Ok guys I have had almost a revelation today:

The time is coming soon to short TSLA

I know that is a meme at this point and smarter people than me have tried, but a series of events occured today that led me to believe shorting TSLA in the near future could be prudent

I want to gauge peer response. Sow without going into my thesis....what do you think about shorting TSLA
Background: I have been small time trading since 2010 but have been really playing the market since 2021, when I learned options and all that.
>>

any non US investors here that use IBKR and DCA smallish amounts? how do you deal with the fact IBKR won't let you set orders with your full balance when using auto fx conversion? do you manually convert and pay higher conversion fee for amounts <6666$USD and wait 2 days for it to settle so you can invest all of it? (potentially missing our on 2 days of gains?) or do you use auto fx conversion for lower fee and leave ~1% of your balance to rot in your wallet as fiat?

we're not going to invade greenland. there's tough negotiations going on but that's about it. europe wants a propaganda victory and we're going to play into it and let them have it, but some kind of deal will certainly be reached. it won't be greeted with triumphant headlines but it will get done.

You could not imagine the level of corruption and waste that takes place within the UN system unless you've seen it with your own eyes. Trump and Jerome are killing america together.

Trump is not fiscally disciplined and keeps spending like an idiot, killing america.
Jerome keeps hiking rates while doing QE for the rich which means money is being printed but debt is ballooning which means everyone sells american asset classes. Jerome is killing the dollar.

Lots of money still flowing into space and RKLB is supposed to be launch and space systems/space support in addition to launch. Their Neutron rocket is late and if successful will be a big boost to stock price, but look at their revenue from other than launch. Their electron rocket is reliable for smaller loads and is making money. NBIS seems like a good business but the AI bubble doom and gloom is holding AI funding back somewhat, plus AI is not working out as hyped so far. Some of each when the price dips may be good, look for dips on ASTS also.

yes, for now, but has much more upside potential. Much more.
I bought NBIS at about $29 and RKLB at about $27 so I am just holding. $77 was a good buy for NBIS, and about $40 was good for RKLB. Both of these dips were last month. Don't chase a stock. If the business is still good and the price tanks buy some, don't go full retard. Even ASTS was $55 at the beginning of December. I bought more then.

Moving to a gold standard is a retarded idea from both a practical and theoretical standpoint.
It would require arbitrarily revaluating $700m worth of gold to be equivalent to $21t of total assets, the government would basically say "gold is now worth 30x market value" by fiat.
It would allow foreign countries with trillions in US treasury holdings to redeem their bonds for gold, emptying out the US reserves overseas.
The maximum growth rate of the economy would be CAPPED at the rate at which gold could be mined, which has only increased 1-2% annually most of the time.
The concept of QE as a remedy for economic or geopolitical crises, allowing us to avoid depressions, would be eliminated (iirc this is one of the main, original justifications for abolishing the standard in the first place).
Every industry that used gold would be forced to R&D gold replacements (or get 20x more expensive), with the metal being essentially torn between its role as a commodity and its now extremely strained role as a currency.
Finally by this point the government would already have flipped back and forth between the gold standard two times, there would be no reason to assume that they wouldn't just change it back again when it was expedient for them. Of what value would the fed's long-term promise be that "gold is now worth x dollars"?

Can you explain to me what advantages the return to a gold standard could provide that would outweigh the above?

How does Powell still have a job after letting inflation reach double digits under his tenure?
>>
>>61631457
He has a job because allowing inflation to temporarily reach double digits under certain conditions is part of the federal reserve's mandate, i.e. his job. Why do people ask such dumb questions about economics?
>>
>>61631457
Why doesn't Trump know about the actions his DOJ is taking?
>>
>>61631466
Ensuring stable prices with double digit inflation? Printing trillions of dollars and inflating real estate 50 per cent in less than five years is ensuring stable prices?
>>
>>61631475
Ensuring stable prices is one of their goals, another more important one is avoiding a serious financial crisis, like the kind that might result from two years of lockdowns. And another thing, ultimately we are reaching the point where the fed can only do so much because of our overambitious national spending. So the fed can choose between a growing economy with high inflation, or serious stagnation with average inflation. Firing the chair does literally nothing to fix that, it's outside of his control.

Will you shut up about this?

>If your memory’s fuzzy about what went down back then here’s a refresher. On March 27, 2020, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act–aka the CARES Act–a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill that Trump immediately signed into law. Tens of millions of individual taxpayers received cash payments of around $1,200 from the IRS. The money was sent one of three ways: on a debit card, via check, or deposited directly into bank accounts.

The IRS had a three week deadline to send out the first round of nearly 80 million payments. Everything appeared to be running smoothly until Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin insisted that Trump’s name be added to the stimulus checks.
>>
>>61631485
>like the kind that might result from two years of lockdowns
This didn't happen. Most of the country remained open.
Even here in dystopian Southern California, the largest warehouses, the ones with literally thousands of employees, resumed normal operations by the summer of 2020.

It's cute that you people still carry water for this man's gross incompetence by blaming a few months of covid.
>>
>>61631494
Unemployment went from 3.5% to 14.5% peak during the pandemic and took over a year to return to pre-pandemic levels. Thanks for the cute anecdote about your warehouses though, I'm now fully convinced this thing that obviously happened, didn't happen.
>>
>How Congress's Actions Made QE Effectively "Necessary"

>Congress passed trillions in fiscal relief (CARES Act ~$2.2T in 2020, American Rescue Plan ~$1.9T in 2021), funded by issuing massive new Treasury debt. This surge in borrowing could have overwhelmed markets and driven interest rates sharply higher — making the stimulus much more expensive or even unsustainable. The Fed's QE stepped in by:
>Buying huge volumes of those new Treasuries on the open market.
>Keeping long-term interest rates low (suppressing yields).
>Absorbing the debt supply so the government could borrow cheaply and at scale.

>Without the Fed acting as a major buyer, the Treasury market might have faced chaos, higher borrowing costs, or failed auctions — undermining the fiscal packages' effectiveness. In practice, QE facilitated and enabled the historic scale of congressional spending by ensuring smooth debt issuance and low rates.Congress also supported some Fed actions indirectly:
>The CARES Act provided ~$454 billion in equity/credit protection to backstop certain Fed lending facilities (e.g., for corporates, municipalities, small businesses), allowing the Fed to take more risk without threatening taxpayer funds directly.
>This was a partnership, not a command — the Treasury (under congressional authorization) chose how much to allocate.
>>
>>61631494
Also the extent of the lockdowns is completely immaterial to this discussion anyway, Trump is the one who issued the stimulus and takes the blame for the second-order effects that it created.
