Whispers:
- Availability of ship fuel in Asia no longer guaranteed
- Product tanker rates in Asia are crashing. There are no cargoes. Refineries slowing down fast.
- VLCCs stuck inside the Gulf starting to get fixed at obscene rates for storage. $500,000 per day to store 2 million barrels. Onshore storage running out fast.
- India in full panic mode. They purchased Russian barrels first, and the US announcement of "sanctions reprieve" came later. The US did not want it to seem like India crossed Trump.

In other news, another mega petchem complex in Singapore declared force majeure today.
GS Caltex plant in Yeosu should declare soon.

These are not small operations.

Even if ships start crossing the price of insurance will be immense, some tankers are unisurable with how much they cost and so the company owning the ship won't take the tail risk of getting hit and lossing a pirceless tanker

Some of your should become familiar with this little known film from 1981. The Gulf countries are very very unhappy about what’s happening.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_(film)

“ Financial Times (FT) reporting (cited widely on March 5-6): Gulf nations are reviewing overseas investments and future commitments to ease budget pressures. Officials mentioned internal reviews to potentially invoke force majeure clauses in contracts, reassess current holdings, or scale back/cancel future pledges—including in the US. This is described as a precautionary measure amid the war’s economic toll, though no formal withdrawals have been confirmed yet. Any major pullback could impact global markets and add diplomatic pressure on the US for resolution.”

Force majeure basically means all contracts are null and void for now, with no legal recourse for those affected. They are under no obligation to honor purchasing or sale agreements.

I don't think the plants are shutting down, but operating at very reduced capacity. If they shut down it could take months to restart.

Petchem complexes is where naphtha gets cracked into all sorts of materials that are then turned into plastic, rubber, solvents, adhesives, chemicals and so on. Just about everything you see around you involves those things.

The main difference between petchem plants and refineries is that petchem is "just in time". There are no storage buffers. That's why they are shutting down almost immediately.
Most countries have crude stocks to last months, I don't think regular refineries are going to have issues. The reason why fuel is scarce is because the gulf itself had major refineries that are not isolated from the rest of the world.

It's a 30% gain, go ahead and calculate the 1.3x the price of whatever oil stock (not oil companies) your using, accounting for leverage.
Go ahead and put your sell orders in now, Good till closed sit back and relax. Having an exit point is how you win, holding forever is how you get raked like silver bros.
It may go beyond $120 but at that point the risk of a correction outwieghs the potential reward. The last time oil hit $120 the oil reserves activated and sold for 95$

Trump handled the issues the same way with Iran in his first term, and then changed this term. So prior actions don't govern future behavior. The plan under Biden and Kamala was to send in a coalition of the willing of France and the U.K. that would have inevitably sparked a global nuclear war and U.S. intervention. They wanted to destroy Russia by any means necessary including closing up the Baltic, creating a naval blockade that would have also sparked a nuclear war.

Very bad people with malign intentions. Nothing good would have come of them in the foreign policy arena had they had 4 more years to work out their plans.

Sell a call sell a put. It's called an iron condor
If I sell a put and the sotck drops then my put is more to buy back but my call is less to buy back so it evens out. You loose money if there's a big enough jump beyond the put or call you sold but profit if it stays inbetween. This is what shorting volaility is, you don't think stocks will move beyond their expected moves. Tastytrade is a good metric if you want to learn more about options.

>Kalshi prediction market was sued for a failure to pay out $54 million to people who bet that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would leave office before March 1, 2026, according to a class action lawsuit filed on Thursday.

>Kalshi customers were drawn to the "Khamenei Market" because of the fluid geopolitical circumstances, the lawsuit said. However, the complaint added, it was not until after Iranian leader was killed that the company invoked a "death carveout" provision to avoid paying customers what they were owed.

>The company's CEO, Tarek Mansour, on Saturday defended the company's death carveout, saying it "keeps the rules simple." Mansour said Kalshi would reimburse all fees from the Khamenei market.

Iran refused to come to the table in Syria for a decade and turned the country into a civil-war filled failed state, only to betray Bashar Al-Assad when he needed them most. Iran turned Gaza into a jihadist enclave controlled by warlords and constantly encouraged militarization and struggle rather than negotiation and peace, and did nothing to save them from Israeli retaliation. Lebanon has been devoured from within by Hezbollah for decades and is now also a failed state like Syria and Gaza, with Iran encouraging war, jihad, and bloodshed rather than moderation and diplomatic resolutions the entire time. Yemen is also a failed state under Iranian tutelage simply to spite the Gulf Arab states that could have invested in it and rebuilt it if Iran permitted them. Iraq is also a failed state under the direction of Iranian controlled proxies.

Now Iran is being bombed and has no one to help it because it caused all its allies to destroy their countries, their infrastructure, and their diplomatic relations in the name of a quixotic jihad that could never succeed against two nuclear-armed states. Both Russia and China manage to keep at least neutral and even good relations with Israel and the Gulf States, but despite having no nukes Iran has had the audacity to provoke them and the U.S. for several decades.

Iran is now dealing with the consequences of its actions.

Trump has shown the world that the U.S. is the only safe place to live, trade, and invest. There are two worlds : the United States, and the world outside the United States. In the former your investments are secure and your security is guaranteed by the strongest military force the world has ever witnessed. In the latter life is nasty, brutish, and short and whatever wealth you have can be bombed or sanctioned away at any moment. Anybody who parks wealth outside America has made a fatal mistake, we will no longer guarantee their security as we've been doing for the past decades. So Europe will fall, Japan will fall, Korea will fall, the Gulf States will fall, and America will rise again as the center of global production and prosperity.

Truly, the Golden Age has begun.

Almost none of the things happening are bad for the United States.
This isn't the 70's anymore. I think this is mainly an Asian crisis.

The US is an exporter of just about every affected commodity: crude, LNG, refined fuel, coal, fertilizers.
American petrochemical plants are designed to run on Ethane, not Naphtha. Some European and Chinese plants are also geared towards Ethane, and rely on US imports.

In fact the US is an exporter of naphtha, which is what Asian petchem plants crave.

But one thing I keep in the back of my mind is that what is happening cannot be easily reversed. There is no "TACO trade". Some of the damage being done takes months to undo, you can't just press a button to restart a smelter or a refinery. If the market turns south it might not snap back instantly like it did last April.

I know it's hard to accept but the only people who economic downturns hurt in the U.S. (we have the best economy in world history even at our worst) are those who never made any serious effort in their lives to make themselves useful and think they can ride off one skill, one trade, or the goodwill of one corporation, forever with no savings and living at the limit or even beyond their means. Yes, this is the majority of Americans. But they have to take this downturn as a lesson to do better, learn more, work more, rebuild multi-generational households, grow closer to family, embrace marriage and traditional values, rather than having a temper tantrum about having to make real effort in life or no longer being able to afford atomic individualism or no longer being able to have have a single cushy lifetime office job.

You are losing your mind. Anon, when someone uses AI constantly, it can start to blur the line between human and machine creativity in their mind. If every piece of writing, art, or idea begins to feel like it might be AI-generated, it can create unnecessary doubt and make it harder to appreciate genuine human effort. Taking a break from AI can help reset that perspective, allowing someone to reconnect with human creativity, trust their own judgment again, and enjoy content without constantly questioning its origin. Stepping away for a while can restore balance between using technology as a helpful tool and recognizing the value of authentic human expression. I suppose that’s AI too, right?

Current earnings are through the roof because of disruption, but the truth is there are fewer cargoes to go around.
When Russia happened they went ballistic because actual cargo tonne miles increased. Instead of Russian crude going to European refineries, you had Russian crude going to Indian and Chinese refineries who then shipped refined fuel back to Europe.

If you think about it there is not going to be an increase in cargoes or tonne miles from the Iran war. Maybe Asia imports more long haul oil from the US and Brazil but that does not make up for losing 20% of the market which is behind Hormuz.

I don't like the setup.

Once Israel has regained the land it has a de jure right to (up to about Sidon in Lebanon) as its own once again, you will be shocked at just how fast peace is reached.

If you look at conflict map on live map, Israeli air/mortar strikes almost exactly trace out the northern border of the land which belonged to the 12 tribes.

The Iran objective is finished but it can’t end yet because Israel still lacks some of its historical territory it aims to take back from the Arabs which took it form them.

I already explained why trump joined.

If he’s was a part of it he has more control than if he let Israel do it on its own, in which case he would have no say and it would also take much longer.

Interesting definition of surrender he’s using there

GOP only wins on low voter turnout. We have millions of illiterates that stay home from elections every year because it doesn't affect them personally. If Trump causes a stock market crash that throws them out of their jobs they WILL go to the polls, another 2008 will happen and the GOP will be destroyed.

His only way out is to leave Iran or implement a military dictatorship here at home. Midterms will probably be the watershed moment that forces his hand in either direction.

Or you know, Trump could cleanse the world of Jihadism, and bring peace to the middle east that leads to a red wave and super majority in the house and senate so we can finally repeal the 13th amendment and enter the "Golden Age" boss.
