Maybe not, if they already loaded up before the rip, the new members maybe buying into the NSA/CIA favorite spy tools company. Both my parents are (now retired) chefs from local restaurants. They had their red seals and were certified. My mom has been retired for about 12 years, my dad 3. I always lived with them growing up so I didn't cook much, but I enjoyed food.

I'm pretty introverted, and even though I was renting from other family during covid, I adjusted just fine to the lockdowns, but there was an explosion of cooking content on YT, so I gotgud. Learned all sorts of stuff like pork roasts and goulash and even got a manual pasta machine

just about everything can give you profits. Trading the news, the weather, there's even a tarot card trader here. I myself use a small amount TA and I find it typically is only reliable on time frames larger than a week. I trade fundamentals and options. But you can definitely make some money with enough patience.

I welcome you to smg, coming here means youre half of the way to making it. we are disabled too, albeit intellectually. I hope you can find comfort in this community.

Everyone is an expert reading charts. Just look at the millions of vids on youtube, everyone an expert. Just buy their courses, books, vids, like and subscribe and you will see. If you have a small amount of money, then you should be a conservative/safe as possible because you may need that money for an emergency or other unexpected expenses. Why are you not happy with VOO, BRK.B and bonds? VOO has grown 96% the last five years, bonds about 4, and BRK/B 126%. You think you can do better for the same risk?

Thats one of those "do it for fun" with a little side money kind of things if your a numbers autists. And if you happen to be really good at it go for it with more money. Pretty sure most people just fuck themselves when trying to day trade. Probably because a lot of them are degen gamblers

Technical analysis can be very profitable if you're very good at it. However, no one gets very good at it overnight. The fact you are asking us suggests you most likely do not have the passion to learn it. That's fine. Don't try to do it just because your boomer dad told you it was a good idea. It is incredibly easy to lose money daytrading.

>Tricolor, with operations in six states, sold cars and provided auto loans mostly to low-income Hispanic communities in the Southwestern United States, saying it saw an opportunity to serve "invisible" workers with no access to bank accounts or other forms of credit.
>"…Based on our ongoing review, it appears there is significant fraud in the collateral filed that was used to support the borrowing base in all their warehouse facilities, as well as the audited financial statements of the company,” said Fifth Third Chief Executive Officer Tim Spence, via Bloomberg.
I can't believe a sub prime auto lender that was probably issuing 40% APR 72 month loans on Nissan Altimas to illegals has fallen. Surely THIS is the canary in the coal mine for the entire economy.

All I'm saying is that micro loan companies like Klarna have nothing in common with a company like Tricolor, whose business was securing auto loans for "invisible" (illegal) Hispanics without bank accounts or a credit score. I am buying deep OTM bearish LEAPs on reddit (ticker: RDDT). If you've been following the Charlie Kirk zeitgeist, a kid from a Republican family that got radicalized by leftists on reddit to the point that he committed a political assassination. Reddit spent 48 hours dancing on Charlie Kirk's grave and calling for more assassinations before they knew who the shooter was, and now that it's apparent that he was a leftist redditor, they've invented truly insane levels of mental gymnastics to convince themselves that he was actually a right winger. This is despite the fact that the shooter's own parents who turned him in described him as a radical leftist, and that he engraved left wing reddit-tier slogans on the murder weapon. The Trump administration is going to go absolutely nuclear on reddit once it becomes fully apparent that they turned him into the shooter that he is today. If reddit survives at all, they will be severely financially impacted. They're going to lose all their advertisers and incur massive legal costs from having to defend themselves against prosecution. Reddit is trading at a P/E ratio of 113, making this an insanely good short.

This is the biggest political assassination in 50 years, and it's very personal for Trump. His administration is going to be looking for blood, and reddit has pretty much created the absolute worst possible position for themselves. Even if there is no direct regulatory action, their advertising business is likely to take an enormous hit from all the bad publicity.

thank you for sharing. This is actually related to interest rates, as it's a clear sign of the uncertainty introduced into the market by Tariffs. As mail-order brides are now significantly more expensive, domestic chink women are now expected to command higher prices in the dating market. Whether this affect is temporary or permanent remains to be seen, which is why we will continue to maintain rates where they are at as we wait for the data to come in.
>>60935418
Thank you for your question. It's because the money printer goes brrr. That's why we will continue to hold rates steady so me and my colleagues can keep our jobs and not have to deal with a deflationary spiral caused by a return to the gold standard.

In truth, in practical terms it almost always means you get to buy like 1 share less than you'd otherwise would have been able, and if you calculate with a 100% upside over 5 years it doesn't even matter if you only get like <10% less of that.

I see a lot of comments about the Euro lately, so let me make this clear.
As a European, my exposure to the euro is less than 15% of my portfolio. I cannot find much value in the business landscape which should signify greater concern. US and even Japanese companies are acquiring European companies for valuations you rarely see in the public markets on the regular nowadays. Too levered and not much growth. US companies have the financing and Japanese companies have strong enough balance sheets to handle it.
Not impactful in the short run, but those foreign entities need to pay taxes in their own currency which has a negative long term impact on the Euro.

If you observe the last 3 triple witchings (dec 20th 2024, march 20s, june 20th) the market was stinky in the 3 or so days before. I know the best time to start investing is always yesterday, the second best today, and that it's statistically better to invest now than to wait for good timing...
But if I'm about to dump a decent chunk of my meager savings, I'm still nervous. It looks like the S&P 500 and related indexes are on some insane bull run, which to me seems like a cooldown is likely and it might then take a few years to get back to the same level, but obviously I'm no economist. Am I being overly concerned? And should I consider something like Vanguard VT instead if I'm this uncertain about US-only stuff?
For context, Europoor anon here (and too old to start investing, I have maybe 30-35 years of active working life left at most, if my health issues don't aggravate earlier).

The goal is not holding forever, but buying companies you feel will be strong throughout your investing career. This may seem like a rhetorical difference, but it's an important distinction.
You sold your stocks because you thought that was a lot of money for you, and you wondered if your luck was going to run out. You don't need to kick yourself over that if you're a trader. But an investor would ask different questions: is the company still dominant? Is this business still growing? Will this field remain relevant well into the future, and if not, will this company be ready to adapt and transform?
As an investor, especially if you're investing in tech, you have to be a bit of a futurist and see where the wind is blowing. You only drop a stock if the company isn't sailing in the same direction.
>>
>>60936487
I sold my individual stocks early this year, which was about 35% of my portfolio, and decided to DCA it in 5% increments month after month throughout the year because I felt the stock market was overvalued.
I'm now down to 15% cash and I regret not just lumpsumming it all in, but at least I did what I felt comfortable with and I will be 100% invested by the end of the year.

It is what it is.

Was in a mcdonalds yesterday. The giant ipad screens have way too many options. They don't care about bathroom cleanliness anymore, a basic task of running a restaurant. Why do I need an app to save money on already overpriced food? Don't get me started on the dining area. No colors in the furniture, just starbucks cloned furniture, zero creativity or thought in layout just one big dining area with open office floorplan style layout. The clientele is more people in their late 60s and 70s, who are they marketing their shit too? People under 40 aren't gonna come to this place at all. Absolute downfall from my childhood mcdonalds experience. I'd rather just get a frozen burrito at a grocery store and microwave that myself for half the price and not deal with some tech nerds silicon valley app scam. Mcdonalds should be shorted to bankruptcy, I'll take overpriced chicfila over this company ran by MBAs these days.

If you're starting late, you should be worried about not taking on enough risk. Piling everything into SP500 and just waiting it out is too defensive on your part, while simultaneously increasing real world risk because the longer time frame allows for more unpredictable events in your actual life.
Go ahead and buy the index, but also buy some high conviction stocks. Possibly use a little bit of margin to boost the start of your investing. Re-balance into a more defensive portfolio later.

Fellow millennialbro, people who are 35 who say they 'invested' at 15 are lying to you. 20 years ago you needed access to a broker, likely through your family and parents, in order to be a 'teen investor'. It wasn't them investing, it was their parents investing on their behalf and them coming online and larping like they did it themselves. Not that it's much of a consolation, I too would have liked to have rich parents instead of middle class parents who stole from me.

Permabulls, suppose someone has $20k and is thinking about investing for the first time ever. What is your unironic opinion about getting in right now? If you have been invested for a year or more and your portfolio is up 25% or 500% I get that you don't give a shit about the CAPE ratio or whatever. But would you honestly tell someone it's a good idea to throw in their middle-class-sized nest egg right now? Keeping in mind economic data has been consistently mediocre for 8 months straight, meaning a downturn could happen and such a person could need their savings. This is an actual dilemma I am facing with a family member seeking my advice. I dumped my savings into SPY in october 2023 and idk what the fuck to tell them, I feel like anyone just reaching financial maturity now is in a pretty fucked position, either sitting out and getting hit with the 10% yearly inflation, or going in and being faced with risk that is massively higher than usual.

No. It means you need to be more (intellectually) active in your investing, with more aggressive concentration than just holding SPY. This is the price you have to pay for starting later. You need to invest more, seek higher returns, study individual companies closely, and be more strategic on how you deploy money and credit.
Think of the 5-10 largest companies on the stock market. If you buy and hold a couple of them, you'd likely be very safe. The actual risk comes in the timing - a single stock might dip hard right when you need to sell. But that's a risk you have to take, because the opportunity cost of a "safe" portfolio of only index funds is also a risk. You may not get to where you need to be before you retire, or you may have to stop working early because of health.

So i got around 186k in my brokerage account , i've been investing in QQQI currently at 26k. Everything else is in growth stocks and a little play money more risky stocks. I just want to build up to a point where ill never have to work again , so im tempted to dump it all into QQQI - if i put all 186k into QQQI i could pretty much live off of that - but i dont know.

I feel as if im being to risk averse - i also max out my 401k and IRA and have been for a while now - Would the fastest path to that being building up my lump sum with a SNP ETF then once built up porting it into QQQI etc portfolio ?

I'm placing a bet that 2026 will be the beginning of a global crisis. Might even be the modern "General Crisis" like what happened in the 17th century where entire countries had 2/3 of the population fight and die. I'm shorting in giga bear mode.

personally, I think someone needs to go on wallstreetcucks and post about how it's the next golden opportunity to give it a little momentum boost and this thing is off to the races. they're cutting some headcount which is a good thing, and last ER wasn't terrible. turnaround in progress. I only spent like 7k in calls and they are for march '26 ($2), but shares are just as cheap and probably a better play if you are feeling risk averse.

There's no reason to believe Nasdaq returns will continue into the future. Many different sectors have been 'hot' in previous decades and then fizzled.

Buying a broad index fund is the only way to guarantee you will get your fair share of market returns, minus a small fee.

A big chunk of your returns will be down to luck and factors you can't control. Someone who starts investing when the market has many strong consecutive years will probably be far worse off than someone who is blessed with a shit market in his first years. You want a mega crash early on but it's not in your control.

The only thing you can control is how much you save (a big income helps of course), and how little you need to spend in retirement using the 3% rule. Being happy with frugality is the only guaranteed way to accelerate your retirement.

It's a lot of money to just be throwing around blindly.
Even if you just buy a simple S&P500 ETF, without understanding what the fuck you're doing you will have no conviction and mess it up at the worst possible moment.

NVDA having the largest market cap in the world is such a fucking bizarre anomaly. People throw around the analogy of the gold rush, and how the gold miners made less than the company selling the pickaxes. Where that analogy fails is the fact that yes, the pickaxe industry as a whole was huge, but spread out across many companies because making a pickaxe is fucking easy. It seems like it should be the same with GPUs tbdesu. GPUs have been around for 40 years, like 4 huge companies make them actively and another 5 megacap tech companies could easily swoop in if they chose. I don't get how NVDA has a 100% unbroken monopoly.

>>
>>60937281
Is US consumer credit problem that bad? I heard klarna has 30% delinquency rate and CC debt, Univ debt is rising too.
>>
>>60937267
Making top of the line GPUs is hard and frankly you cannot enter if you're not already making them because the relevant patents are all taken already and TSMC capacity (the true monopoly here, along with ASML) is bought in advance for many years by the existing customers. Good luck outbidding Apple and Nvidia.
China could do it eventually, but unless they take over Taiwan they'll be catching up for a while in terms of technological processes. And the incentive is not that big since they easily smuggle in GPUs despite sanctions (most of which are even assembled there).

I have several "defensive" euro stocks that have beaten the return of the spy500 for 5 years in a row by 3 points annually... finance, energy and insurance mainly.
Italy and until recently Spain had companies with +12% sustained growth for almost a decade and P/E below 10.
They're require patience, and some research, they are not exciting... but they deliver.
>>
>>60937292
When you adjust for the realistically available growth limited by market share for each region the leverage comes out higher than US companies for sure. European balance sheets just aren't as healthy as Japanese balance sheets.
The situation of the Euro isn't "that bad" but you can definitely expect it to be among the weaker currencies compared to other global reserve currencies. People forget that abenomics has had a severe artificial effect on the Yen which should cease to last when things eventually stabilize. Lots of inorganic growth to be had in Japan actually, m&a is through the roof because there are many small business owners who fail to find a successor.
Many people mistakenly correlate population decline with currency decline because the median (per capita) working age increases, historically this has been tied to a decrease in productivity but our data shows this effect isn't as severe in the modern age.
>>

I’m on Blind, which is basically twitter for software engineers

there’s insanely high levels of cuckoldry fetishes, 1/3 literally have arranged marriages (per a poll that was ran), and there’s just a handful that have views that remotely resemble mine or what you’d find in /smg/

pic related isn’t even filtered to san francisco.
they’re a bunch of cucks.

I should add we have been seeing a lot of news stories how September is a bad month for the markets and fund managers usually close out positions to lock in profits around this time for their October fiscal year close. Wednesday with the rate cuts may just be one of the highest trading volumes of the entire year because of this. Then it will crab or bear until November towards a Christmas rally.

No, san francisco is full of swingers.
cuckoldry is a weird ass fetish.

at least half the shit you’ve posted has been flat out wrong or retarded.

I’m just going to go spam bluesky with how we need to start lynching trannies.

The one thing that busts my balls is that I cannot set autopay on the due date, only some weeks prior, so I schedule a payment manually every time because I'm not gonna lose that money market interest in the mean time.

it was part of the burry trio in 2020
GME, BBBY, and DDS

the difference is DDS was actually profitable so they just keep buying back shares and outstanding shares goes down so obviously stock price goes up even if market cap goes flat
but short sellers were also in the stock coz brick & mortar + insiders just holding and choking the float + buying back more shares

ive put GME back in my watchlist ever since they stopped their cashburn, i actually bought some shares a bit over $20 but sold again because i think other stuff will grow faster before gme is allowed to go up for real maybe 2027 (new console cycle), follow the institutional buying

the fact that gold is going up is bullish for everything
rising tide

some people with excess cash who probably wanted to buy gold will not buy as much gold anymore after it 2x'd and will instead just look back at companies that are still cheap
ive noticed a lot of my smallcaps had a big jump this week as people are rotating to lower hanging fruit that big wallstreet funds cant touch because they're too big for it
>>
>>60936487
You can always invest into corporate bonds or global equities if you want a little more risk without risking catching any downside of the US market, then whenever you feel better about the outlook start rotating some in.

Nevermind. After re-re evaluating it's only about 700 'ghost' dollars but it's still annoying to keep having this problem where I've got less money than I thought and makes the fumbled trades hurt a lot more. If I had 200k like I should have, I probably wouldn't care about 700 or 2000 missing dollars.
