VOO is just "the market" it has a "gravity" or "sympathetic pump" as you call it, which pulls the stock in the same direction as it, it is much more important during the first couple hours of market open. After a few hours the individual stock and the market are not so closely tied together, but during market open the main pumps and dumps will reflect the VOO.
