I think I'll rotate from energy and petrochemical longs into semiconductor and AI shorts when the US commits to a ground invasion of Iran. That will probably be the top of oil, and it will transition us into the next phase of this clusterfuck, which is China invading an undefended Taiwan and annihilating the US economy with a semiconductor embargo.

There's literally no other way to restore the flow of oil, unless Trump is going to pay Iran war reparations and remove all of the sanctions like they're asking. He might be deranged enough to try nuking their facilities, but that would unironically trigger a nuclear exchange with Pakistan that would likely escalate into nuclear WW3. Buy the oil dip before we squeeze to $250.

saudis have the east west pipeline
digging a canal through the UAE/oman isn't worth it because you're still in striking range and the water isn't deep enough there for super tankers
finally, the strait has never been closed before, even during the middle east wars and embargoes, so why worry about something that isn't going to happen?
>>
>>61972527
they all just naively assumed that Iran would never actually try it and if they did America would easily curbstomp the problem
but yes I suspect there will be a ton of pipelines built in the next decade to make the straight problem less of a problem.
it's a bit of a pyrrhic victory for Iran if they can stalemate this because the hormuz card won't be available next time even if they survive imo

The global strategic oil reserves in total can compensate the missing 20 million barrels from the gulf region for around 3 months before it runs dry and the price of oil is not a simple oil in oil out calculation. And it's global. So ask yourself what is the level of determination of the iranian people. I personally think they are pretty fucking pissed.

>>
I kind of love it, since it makes people so mad

dummies get shaken out, thinking their thesis was so incredible and then NOPE trump does thing and it's all over

this could have happened anyway, and people should be prepared for it. but they aren't.
so they lose money and get to blame trump for their own mistakes

we are about to see this with the "physical oil" math guys, who can assure us that every time oil goes up that's because of super serious fundamentals that are rock solid. and when the line goes down... then... hmmm.
Guess those fundamentals don't matter for shit in this market.

and people should know that, and make decisions accordingly.

un-iranically, those with incredible hubris or lack of empathy for others are losing money. they can't handle their precious idea being wrong. Or accepting the fact that everyone else decides the price, not you. some humility and understanding of mass psychology goes a long way

but it is what it is. it's just silver all over again. they had super serious fundamentals too.

Okay lets make it a little more clear.
Imagine you have a town with 10 hobbits that live in the middle of a desert.

Each day, 5 magic camels come that delivers sugar spice and everything nice! And also water. They carry enough for 2 hobbits each.

Now imagine one of these magic camels dies.
There is only enough sugar, spice and water for 8 people.

What do you think will happen to the price of sugar?
What do you think will happen to the price of spice?
What do you think will happen to the price of WATER?

>>Or accepting the fact that everyone else decides the price
>Unironically and with fullest sincerity, the dumbest things I have ever read on /biz/.
>The stock market is not a democracy.
that is how it works though

You do not decide the price. The market decides the price. you can call that "democracy" if you want. That's not the word I used.

But the point remains the same. And this is something some people here, who get really really upset when things don't go their way don't get.

You do not decide the price. Your calm rational analysis of the facts and figures. your irrational emotions. None of that matters.
What determines the price is what everyone ELSE thinks. This is called "the market".

When you buy a stock, or anything else, you are betting on your understanding of mass psychology. When it doesn't go your way, YOU ARE WRONG. When you lose money on the stock market, or crypto, or gold, or real estate, or the oil niggers, it is your fault. You made a bet, it didn't work out. This means you were wrong.

And some people can't handle that, blame everyone else and quit. Others learn a lesson, figure out what they can do differently so they stop losing money, and make money instead, and they do a lot better.

The price is decided by maybe 2-3000 people who control the vast majority of the money in the market.

The price is not decided by "everyone".

You could say that "everyone" is bearish on a stock, this matters not in the least if one fund manager is willing to pay more for it than the current market price.

You can have 400,000 reddit idiots making up 99.9999% of the people involved in a stock, and the 5 people who run funds will still have control over that stocks price, because they control 99.9999% of the actual money involved.
>>

>I bought them when it was at 120.
i have been looking to buy shorts on this level too
seems like the short term top of the range we are trading in
go long at 80, go short at 120. seems pretty straight forward
until the situation changes, when the oil embargo is lifted
then we go back down to what 65-90 or something? what was it before then
oh wait I forget, uso is super inflated to the actual price of oil.

in any case, the longs bought at 80 90 or even 100 (heaven forbid!) will get wrecked once that happens.
though shorts bought at 120 will still be great
looking at buying the inverse oil etf as a easy way to do it.

>The price is decided by maybe 2-3000 people who control the vast majority of the money in the market.
>The price is not decided by "everyone".
You can get pedantic about it, and try to put words in my mouth like "democracy" or whatever
Some guy holding 500 bucks of the gold etf does not have much pricing power
That's the point
You as an individual do not set the price. "Everyone else" does.
I did not say everyone gets an equal vote. There are some institutions who have a lot more than 10 shares of SCHD or whatever to their name, and their actions affect the price more than whatever some individual retail investor does.

The main point is that you DO NOT SET THE PRICE. You do not matter. Your thoughts, your analysis, your feelings, what you think the fundamentals are, none of that matters.

"Everyone else", meaning "not you", meaning "the market", sets the price. That's everyone who is not you.
I never said everyone gets an equal vote, and I never said "democracy" or something like that.

buying an inverse etf doesn't have this problem right?
I know if everyone else is buying shorts then they become more expensive.
does that mean the inverse etf has more decay rate then or somehting? I know they are basically doing the same thing but under the hood as shorting
and the 2x or 3x leverage etfs have decay because they have to pay interest, exactly the same as an individual using leverage

Premiums have more to do with implied volatility, not really how many people buying.
Inverse ETFs are usually bad and only work short term because over time they always lose value. Youd only get an Inverse ETF if you think there will be a big drop in like the next week as a hedge, not usually for profits.

analysis does matter it's just not the end all. there's lots of moving parts. you're trying to equate it to gambling it seems. it can be but it's not unless you're playing the market as you would a casino. with gambling you can't do better than the odds. with investing there's endless ways to reduce risk not present in gambling.

Any stock in particular? I mean the 4 largest dow stocks are all tech stocks, then youve got walmart, jp morgan, visa, johnson&johnson, chevron (which just hit all time highs), proctor&gamble, coke, caterpillar, cisco etc etc (these companies are all listed by their weighting in the dow)

If anything youd think the iran thing might be a boon for the dow in some ways, its just surprising that its tanking so much comparatively, I just looked at all 30 stocks on there and cant see any obvious stocks that would be extra sensitive to this, which ones do you think it is?

>analysis does matter it's just not the end all. there's lots of moving parts. you're trying to equate it to gambling it seems.
I agree that analysis does matter, but at the end of the day, buying stocks is gambling
You are making a bet that your understanding of mass psychology is correct

take value investing for instance which is the most boring example of "calm analysis". you calculate the intrinsic value of a stock. You see it is "undervalued". So you buy it.
You are betting that, 1, you are right and the market is currently wrong, and 2, the market someday will come around to seeing it your way and the price of the stock will go up to reflect the fundamentals or intrinsic value or whatever

That 2nd part is the problem. So what if the stock is "undervalued"? what if the market remains irrational? The problem with people who rely on fundamentals, especially if they are contrarians, is that they expect they know better than the market but that some day the market will see it their way.
And you really can't depend on the behavior of other people.
so ultimately it's still gambling. You are betting on mass psychology, and implicitly assuming that you understand mass psychology and you will make money off that

Otherwise, markets are perfectly rational and everything is priced in, the price never changes, and everyone perfectly and fairly evaluates companies so there would be no advantage to being a value investor, for example.

You said "everyone".

In the past it was somewhat true but wealth is much more concentrated now then it was in the past.

The market is made up of around 2000 people globally inside the the trading house, and millions and millions of homeless people loudly banging on the windows from the outside.

>You said "everyone".
seems like you keep getting stuck on this semantic argument. I'm going to repeat my main point.

You do not set the price. your thoughts, your feelings, your calm rational analysis, your irrational euphoria or panic mean absolutely nothing.

Everyone else, meaning "the market", meaning "not you" sets the price. If you want to get pedantic about the distinctions between "everyone" "everyone else" and "the market" then okay great.

The main point stands. YOU do not set the price. Everyone else does. You can talk about how concentrated that pricing power is, and how some dude with 500 bucks in the gold etf does not have much pricing power, then okay great. That doesn't change anything. You do not set the price. Everyone else does.

iran is ethnically fractious though, persians dominate the ruling party but there are a lot of arabs and kurds baluchis and azeris and probably others, so there is an opposition, it's just a matter if they see opportunity. i'm just unsure if they really were mass protesting before this started or if that was propaganda, but there have been a lot of protests in iran over the last decade. it is conceivable that you could get breakaway regions in the north and west, if not a full blown civil war. and if there's food or water shortages all bets are off.

Allowed Russian oil, can transit Hormuz.
Nice little earner.
>>
>>61973312
no, seems like they would send the fresh sailors into the strait, rotate the one in the arabian sea home, replace it with the one in the red sea underway and start a rotation like that.

>US PRESIDENT TRUMP ON TRUTH

>"The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money. BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stoping an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World. I won’t ever let that happen! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP"

Hoping market will hold together that long though seems futile.

So, he's not trying to keep prices down anymore.
Cheers orange man.

He'll try to turn anything into a win. It's clearly to overshadow higher gasprices. That's what he advocated for. Now he obviously will say it's actually good for the US. He just used the term "we", but everybody knows who "we" is. And that's not even antisemitic, I just mean the oil companies. He's socializing, nationalizing the profits.

>Hey MAGAmaniacs, WE are making so MUCH money right now haha. Stay strong!

Rtx and Lockheed will for sure have nice earnings coming up, both Israel and America will need to stock up on everything used in Iran. BAE has been pumping for a while, I sold expecting some correction in the market but I will for sure buy again in a month or so. I’m currently long on SAAB as well, they have all of 2026 fully booked on orders plus Lockheed will be looking at building artillery bases in Sweden as per Bloomberg yesterday which is in Saabs ballpark. I expect them to reach $100 this year easily

This shit was solved with covid. Just show lots of water around the fire and give the primordial man some soma. Then humiliate him with getting his wife bred by foreigners. Problem solved.
