Despite my prediction at the start of the day that PLUG would continue to go down, it actually recovered about half of its value from where it fell from yesterday. That shows a surprising amount of confidence in the stock despite the execution of that $2 warrant yesterday. PLUGgers might make it out of this after all.

Serious question /smg/

How come whenever you try to give people free advice that if they just invest their money in stock market for 20 years they balk at you. It's always the same excuses

>"Oh I don't have enough money to invest"
>"You need a lot of a money to actually ever get to a million dollars
>"It's impossible for regular people, that's only for the wealthy/elite"

Like why do they refuse to educate themselves on investing? It's infuriating because they vote for dumb shit that "only affectsthe rich", without realizing that someone with $1M NW is barely distinguishable from someone with -$50K networth.

There are three reason an anon is poor.
A) retard (most common)
B) lazy (slightly less common, usually affects college grads)
C) extremely bad luck (true in 1/1,000,000 cases but believed to be the case universally by all in groups B and C.)

In short, because they’re lazy or stupid.

Because average people genuinely do not know how to save money. I have an example: my uncle works 70 hours a week unironically and is always, always broke. I do not work at all currently, taking unemployment bennies ATM. He just got a 6k check from the tax people.

What did he do that day? Paid 60$ for a haircut (he's bald), paid 20$ to get a car wash. He pays 120$ a month for YouTube TV, which he watches maybe twice a week for an hour, despite me telling him to just go to the web browser on the TV, type yandex dot com, and search "<show> full" and find the working stream. No matter how many times I tell him, he doesn't just let me manage his money. I made 10,000$ this month while he is steadily destroying his back more. I love him but he's an actual retard. He earns more than I have ever made but I save and invest significantly more than he can fathom. He is just one of the 99.9% of people who will never, ever make it.

It's a cope
I've never bothered to bring that stuff up in a conversation. Not completely, but judging from the times I've grazed by it, I imagine the #1 thing would be "ethical concerns".
>"I don't want to support the oligarchy/capitalism/wallstreet/the 1%/financial systems"
Left-leaning people would, naturally, go for this cope. But right-leaning people could too if it's framed as crony capitalism or globalist George Soros or it being dishonest work or whatever.
Anyway, the obvious counter is there exists ethical investment. Like left-leaning people could just go buy a bunch of Costco. Right-leaning people could go, I dunno, buy made-in-america agriculture stuff, John Deere, yeehaw.

I like McDonald's but the franchise owner around me price gouges relative to other fast food in the area. So I can only go there when they are running good national promotions because they want like $5 for a double cheeseburger in rural Ohio and never give any good deals. It's really sad because I love that slop.

I'm at my happiest when I pound an edible and eat enough McDonald's for like 3 people, then watch sitcoms and sleep for ten hours until the stock market opens.

Now I'll do Wendy's $5 biggie bag with the upgrade to a large fry for $1 on Wednesdays with the free 6 piece. Burger King was giving two original chicken sandwiches for $5 with a free.large dry for several months but they wised up and don't let you stack the free large with that promo.

Because America has degenerated to an almost unrecognizable degree. We were once a nation of warrior-merchants as bold and skilled with our pocket-books as we were with our arms. That which we bought, we defended with our blood, and always with greater and greater profits in our sights. But thanks to that fucking nigger, FDR, we all became lazy, complacent retards, hoping that the government would just figure everything out for us. Social Security alone will be responsible for more missed retirements goals than accomplished ones, because of all the mongoloids who've been conditioned to think that the government can do everything for them.
I hate the nanny-state so goddamn much.

as if it's somehow immune to speculation unlike all those other assets

my basic ass macro research yields pic rel
I wanted to not just consider gold price vs. M2, but also factor in the known gold supply over time ever since since bretton woods was dropped & private ownership was re-legalized

turns out that ignoring the short lived blowoff top of 1980, gold relative to M2 has never been more overvalued than today
we're at +2.5 standard deviations from the trendline here (which is near flat)

why the hell would you buy gold now unless you're daytrading or legit expecting a paradigm shift (where they somehow also don't end up seizing private gold like they did last time)

I do it for my haters more so than my fans :)

Some Slop for you to consider:

If THX sustains $600–750 M OCF for 5 years with some reinvestment and a modest decline thereafter:

Scenario Enterprise Value Equity Value / Share (CAD)
Base Bull (Gold $4,000) ~$2.5 – 3.0 B USD ≈ CAD 4.50 – 5.50 / share
Aggressive Bull (max throughput + expansions) $3.5 – 4.0 B USD ≈ CAD 6.00 – 7.00 / share

At current prices around CAD 0.80–0.90, that’s 5× – 8× potential upside if gold sustained $4,000 and THX maintained operations without dilution or major cost inflation.

>so I need something relatively safe but potential for massive growth
Those two goals are usually mutually exclusive. "Safe" investments are usually ones that are well-established and well run. Massive growth generally comes from newbies that haven't found their economic niche yet.

That being said, I suggest looking at the Dividend Aristocrats. They're the stocks of the bluest of the blue chips, and to make the list, a company must have increased their dividends every year for at least twenty five years. So they know what they're doing, and they haven't maxed out their client base yet.

There are a number of ETFs that track the list, so you get a lot of diversification for a relatively small investment. And the ever increasing dividends make it easier to wait out bear markets.

If you'd like to learn more, here's an article about them:

https://thecollegeinvestor.com/33315/dividend-aristocrats-who-are-they-and-how-they-work/

However, as dividend aristocrats have to be at least twenty five years old to make the list, tech companies aren't well represented. On the bright side, you've probably heard of most of the companies: Coke, Pepsi, McDonalds, Walmart, Proctor & Gamble . . .

If you want something more diversified, and still reasonably stable, there's always the classic index fund. They might not be the sexiest investment vehicle, but they're so common to portfolios, if any of the components pull anything shady, the backlash is both immediate and massive.

Every single time I am sick and trade when sick I make bad trades. I could have made like 500 bucks today between work and DAL and it would be fine.

Not that anon, but your broker doesn't work for the IRS (or similar tax agency). They ask where the money comes from because anti-money laundering laws require them to. The odds of them asking any kind of follow up question is unlikely, at best.

They do have to report your profits/losses to the IRS, though. So don't expect to be able to dodge taxes forever.

However, there are ways to minimize the bite. If this is your retirement nest egg, you might want to look at a retirement account, rather than a classic brokerage treatment. They qualify for special tax treatment.

Here in the US, they come in two flavors. The traditional IRA is a tax-deferred account, which means that taxes are only charged when you withdraw money. A Roth IRA, on the other hand, is tax exempt. You pay no taxes on anything earned by a Roth account, as long as you paid income tax on the money originally.

Either way, you may qualify for a retirement savings credit on your income taxes.

I would look at index mutual funds. They're basically holding companies that exist solely to own a basket of stocks that reflects one of the stock market indexes, with the most common onde being the S&P 500.

They're not flashy, but they are well diversified, and easy to keep track of. If the market goes up, so does the value of your investment. If the market goes down, so does the value of your investment.

They're so popular (and straightforward to assemble), almost every brokerage or big mutual fund family has them.

You can't invest with a bank. That's why most banks have a brokerage subsidiary to send their clients to. Technically a distinct organization, even if they often share the same building or suite of offices.

Bank or broker, they're not going to ask a lot of questions. They have to ask some general ones because of anti-money laundering laws, but they're not going to grill you on names and dates. If you move a lot of money at once, they have to fill out a form, that's all. They don't need or want to know anything more than the bare minimum to do that.

Leveraged funds are trading tools, not investments. You're supposed to be in them for a few hours at most. Particularly if it rebalances daily, which can be brutal. Even if you nailed the direction right.

There's been a big push to ban them, or at least restrict them to the pros. Too many people have gotten burned mishandling them.

If they ask tell them you simply always saved the cash your grandparents gave you and after all these years you're finally doing something with it. They won't ask until you've returned a few times.
After your starting capital, start depositing 1900ish/week and be friendly when you go instead of a shifty autist. If you regularly deposit similar amounts and don't act sus, they shrug it off. Iirc $2000 is low enough they don't flag it.
And remember that up to 19k/year is exempt from gift tax from any individual.

>Are these known as ETFs? Which one should I get?
ETFs are similar, but they trade on the exchanges. Index funds are handled through your broker or the sponsoring mutual fund family, with the buy/sell value determined at the end of the day. And by mutual fund family, I'm talking names like Vanguard and State Street, whom you've probably already heard of.

They're very similar, though. Think . . . putting beef on a pizza vs. having a cheeseburger. ETFs are better at following the minute to minute fluctuations in stock prices, while index funds are better at letting people buy in with small or irregular incomes.

As for which one you want? As long as they follow the same index, index funds are very, very similar. They have to be, as they're tracking the same set of stocks. The only really difference is the expense ratio (smaller is better) and minimum investment size.

I would start with the S&P 500 index, which follows the big companies. There are also mid-cap and small cap indexes, when you're ready to branch out.

(Avoid sector specific indexes for now. They're still new-ish, and the expense ratios are a bit high for what you get.)

You can buy index funds through your broker, or directly from the mutual fund company. Brokers usually have a lower minimum investment, though.

I think there's a large group of people who unironically believe that AI is intelligent and will soon begin replacing workers and massively increasing productivity. They're so irationally bullish on AI that they buy every dip no matter how absurd the valuations get. I think they'll keep doing this until they either lose their jobs in a recession and no longer have money to invest, or a couple years pass and it becomes apparent to the masses that LLMs are never going to be intelligent and are just a tool.

Why did MSFT blip up to $556 for a moment in futures?

>Leveraged funds are trading tools, not investments. You're supposed to be in them for a few hours at most.
No, that's a myth. It's perfectly fine to hold a leveraged ETF for months or years.

Volatility harms long-term investment returns and leverage increases volatility, so you should be careful. But those are general facts about investing, not anything specific to the leveraged ETF structure.

You do realize that a 3x leveraged fund means TRIPLE losses on the way down, right? And SOXL follows the semiconductor companies - you'd better be praying that AI isn't a bubble.

>can you give me a serious answer?
I did not read all the other crap. If you have a job report that income and deposit that into your bank as savings so they see all the transactions and spend the cash for groceries, gas, food, booze so its not tracked. If for any reason anything comes up, the cash is what you made mowing lawns as a kid and you saved it all these years in case of emergency. Or take the cash and buy gold and silver with cash, and dont tell anyone you have the gold and hide it at home.

AI is more intelligent than the dumber half of the population (NPCs)

Don't see that on mine. Must have been:

>Oct 9 (Reuters) - Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab said an outage of its suite of productivity software has been resolved on Thursday.
>"We identified that a portion of network infrastructure in North America was misconfigured, resulting in impact," Microsoft 365 said on its status page on X.

>Initial reports had showed issues accessing Microsoft Teams and Exchange Online, it said earlier.
>The number of users reporting issues with Microsoft 365 had fallen to 136 as of 5.38 p.m. ET, compared with 17,000 earlier, according to Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources.

This is the common wisdom, and the common wisdom is gay and wrong.

So we agree then. A 3x leveraged fund isn't easy money, and anyone buying in should be prepared for some really, really crappy days in the market.

Based. Concrete companies are great because they can become local monopolies. It doesn't make economic sense for a construction project to transport heavy materials like gravel and concrete from far away. VMC, for example, generates lots of cash because of this.
>>
>>61074456
Kek. Lots of brokers allow fractional share trading these days, so who knows, maybe it's possible somewhere.

I checked Interactive Brokers and they don't allow it. They'll let you trade fractions of BRK.B but not BRK.A.

it's a valid investment if the underlying almost never goes down, like one of the big indexes. If you bought and held SPXL when it first came out, you would be stupidly rich rn.
