I don't understand why the Fed even has employees at this point. Jerome Powell just gets drunk the night before every FOMC and then wakes up hungover and just looks at the prediction markets before the fed meeting and picks the most likely outcome and then just rambles half asleep about black unemployment numbers for 45 minutes and then ends the meeting. They could literally lay everyone off and nothing would change.

My take on what is happening with gold if anyone cares.

Gold is a panic buy asset, it's not something that trades based on inflation or fair valuation. When times are good nobody wants it because it doesn't do anything, when times are bad people buy it up at any price because they think it's the end.

Look at my chart, it's gold price with the sp500 below. Every time there is some sort of panic or worry it shoots up 35-40% and then comes back down to a new high that is detached from inflation, you can see this in 2008, during covid and during the trump panic earlier this year. So looking at what happened in the GFC you can see an initial run up of 35%, I have to assume this was insiders as they are always the first to get out, then as the news cycle got underway and normal people started to worry it shot up 55% as wall st. got out and then finally comes the wave of people who are late to the party trying to save their assets which creates an event of it's own that everyone piles into which shot gold up 176%.

So here's the deal, seeing how predictably gold spikes with a delay every time there's a panic, the price action in the first half of this year makes perfect sense. Gold shot up 34% and was on it's way down as usual... but then if you've been paying attention you know that insiders are dumping stocks and fleeing to safety, that caused the gold price to trade sideways and now the predictable 35-40% bump it should've gotten after falling has gotten muddled up. It's up 21% from it's low after the last panic so it might have room to run up another 14-19%.. or not, before it pulls back and then runs up another 50% when the market crash is underway. Now the real unknown are the boomers, they're old and they can't afford to take a hit on their portfolios this late in the game. If history repeats we will see gold at approx 195% from current pricing before it's all done, or we could smash through that.

>set to inherit some RE too eventually
I still don't feel good.....

I suspect because of poor job market, all assets feel overvalued, eroding democracy, decay in morals, massive inflation, dollar value and dominance dying before my eyes, constant chaos/uncertainty, the unshakeable feeling that those in power not only have more power with an open pass to be corrupt but also planning to tank everything, and general bullshit leading to a sense of doomerism.

Copied from a thread on Wednesday:

The short play is that they took on a fuckload of debt to keep the company afloat during the pandemic (BAD) but they also let their pension fund managers run wild and do whatever they wanted for the last five years, which resulted in their employee pension fund being overfunded by like $700m (GOOD). They're in the process of offloading their pension plan to a third party so they can fulfill their pension obligations but also use the extra cash to pay down all of their debt. The deal is signed and the ink is dry, but they don't get access to the money until December. Because their debt is coming due, and because they don't have access to the money yet, their quarterly reports consistently make it look like they're months away from bankruptcy even though they're definitely not. After December, I expect a nice ~25% hike in the stock when they finally correct their balance sheet.

The long play is that the pharma manufacturing business that they announced during covid (see the big spike in the chart around 2020) is finally starting to produce pharmaceutical precursors, which is an extremely valuable business in the current political climate. This is much less certain than the short term pump, but I'm bullish because I'm retarded

I have an emergency fund, but I like to add to it, $200 a month won't do much if invested but will make a difference if I need the money in a pinch, what's why I dont want it in something volatile, so I can sell it without thinking if needed.
WEEK is basically SGOV but with a weekly payment, would it compound faster than SGOV? I dont like how it has a higher expense ratio but getting a dividend every week from it sounds cool

interesting. outside of that, are they actually a good company?

did some looking
they have razor thin margins by the looks of it. even if you bump off restructuring and a good chunk of interest expense they dont appear that profitable. the pension fund being half of their balance sheet is fucking insane. I'd be wary of that excess being included as a form of income down the road. their EPS will sky rocket but it doesnt look like they are profitable.

>As of the date of issuance of these financial statements, Kodak has debt coming due within twelve months and does not have committed financing or available liquidity to meet such debt obligations if they were to become due in accordance with their current terms. These conditions raise substantial doubt about Kodak’s ability to continue as a going concern.

most noteably they werent audited. I think they are honest and representing the company well but they are far from being a good company and that unaudited status is sus

Yeah the only thing keeping them afloat right now is their monopoly on physical media printing presses. Their film business is actually really small by comparison. The previous CEO was a retard who ran the company into the ground by focusing on nostalgia marketing and doing crypto scams (see Kodak Coin). They're focusing on growing their pharma and battery manufacturing capabilities now which seems promising IMO.

it's just the sign of a dying company. like, the battle from -0.36 eps to 0.00eps is going to be brutal. we're not talking profitable in two years more like 5-10. If you have to do all these background tricks like yoloing your pension and amoritizing the gains, and switching up your business model a couple times, you're neck deep in shit. I really can't even tell what it is they do. I don't know where they'll manage to find the capital to keep themselves afloat to grow any other part of their business. they're balls deep in debt, even if they pay it off with the pension plan- they dont have the capital to expand their operations so they're really just going to go back into debt again.

Not saying it's not a valid trade, if what you say is true the picture can improve over the next 3 months but you are betting the market hasnt already priced all this in. The pharma thing is interesting. Can be a good play, I would say Q2 2026 would be where we see the output of the pharma operations hit the financial reports, since they expect production to begin in 2026. If they can resolve the debt, show strong revenues from pharma, and improved guidance on growth they might be worth it. perhaps a rally by mid to late 2026, but december might be too soon to tell if they dont have the pharmas operating at a meaningful capacity.
>>
>>61000785
Stick with SGOV imo. If this money is at Vanguard or Fidelity, you may have accounts (CMA or Brokerage) with core positions that default to money market accounts like SPAXX or VMFXX, which will basically get you the same yield without having to 'buy' anything.

>Over the past few years, the video-game industry has faced a difficult contraction period during which companies have laid off thousands of employees due to flattened growth. There have been many reasons for this shift, such as huge, Covid-era investments that didn't pan out. But one problem stands above the rest — there are too many video games.

>In 2024, a staggering 18,626 games were released on Steam, according to SteamDB, a website that tracks data on the popular PC platform. That's an increase of around 93% from 2020, when 9,656 games were released.

>This glut of new releases stems from a number of factors, including widening interest in games, the rise of cheaper and easier development tools and lower barriers to entry.

>There was once a time when it was impossible to create a video game and get it into people's hands unless you had a publisher that could get you prime shelf position at GameStop and Walmart. But over the past decade, as customers pivoted en masse from physical to digital games, the playing field has been leveled.

>In other words, this isn't like the 1980s, when the US gaming market crashed due to a flood of poorly made products. Today, there are too many video games, and many of them are great.

>The market for new video games isn't just oversaturated — it's nearly impenetrable. Teams of hundreds of people are spending years of their lives developing games that are destined to get lost in the sea of new releases. It's no longer enough to simply be a good game — more than 120 games released in 2025 have scored higher than an 80 on Metacritic, the review aggregation website. The ones that earn more than a 90 tend to hit, but many of the others have failed to take off.

>But for the companies investing hundreds of millions of dollars into games that need to move huge numbers to break even, this is no small challenge. And it's just getting harder every year.

I make about 50k € a year after tax and I save/invest 2k a month (24k a year).
I do get a slightly bigger bonus and a raise every year so maybe my income will be like 55k next year. Not sure on that though.

But for next year I want to make a 2 week trip to Aussie (about 5k all in) and I want to buy a new (to me) used Toyota (about 15k).
I would also like to move out of my mom's house which would increase my expenses by about 10k a year.

I'm not sure how to fit all that in. I thought about reducing my spending even further, but I find that impossible to do without a detailed budget.

I've held MSFT for like 6 years and my avg cost/share is like $200. Microsoft Teams would have to turn into skynet for me to lose money on this.
>>
>>61001644
yes and how many times during that 6 year period could you have sold at the top and bought at the bottom, increasing your earnings significantly. you could take profit off the table and only invest a certain amount so if it flops it doesnt even really affect your earnings.

anyway, best of luck. im not commenting at all anymore im only lurking. sick of wasting my time trying to help others tbf

Been sitting in cash since the start of the month because I was worried about seasonality, but it seems the bears are too weak to get any kind of pullback, we V after every sell off, I’m buying back in on oct 1st, bears are dead and retail has been trained to slurp up every dip

>>61001667
i thought that was a big eel at first

>retail has been trained to slurp up every dip
The conditioning has been primed for retail to pump my shorts back to covid lows. Keep buying those bags goy. After all, it worked for the last 5 years!

Controlling your spending is the first step on the way to financial enlightment. Buy groceries in bulk and learn to cook, anon. Think of how much your potfolio would grow if you just made a weekly addition to an index fund instead of eating takeout.
>>
Is it even worth investing in index funds at this point? I DCA every month, but I’m truly worried about the AI bubble.
>>
>>61001693
I enjoy take out a lot too. People will tell you to buy in bulk and homecook every meal, but I don't think you really have to do that unless you have a lot of consumer debt.

I get takeout or eat at a restaurant a few times a week because I enjoy it. I know how to cook and can cook a variety of dishes, but I can never get down with meal prep. To me a food is a pleasure, and I hate eating for efficiency when I don't have to. My brain was rewired by the military to treat food as fuel and eat quickly, so if I can sit down and enjoy a meal in a nice restaurant once or twice a week I will.
>>
>>61001723
I don't mind spending at restaurants but it feels I'm wasting too much money on slop that's not even that great, like coffees.

Don't sell. Use margin. Not too much, 15% will do. Buy something else.

If you want to change your portfolio allocation, think about it for a while and if you come back let's say a month later and you still want to do it, then do it.

I was invested in a single tech stock that had done well for a long time and I was thinking about changing a big chunk of it into an index fund for months, but I procrastinated. When the April crash came I thought now is the time and sold close to the bottom, then got cold feet about lumpsumming into the index. Big mistake.

What I learned from my mistake is that if you're not 100% convinced about your allocation you are prone to make a big mistake at the worst possible moment.

>2 more weeks
>>
>>61001767
you're mistake you need to learn another lesson from that mistake, that sounds liek just you didnt fully understand or know what you actually owned
i did the opposite and sold all my index etf to buy my individual picks that i knew was tariff-proof but was going down hard anyways

heck thats prob still a play for next year as more earnings show up, lots of shit are still down like -30% if not worse since tariff fears but business wasnt actually impacted that hard, or if they were, they prob moved offshore shit to vietnam or indonesia by now away from china
lots of opportunities if you just wait as long as they didnt have cashburn or at least not too bad of a cashburn while they were adjusting
>>
holy shit i unironically did a youre your typo no way

I checked back and I did buy a lot of winter clothes that period including a suit.
I lost a lot of weight from Sep 2023 => June 2024 so I had to buy a lot of new clothes last year.

I have a lot of 'other' spending in 2024 because I don't remember what it was for. And I used to use my credit card a lot and everything that's in there was discretionary, more take out, restaurants, clothes.

The negative numbers on restaurants is me paying cash and my friends sending me money sometimes. I did not keep track of cash, I just did this excel through card payments today.

The fact that we are inundated with rock collectors and “how do people afford x” scrubs this week, instead of bobos, tells me smart money is out period.

I expect the crash of the decade in the next 2 weeks.
