Tobacco barrons, when are we going to take profits? It was an undervalued sector a year ago because the cash flows were still so huge despite the decrease in customers, and now it's rising because oral nicotine is becoming popular with the zoomers.
But it seems unlikely that it can keep going after it did already +55% YTD, revenue is barely increasing.

there is a difference between buying selling options to make money when the opportunity is there, and doing to make a living where you are pressed to make plays to make money to live. Think about the difference between options on individual stocks and an ETF.

I once analyzed my 50 most recent trades (at the time) and found I would have had a literal, actual 100% success rate if I had no stop loss on any of them. One. Hundred. MOTHERFUCKING. Percent. A stop loss is the most retarded fucking concept humanity has ever invented. It says "I know the price will go down further if it hits this price." As if you'll suddenly have a fucking clue what the price is going to do at that point. Never, ever have a stop loss.

FUCK YOU SOXL YOU PIECE OF SHIT
>>
>>60933418
I didn't say "never exit." I said "never have a stop loss." If a better opportunity pops up, by all means, free up your capital and switch over. But a stop loss is a complete and utter fucking nonsense concept, as dumb as day trading. When you set a stop loss you are literally saying "If le price hits X dollars then suddenly I'm a psychic and know 100% for sure it will hit Y dollars."

>>60933420
A huge proportion of sudden moves get instantaneously undone in the other direction within an hour after open. If there's a rash move like gapping down, it's more important that ever to sit on your hands until there's clarity. And there's no such thing as a "trend," at least not in the sense you're insinuating. Indexes have a statistical trend upward, but everything else can turn on a dime.
>>
>>60933426
Okay, but I'm not wrong. It's mathematically more important to avoid losses than to chase wins, and I've said this many times in smg
>$100 -> $110 is a 10% gain
>$110 -> $100 is a 9% loss

>$100 -> $90 is a 10% loss
>$90 -> $100 is an 11% win

Stops help you from digging yourself into a hole. Yes, the price will probably recover and go in your favor eventually, but if you're down 40%, you need a 250% return to break even.

It's how numbers work, but that doesn't mean it's how the market works. People buy stocks with dollars, not percentage points. If some $200 stock goes down $5, the $5 climb back up isn't necessarily going to be slower just because $5 is now a bigger percentage.

Your instinct was good, your mistake was trusting your timing in full. The solution to this, from experience, is to decide on a move and open a position with 30-70% of the total, conditioned on how sure you are your timing is right. Never go higher than 70%, the remaining is a hedge on your decision.

Treat trading like a marathon. It's not a singular event that will make or break you; if a position can give you 10x, it can also leave you with 10% of your money.
Like, pro traders will assign some amount of risk if they lose, typically 1-2% per trade. Scale it based on ATR.

So if you have a $5,000 account, 2% losses would be $100. Using /smg/'s favorite meme as an example, HGRAF closed yesterday at $1.20 and has an ATR of $0.23. You'd assign 1.5x or 2.0x ATR as your stop loss, say 2x = $0.46. You would long (or short) whatever amount of shares to make that $0.46 equal $100, in this case 217 shares.

You can even do what >>60933661 says and split it - for example 1% risk now and 1% risk later, so 108 shares per lot (of course after price moves and hits one SL, your risk becomes different)

In either case, come up with some rules and trade it consistently. Trading is very much about creating a process and sticking to it
>>
Well looks like no trades today for me, unless we crash into the close.
>>
>>60933701
Also, don't look at individual trades when you win or lose, look at them in batches of like 5 or 10 or 20 trades as a unit.
If you make any mistakes (eg deviating from your system or trading emotionally), write it down and keep a journal. Never make the same mistake twice. Once you become consistent and avoid being stupid, your gains also become consistent

Always cut your losses as soon as possible. Save yourself the emotional turbluence, and just make the next decision with more clarity.

Statistically, next week is looking bearish but the chance of unexpected pumping is on the table given the broad momentum. Track NVDA, everything is glued to it, if it dips below 175.50 we should start a downturn, even if temporary.

You could just go for ETFs or load up on staples while they're still all oversold for tech. Alternatively, hold until the Fed announcement. A "good" result will probably result in a brief dip since the cut is priced in, and a "bad" result will cause the market to crater.
