Guess they are holding off until either the price comes down or they have no choice but accept what its at.

The Chinese are taking advantage of arbitrage by buying the silver in the US and selling it in China for a profit to buy more silver with.
The effect of this is that Western markets will be drained of physical silver faster until the price rises to match the Chinese price.
>>

Im sure the smelters have a fatass surplus of silver, so theyre probably comfortable enough to wait and see which direction prices go. They'd probably stand to lose way more on the short term by buying at current prices then they would if they waited to see which direction prices go and adjusting their expectations once (and if) the price stabilizes.
That said, if a lot of smelters are "waiting and seeing" than a lot of silver demand is not being accounted for on the local level.

Coming along with China's new January 1 export controls on silver . . .

What do you mean source? That's what always happens when a single asset has 2 prices: either 1 exchange lowers, or raises the price to meet the other.

In this case, the exchange with higher price has the upper hand in the physical supply, so the US market must raise prices. Or maybe they wont and continue to be completely drained of its supply.

Hundreds of dollars of spot junk; an ASE at what is currently the absolute top, and a free 10ish ounce silver bar from grandma's spoons sent in to smelt.

I am cutting myself off until my next paycheck and I have no idea what I'll be buying next. I want to model a simple 3D printed piggy bank that can fit all kinds of denominations while being easy to store in my hidey hole. This allows me not to be forced to fill a tube of mercs when I want to buy some dumb bullshit ounce.

Dutch trading specialist Karel Mercx posted the following commentary where the opposite (multiply by - 1) of the silver swap rate minus US interest rates can be used as a proxy for the implied silver lease rate to determine physical shortage in the London silver market.:
"The 1-year silver swap minus the US interest rate is now -7.18%.
That distortion explains why the silver rally is not over.
Only at the red line do supply and demand normalize."

That isn't the reason. The reason is that Chinese export controls took 60% of the world refining capacity offline. Western refiners are scrambling to make comex bars ASAP, therefore they aren't fucking with jewlery and coins that need assays and extra steps to turn into comex bars.

Refiners, like dealers, make money on the spread, they don't care what the price is so long as they get 5% over it.

>If im a smelter im buying fucking everything for spot and stacking it in a underground vault.

If you did that, you would go to jail.

A modern business does not have a pallet full of cash in the basement they use to buy and sell. Even if you did, no one would do business with you. Colonel Sanders does not meet Tyson Chicken in the desert to trade a briefcase of cash for a trailer full of chickens. In order to do business you need a credit line from the bank.

First thing you do is form an LLC to separate your personal finances from the business. Then you go to the bank with your business plan to get a credit line. You show them that you can take in raw ore, turn it into refined metal, then quickly flip it for a profit.

So what happens if instead of following the business plan you submitted to the bank to get your credit line you use the money to speculate in the commodities market? That's called bank fraud. If you make money they will take it from you. If you gamble with the bank's money and lose--you go directly to jail, do not pass go, and get your bussy stretched so wide you'll need a toilet brush to wipe your ass.

What you are thinking of is a hedge fund or family wealth fund--if you try using shareholder and bank money to gamble at a dealership or a smelter you will go to prison.

It looks nice to see how silver is mooning, but is it really mooning, or is it some kind of controlled operation?
I mean, the chinks admitted there is a pricing problem, even the kikes have done so.
I keep thinking if the chinks are using paper to move the price upwards, just like the kikes do it downward on the comex/lbma.
The purpose of this is to let the price go up to a specific value (let's say $200), but to prevent a mooning further than that.
I really doubt a fiat destruction would help the chinks, I mean they like having a fiat for themselves, a gold/silver backed currency would be way harder to do the stuff they do now.
But the chink vaults are also going down, it could be organic, but it also could not. Maybe they're hiding the silver somewhere to make it more legitimate.
Is it possible for them to prevent a mooning, to only enforce a new lower bound on the silver price (thinking about $200)?
>>
>>61541104
I do know the fundamentals point to at least $700, that's why I'm wondering if they are going to try to put a stop to it at a somewhat lower price like $200.
>>
>>61541096
Agreed, and nobody is fucking talking about it. Probably because the reality is too crushing but still.
>>61541104
>$200
Probably half of that.
>>
>>61541114
The momentum is too high at $100, it's going to go way past that, and the price is still low to prevent the plebs from getting too much of it.
>>
>>61541104
Silver isn't mooning. It's fun to meme it, but metals ""mooning"" isn't messecarily accurate. In reality, the Rothschild Fiat Debt Note is going DOWN. Metals are only going up nominally because the Rothschild Dollar is being debased and printed into worthlessness. I mean, it's already unbacked and worthless, but the more it is printed the more fiat (faith) is lost in it. PMs "going up" is just a more positive way of saying the Dollar is going Down. The Powell Printing meme is a visual representation of what the semitic FED does. Makes everyone poorer by inflating (debasing) the currency supply. 1913 was the end of America.
>>
>>61541104
>but is it really mooning, or is it some kind of controlled operation?
ofc it's a controlled operation, there is nothing organic with a commodity gaining double digits percents per week.
We are at a point it's not about silver anymore, it's about fucking over price mechanism control of western (((financial institutions))). Silver simply is the catalyst because it was the Achille heel of uberleveraged finance, something so leveraged and fragile it wouldn't require much to break, as we exactly identified it on pmg already back in 2019. China too correctly identified the weakness, and methodically prepared their plan to blow it apart.
Prepare for headlines accusing stackers of being antisocial anti-patriot scums, because kikes will never admit it maybe was a bad idea to leverage a commodity you don't even have supply chain control over 1:400 with paper bullshit.
>>
>>61541112
If it goes that high I’ll only need to drop just barely over a 3rd of my stack to get my goal oz of gold
I’m honestly not sure which would be better come those economic times
>>
>>61541117
In this case it's both. Metals are mooning due to good old fashioned supply/demand AND every part of this world is drowning in debt and fiatshit printing. God only knows how this all ends but I'm guessing its not lower prices.
>>
>>61541117
no fuck you with this shit silver is outpacing fiat devaluation by a factor of 40; you are mixing up long term trends with short terms financial war tactics.
>>
>>61541117
If the usd is going down, and housing+stocks+crypto are going down measured in usd, while silver is going up measured in usd, it means silver is going up tremendously fast compared to housing+stocks+crypto, so that means silver is actually mooning and you'll soon buy lots of housing and land with very little silver.
>>
>>61541117
Has the price of other goods gone up 150% year to date? No obviously fucking not. This is such a bullshit shill line. Silver can go to 1k an ounce as all the rehypothecated quadrillions of bullshit flows into metals before the dollar is even affected much.
>>
>>61541124
A physical Ounce of Gold or Silver is the same today as it ever way, it's an ounce of metal. The Rothschild Debt Notes it takes to PAY for an ounce of metal is going up. It used to take 15 Rothschild notes to buy an ounce of Silver, now that same ounce of Silver costs 70 Rothschild dollars. The Kike Debt is going DOWN sonny.

>>
>>61541137
That is true, there is a deficiency of mines and silver production despite the rise of tech so that does help indeed. And apparently it takes years to set up a mine, therefore, deficits will likely get worse, and thus raise the cost to buy Silver.

Semantics. By this logic 1oz of aluminum is the same today as it ever was, but aluminum was more expensive than gold by the troy ounce 2 centuries ago because it was so incredibly expensive to smelt and manufacture.
And ananases back in the 1600s were more expensive than gold by the weight, because back then you had to ship the whole fucking tree from the caraibes back to Europe just so the fruit could survive the trip.
No, you are wrong. Things change over time. Even gold and silver.

idk, but if you don't buy now, you better not start to fomo once the price continue to climb. No regrets allowed once we break like $150. It will make it 10x worse for you mentally, so if you decide it's too expensive now, you fucking stick to it.
imho it's inevitable we will experience a violent retracement at some point, but it wont be next week, and probably not until next summer, and by then the price will have done some extreme shit (especially in March).
In the grand scheme of things next summer is like tomorrow, but in this timeframe generational fortunes will be made and undone.

As a 2,500ozer myself, i'd tell you to not buy now if you can't stomach the extreme volatility we are about to experience. Personally i wont sell a single oz because i stacked for the past 7 years with one objective in mind : for my wealth to survive the next fiat collapse/transition. So no matter the price i'm not interested. But i'm not actively stacking either at these prices. Just 1 or 2oz here and there to fulfil the drug addict silver cravings i developped over time. But my monke brain refuse to buy at $75 when i used to slurp at 15.

Silver at $70 is like Bitcoin at $500-$1,000. You aren’t stacker early but you are normie early. And if it goes back down to say $40-$50 and stays there for a decade, that’s a small price to pay for not being in now when the currency can collapse.

Just chop it up with a hacksaw. Will be more trustworthy than a 10ozer since you have chopped it to show the insides. Or just melt down the bits you cut off into 1oz pours.

Was indifferent about platinum, but the last thread made me curious about it. For GSR, let's say the ratio is 1:4. 1 oz of gold is equal to 4 oz of silver. Then it fluctuated to 1:2. If you had 4 oz of silver, you can trade it for 2 oz of gold. Therefore, the ideal way to stack is to track the GSR. When the gap is small, buy/trade for gold. When the gap is wide, get silver instead. I get that.

My problem with platinum is, what is the ratio for it, against gold/silver? We know that the ideal GSR is roughly 1:15, since it's been tracked for thousands of years. For platinum, all I can find are charts that span back to ~120 years ago, and its ratio seems erratic (at one point, platinum was more valuable than gold in their ratio relationship). Is ratio trading more of an opportunist thing then?
>>
>>61541179

Dont bother with ratios when it comes to memetals like Pt. GSR worked fine for millenias because they both were money. Pt was literally considered a waste at that time.
You have others metrics to judge if Pt is a good buy or not, but looking at the past wont help you, it's the future potential you must look at.
Imho Pt is a great opportunity imho, but beware of the limited liquidity. Being incredibly rare and niche sometimes is more of a pain than an advantage. That's what makes gold so great : the market depth is nearly endless.

>What's the best way to sell though?
A coin shop can let you recoup some premium if you're selling something like American Silver Eagles. You should become a regular at your LCS and build a working relationship with your dealer. If that's somehow not an option, then a pawn shop should give you spot. As a last resort, there's Ebay and *shudder* reddit.
>>

>First ticks on the March Futures contract for silber at 73.70

Dang, Monument Metals had to error out while I was checking out. Long enough that the market opened up again and the prices were updated, adding an extra $300 to the order.

>>
>>61541255
>What's the best way to sell though?
Ebay is great if you sell in $2K increments becuz the selling fees are lowered down to 2% above 2K worth (and you can get 60% off if you wait for the weekend promos).

>Local pm dealers?
yes that's good too, never settle for less than 95% of spot price.
> pawn shops?
lol no, their job literally is to lowball your ass
>Would 100k of silver be difficult to sell?
in one go? Only dealers will be able to slurp this much, and it might trigger some paperwork.
>Could I realistically sell it all in one day if I wanted to?
Sure, but that may not be the best option to get out the max value of your stack, but if you don't mind losing a % or 2 in the process to hasten the deal then most shops will be happy to take it all from you. Still much cheaper than 35% CGT on stocks/shitcoins.

There is a video in an older /pmg/ thread, I don't know if the thread still exists, but it shows the ratio of DJI to gold. It goes up down up down, each up lasts 15-20 years and each down last 8-10 years. A down started recently and it's expected to last 8-10 years, like all the other downs.

So what are the odds that the LBMA (the least transparent of all the markets) has been caught lying, yet again, about how much available silver is actually in their vaults?
>The LBMA's November report appears to have overstated their silver vault stock by at least 1,321 tonnes!

>I made a mistake in my report and the true extent of the LBMA misreporting is *much* worse than I thought.

>Since I included the ETFs/SLV in the net adjustment, I should have compared it against the LBMA total stock report instead of the implied free float (which discounts the ETFs/SLV).

>In other words, the LBMA should have reported a loss of 389 tonnes instead of a gain of 932 tonnes.

>>
>>61541303
How do you know they aren't closing (or have closed) those shorts and are net long like jp morgan? That could easily be a ton of this buying pressure.
>>
>>61541296
Whatever nets you the lowest premiums possible but you're buying at a very weird time. 100k is a lot of shekels and silver is in magic unknown territory. 10k a month in generics, 10 oz bars, or kilos? 50 now and 50 later? Tough call, man.

Personally, costs are so close between bars and ounces I would go for rounds or coins. I really like the divisibility.

There's nothing wrong with generic 100oz bars. If you talk to your local dealer, they might be able to hook you up with a truck load of big bars for close to spot. Mine did, at least. If your goal is to minimize premiums, that means large, generic pieces. There's a tradeoff of liquidity, but even 100oz bars are pretty easy to sell to a dealer for cash. That changes however is silver really goes to $1,000 an ounce, which is why a mix of sizes is recommended. My opinion is you should focus on sheer weight first, then only start getting 10oz bars and 1oz coins and rounds after you already have a stack you're comfortable with. That isn't exactly how I accumulated, I've been buying a mix of weights from the start, but I'm recommending this now because shit is accelerating. Get some get some get some. Just get some.

There's several factors pushing silver up. In no particular order, global currency debasement, global bond bear market, demand for safety in an environment with huge stock bubbles, central banks dedollarizing ever since the US froze Russian assets because of Ukraine, structural silver supply deficit. What's happening with China isn't as simple as "the chinks are pumping it to fuck the US" they're buying it because they need it. Silver is critical for all high technology, especially high tech weapons. It's the most useful metal in the world, and we're running out, and we're on the verge of a global currency crisis.
