don't announce anything?
Is this an off ramp for china, to claim they won? Seems like the kinda just... won.
It's not a good look.
However, I'm willing to hear an explanation before I pass judgment. It just better be a damn good explanation.

if you are good at analyzing politics, you can still figure out what the truth is from politicians statements. It just gets more difficult because they lie all the time
I'm not implying I'll just take whatever trump says at face value. If it's not a good answer, I'll assume the trump team is full of shit and just caved. Which is NOT good
But, if they have an answer that is actually sensible and seems real, then that's something else and definitely what I prefer.
Best case scenario is bessent comes out and explains it.

He planned special tariffs for semis and other electronics from the beginning. But now exempting them looks bad after initiating a tariffwar with China. If he at least reduced the rates right now. That will be the next narrative for you to consume, but I'm not buying defense stocks as I don't think that war will break out, and if it does it would be fought through Israel. I think the question for the markets is whether Xi will back off or if it's finally go time for him. China apparently views the entire purpose of the tariffs as crippling China (and not without reason) and we should apparently be looking for asymmetric forms of retaliation (bond dumping, very targeted export controls etc)

It's a chink bot basically
That kind of map would only be produced internally by china. It's a propaganda map basically
So that tells me china wants taiwan (no news there), but also taijikistan and kyrgistan? Very very interesting. for what reason?
to get closer to pakistan since they are closer "allies" now? To get closer to iranistan and more oil?
It's to get closer to the middle east of course. They already border kazakhstan so this land grab won't help them connect there.

oh, and now that I think about it, this is pretty obviously an extension of their activities of taking over and replacing the uyghars in kashgar.
So they want to go even further??? Damn that's crazy. So kashgar was just step one in china's plan to, what, conquer and control more land in the middle east? expand westward in that direction... hmm

is anyone expecting tech to rally on Monday with the tariff exemption news? I know they're still on the hook for 20% tariffs, but that's a lot less than 145%. My plan is to load up Sunday night at 8pm and then sell off before market opens Tuesday, because I think the rest of the week is going to be a bloodbath.

So, as an Eurofag, how do I profit from Trump cucking out during our open tomorrow?
I can buy leveraged Nvidia ETN/ETP, maybe the pemarket won't have completely reflected how much it will go up for US' open, but what do I know.
I can also buy Nvidia shares on Germany's Xetra, but the liquidity is so low.
I hate fucking missing the Friday insider trading. I hate that chips and electronics are likely still subject to a specific set of tariffs that should be announced later, same for pharma, but at this point no one will care and it will just go up anyway.

QE Infinity...But not for the reasons you think.

While DXY is on the way down from jumping off the cliff, which suggest a surplus of USD bloating the system (i.e. lack of demand in want for Francs ect.), if you look at I/R swap spreads, which are reaching terminal velocity downwards (and have already been negative since '08 thanks to Basel III) supercedes the notion and indicates an imminent liquidity crunch.

And no, confidence in U.S. insitutions is already bankrupt, it cannot be stopped. The FED MUST print or the U.S. market gets rugpulled at the foundation of the casino.

>Bearish news is acktually bullish hurr durr JPOW will NEVER pivot

Ok, use crypto for the exchange of goods and services then, since there are no USDs left in the system! I assure you, hyperdeflation is worse than hyperinflation.

You can also tell this is happening on supplementary metrics, because Trump has announced he's buying crypto with gold instead of...shocker, USD!

Prep the golden bull.

The whole market doesn't know, and many indications lead to people generally acting on the basis of fear. What I think/feel is that most are either looking to exit when their bag hits the greens or they are just blissfully hoping for infinite pumping. There are some good articles about the geopolitical situation, US consumer finances, hedge fund margin calls etc. that can give you some insights to make your own assesments...
Even the 1,5% pump of last friday was extremely sus when you take into account that the value of USD kept falling at pretty much the same rate, invalidating the pump into a nothingburger in the real sense.
So I think investing now is compteting against baggies who are looking to exit. I'm not gonna, just not gonna I'm sorry!!!
I also quite frankly don't really care right now, when the circus ends then perhaps but not rn. I'm a pussy but it's okay.

The pharma tariffs is where things will get interesting imo because of how complicated it is between the US and Europe. Rumour is that Trump is going to do something incredibly sensible for the US by demanding an international price on pharma products sold in the US market.

>US cost of drugs goes down and with it the revenue for R&D where the US still dominates IP
>Euro cost of drugs goes up when the continents health services are creaking

Generally the factories themselves operate in-market because of the differences between US-EU regulation on things like packaging but the nature of the pharma market is about to change entirely.

Since I've already asked this thread for advice on this matter...
I'm looking to buy a property in a specific neighborhood where homes rarely become available. There's only one on the market, and to afford it at its listed price I would have to:
>borrow £700k
>on a 40-year mortgage
>with 2-year fixed rate
This would leave about £1.3k GBP a month for other expenses for a couple and a baby. Job has room for growth but is in a layoff-prone industry and spouse will make about half of what I do upon returning to work in a couple years.
Would you do it, or would you wait for a more affordable home to come on sale? I need to buy relatively soon since the value of the USD, and as such my down-payment, is going down the toilet.

If you want an interesting Central Asian politics thought: When the Xinjiang situation escalated the stans started handing out passports to their ethnic communities living in China to both signal that they cared about what happened to their brethren and to give them an escape if they started getting squeezed. The Uyghurs don't have a nation-state of their own so they're at the mercy of wherever they flee to - Turkey treats them well and hosts political exiles while Thailand keeps them in overcrowded prisons and pressures them into signing documents to allow their return to China.

1.3k is more than enough after you get a roof over your head and it's incredibly hard to lose a home when you fuck up. I'd question why you want to pay 700k for a first home though unless you're locked in with the location due to work.

>I need to buy relatively soon

Good luck with that mortgage application. There's no way you'll be getting the keys in under 6 months even if you pay all the sudden 'express lane' fees that appear, skimp on the survey and the various middle-men feel like doing their job for absolutely no benefit to them.
>>
I just checked ferrari stock price on us and euro exchanges, the stock is - 1.3% in eu and + 1.3% in us. I assume its because the dollar got devalued? So that means the pump we had on friday was just dollar shitting the bed? Does that mean sp500 will drop if usd strengthtens, how do i take advantage of this situation?
>>
>>60263886
>Why would the EU not tell him to just go fuck himself?

Nobody can do anything about it. 'You'll pay a tariff if you overcharge US citizens' is bulletproof politically, nobody is going to stand up for Pharma execs getting their bottom-line raped because they can't bankrupt Americans.

That then means that pharma will look to raise drug prices on what they sell to European healthcare, which has traditionally gotten better deals through collective bargaining plus the hit being offset by the obscene amounts being made on the US market. If that cushion goes then the price of drugs in Europe will rise and there's not much that can be done about it for a lot of drugs.

It's in a perfect neighborhood where the cost of entry is over £1MM, otherwise I wouldn't consider it. The intention is to live there for a very long time.
>Good luck with that mortgage application. There's no way you'll be getting the keys in under 6 months even if you pay all the sudden 'express lane' fees that appear, skimp on the survey and the various middle-men feel like doing their job for absolutely no benefit to them.

I think my brother is pretending to have a job so my mom drives him to the train station to buy drugs, then he comes back 2-3 hours later and says it was a "short shift"

So, last month (before the craziness hit) I initiated a 401(k) rollover into a (newly opened) Robinhood IRA. It was a 401(k) from a previous job so I wanted to consolidate, and I figured with the 2% rollover bonus it was basically free money. Only problem was that the 401(k) provider was either too old-fashioned or too much of an asshole to transfer funds electronically, so instead they cut a check and mailed it to Robinhood, which took forever.
Pain in the ass, I thought. But then the tariff shock hit and everything cratered, and my check was still in the mail. I essentially lucked into going 100% cash the week before tariffs. Now the check has arrived and I'm sitting on $120k of fresh powder. My question is: if you were in this situation, what would you do with your cash pile?

Sounds very bearish if I understand it correctly.
From the sounds of it national security tariffs where tech and pharma is included means that its basically non negotiable, unlike reciprocal tariffs.
But maybe I'm coping since I'm 70% cash rn and want to slurp more.
>>
>>60264892
>what would you do with your cash pile?
I am sitting on a larger cash pile, I have been slowly DCA into my favorite stocks, but because of the turmoil I have been extra cautious. I make more money in stable/bull market. Trump has created turublence, which is good, but also unpredictable. Pigs get slaughtered. The turbulence means unpredictable actions - large banks/hedge funds programmed trading, pulling out for a while, fake headlines, panic. If you want to gamble just use a small amount to buy a good stock that plunged more than it should and will rebound quickly ( you have to be ready to buy), then you can sell the rip (one day or a few days/weeks you never really know) and add back to your cash pile, or keep some sell some, at least you go a good stock at a goo price. But, over all I think keeping cash on had for a while is good because market action is also affected by China and other countries fighting back against Trump's actions.

I think this chart is a little ignorant
leaving aside reinvesting dividends and total return, if you invested 100k in the SNP in 1995, it would grow 10x to today.
That is real money, and it is real growth. Is 100k in 1995 worth more than 100k today? Sure. But it's not like 10x more.
If all I did was drop 100k in 1995, I would legit be a millionaire today. The stock market DOES outpace inflation, and it's one of the only assets that does that. It's just because it has such a high return.

I think the big observation you're making is that the M2 money supply doesn't correlate 1:1 with inflation. Population growth should factor into that, as inflation is more like an "amount of money per per capita" figure than just an "amount of money" figure. Even that probably wouldn't be enough to bring it together, though.
>>
>>60265282
>I think the big observation you're making is that the M2 money supply doesn't correlate 1:1 with inflation.
Yes, that's exactly right.
The other observation about M2 money supply is that, as business expands and the economy expands, the M2 supply expands in proportion with that.
That's not like "oh the stock market is fake and never makes any real gains", that's just good monetary policy. Of course you would expand the money supply when you have a bigger economy, more population, and you're doing more business. That's how monetary policy works, right?
>>
>>60265282
>M2 money supply doesn't correlate 1:1 with inflation

It's not a conspiracy to say that "inflation" can't really be summed up in a single number. The methodology behind calculating CPI is byzantine and arbitrary.
Is it a conspiracy theory to say that the people in charge of deciding how to report inflation (ie. The Government) would put their finger on the scale to serve their own agenda? Yes. But it isn't much of a stretch either.

The trade war is just the shitty prequel to the hot war over Taiwan. The MIC has forced the issue of reshoring critical component production. I know that nowadays all boards are literally infested with chink and russkie shit-stirrers, but for anyone who is actually western and believes China can take Taiwan: you are a retard. Russia can't even walk over their poorer, weaker next-door neighbor ON LAND. China is thinking about conducting an opposed amphibious landing (the most difficult of all military operations), on a timeline that's obvious to everyone, with a tiny window due to weather conditions, against a giant mountainous island with only two suitable landing sites. Against a nation that's been preparing for this shit for eighty years. Whatever benefit Xi thinks he can get from attempting this, it has nothing to do with actually succeeding, because they won't.
