oil stocks are a bad investment because it's worse than any shitcoin, memestock or hot hyped stock like Apple, Amazon, Micron or Google. If oil does go to 150 a barrel it will only be briefly and then violently collapse to 30 as the market goes down 70% and demand falls to basically negatives.

I've been wondering this myself. the big breakout was the 2017 paper. basically everything since then has been scaling. we are 6 months away from modern LLMs being a decade old and they are starting to S curve in returns. when and where is the next big architecture/hardware breakout?

Even if a revolutionary tech comes out tomorrow that slashes the amount of memory needed to train AI in half, I think it’d be wrong to assume demand would plummet with it instead of hyperscalers just increasing demand further because it became more efficient

I guess it just boils down to whether you think AI is a meme or you think humanity will make a Faustian bargain and summon a machine god into existence in the coming decades. I tend to lean toward the latter

ive sold over half by now but a good chunk of that was at $1.5 last year, and around $2 to $2.5 before it started dumping back to where it is now

if i had somehow held on and sold it all at the peak last year then yeah id barely be a millionaire (in loonie dollars tho lol), obviously theres no way i could ever time that so my goal was just to keep trimming at set times as it kept going up, with a time limit eventually to just exit out entirely regardless of the price.
my exit strategy has end of 2027 as the deadline because of the FRA mandate deadline on trains in US, unless the FRA mandate deadline gets extended since a bunch of transits have not even put out an rfp to equip their trains with ai dashcams yet

You can start an LLC in the US and get a EIN and pay yourself. It's cheap
Some anon said that most banks count brokerage transfers and transfers from one bank to another as direct deposit.
There's a site called doctor of credit he goes over all of this stuff. You can get a decent amount of cash doing credit card and bank account rewards.
You can get credit cards with cashback/sign up bonus and use the credit card to buy casino chips on online casinos and you can see where I'm going with this.

like subcontractors? i dont think there are any that are publicly traded, RedFort Tech for example is installing ai dashcams on SEPTA trains
a similar arrangement might happen for MTA later on

i dunno if you'd even want to invest in subcontractors. ai dashcams was initially just a boring camera company with maybe 40-50% gross margins at best, their growth inflection point happened because they're also turning into a data services company.
the data center they just built in 2024 should be filled up with measly ~15% capacity by end of this year (from basically 0% to 7% capacity last year), but even this early development is what pushes their data center from ~70% gross margin now to 90%+ right away. The data part is whats exciting and they proved it Q3 that the whole ai data center thing is actually profitable (run rate of 0.08 eps annually minimum if they sustain Q3 performance, around 2022-2024 they only did like 0.02 eps each year)
once they fill up their data center it should contribute around 0.15 eps annually alone on top of their hardware revenue

we have those in canada too, payroll promos basically, you could technically switch a round different banks every couple years, prob ~2 hours of work for $500 basically, but the real gold is with broker transfer promos

im in canada and i switched to webull canada for their 2% promo when my tfsa was worth around cad$500k, they are paying me cad$10k over a year just for moving my stocks to them, like self-directed stocks, theyre not getting 1% or 2% fees some bullshit managed investing from me

this is prob why Webull's financials are not profitable right now lmao
wealthsimple also gave me a free iphone 15 a while back just for transferring $100k+ to them before
there are hold periods though so if i withdrew my money out of webull right now i basically forfeit the remaining $4k of my payout and only collect $6k in the end. prob not gonna repeat this again since i prob want to start spending for a house next year

Odds are not in favor of bulls...

But you can easily trade the downside also, you're not stuck in huge positions like the big dawgs.

Even just a few trades then a slurp once vix hits 30ish would give ya elite returns if ya step away after the slurp, or just trade teeny amounts fo fun.

Idk if I'm gonna swing big but I gots to exit my vix calls first, or pay tuition to Ms market if they stall the selling.

Just don't stress out a bunch, will ya? This won't be your last rodeo, so enjoy the ride :)

How you getting the net positive? I know in at least 2008 the market went down the year after.

But that's besides the point, what matters is the trend, if ya fight it ya done, and sure we could go gangbusters the rest the year, but way too many hurdles to clear outside of Iran, trend points flat or down.

I'd also wait for a good leg down also, Ms market gonna tease the frik outta us, so we ice her out also, only join when it gets in motion.

it's up around 15% YTD
even with most of those drawdowns, that's still above a negative year, unless that last column represents the final YTD value
the trend is obviously not that positive given that the useless fed isn't hiking, precisely due to the midterms, and the fact the market shits the bed every other quarter with earnings like they're drug-addled volatility junkies
the administration is also actively making things worse, which means on a net basis as soon as they stop being able to do anything things will get better

Anyone else feel like it's better to spend money on other things than invest at Shiller P/E >40 ?

while stocks are relatively expensive, blindly comparing Shiller is pretending the monetary and financial conditions of decades ago are exactly equivalent to today when the top companies have 50% margins they could recover the moment they stop blowing their load on capex

Ya up 15% only needs a 13% pullback to get ya back at even. And with how fake and gay Errybody be pricing shih, 13% down sounds like the best case scenario.

Just don't fight the trend, reasons and explanations mean jack fo yo trades, be water and you'll be fine in this upcoming period.

I hate to see anyone think that you have to either be a bull or bear, be neither, just hop on the trend when it appears, it's the biggest advantage retail has, we never trade market moving orders, so if ya fight the trend one day, cut yo losses wait for the next move. It's never over for us retail bois, unless ya leverage everything.

The market a slot machine that moves in patterns, and the casino will never kick ya out for just observing and learning.

I would start to have a sense of urgency in deleveraging, but also i'm always preaching deleveraging, once got into a big spat with babeposter (I call him intc bro) about his leverage, but he's still neck deep and in Europe right now, might miss all the warning shots.

I hate that all these companies give out margin so easily, without at least putting a function in that simulates how much of a downturn ya need to get margin called.
And funny thing, you get all the risk, they can write off or sell off your debt, walk away from retails rubble with a nice bonus.

The only way to win against them is to never leverage and then ride the trends they create, it's a simple game but they get ya to forget that with flashy casino lights and sounds, nope just learn how trends form and hop on tis that simple.

Crude is at low supply and crack is already decoupled from crude. The AI bubble pop will coincide with a 1970s era stagflation oil crisis. Unless demand is destroyed, energy is destined to soar and then not crash until things normalize. We're not living in a covid-era stay inside mode, so demand is not going to crash unless everyone suddenly becomes unemployed.
>>
>>62549192
>so demand is not going to crash unless everyone suddenly becomes unemployed.
That's were you might be wrong in how it turns out. You're betting on a stagflation, which might very well what happens. One can also very reasonably bet on a full blown depression, in which case you'll see demand crashing.

Depression would be money supply contracts. Very unlikely. It's more likely for the governments to keep kicking the can, using gold revaluation to pay off debt to make the can kick further. After that inevitably fails, anything could happen, even complete collapse and balkanization, but there will be a little more warning for that.

Let me tell you guys a great ETF

NTSD. 1.5x leveraged .35% fees, and minuscule drag

This is basically what it is:
90% SPY, and 60% EFA, for a total of 150% exposure. It being 90% SPY and 60% EFA smooths out much of the leveraged volatility.

You could full port it, and nothing could go wrong. It has twice the performance of QQQ without the concentration risk of QQQ, and only 3.8 percentage points more volatile than QQQ

I highly recommend NTSD.

nothing about META has changed ever since they annouced extra spending on AI starting at jan 2025 (meaning that shit was mooning even though their income streams were ancient, and its only gotten better overtime) and ever since then we've just been in a giant crab/range and currently we're near the bottom of that range ontop of a near 50% pullback from ATH

thats the best DCA spot ive ever seen, MSFT is to boomers as META is to zoomers, social media isnt going anywhere and the ads are just gonna get more effective at targeting individuals with all the trackers zuck has dispersed on the internet

you dont have to all in, but at least put in a small position. zuck is always part of a new label, FAANG, FAAMG, mag 7, etc.
>>
>>62549506
I think that the lawsuits are also rocking Meta currently. Seems more problematic than the AI spending personally. Not that I think I'll end up being a massive issue, but it's a massive unknown that could turn to huge downside.

the anthropic lawsuit is still ongoing (they scraped their shit for FREE) and their stock dropped like a rock because the market thinks google can strong arm the negotiations to buy access rights dirt cheap.
facebook isn't reddit but you have to understand that facebook data is way less valuable than reddit's for LLMs, it's mostly for marketing and consumer profiling. reddit is one of the most cited sources of data on the internet and it gets like $60 million a year to have unlimited access to their data, which will only get cheaper because the incremental data volume is much less.

>Bank of America strategist Michael Hartnett is urging investors to rotate away from risk assets, warning that a Federal Reserve he characterizes as "nakedly dovish" will force financial conditions to keep tightening until a far more aggressive policy stance restores its credibility.
>"Fed nakedly dovish, so financial conditions to continue to tighten until Fed forced to restore credibility via aggressive hikes," Hartnett wrote, pinpointing August 28 as the critical inflection date. That is when Kevin Warsh is expected at the Jackson Hole symposium, an event Hartnett frames as a potential pivot point through rising yields.

I went through an IPO with my company and I have made a small fortune off the stock. My only advice is that if they are RSU's and you are American is that you always sell at least enough to cover the taxes. They're immediately taxed on your W-2, and if the stocks pumps, you get a grant, and it dumps... you can be left holding a significant tax bill without the ability to even cash out and cover it. Saw it happen at my company because people diamond handed the stock.

They all do. That's how it works. But you can still get fucked believe me. I work with people that owed the government 50k and their stock was worth less than that. My company is an extreme pump and dump example but you should always be wary.

My company sells to withhold around 24% but my marginal rate is higher than that. So I always owe money at the end of the year.
>>
>>62549675

I'm in one of those blue chip companies whose shares don't keep up with inflation, always tank on good earnings call, and pump incidentally when the adjacent industry pumps
it's in a lot of the boomer divvie ETFs because it hasn't failed pay them out in like 20 years or something
they are hyper stingy with their RSUs and I just sell them all as soon as they hit the long term tax bracket
>>
>>62549691
>>62549694
My philosophy is that because the RSU's are treated as income, I treat them as income. I always sell the entire stack the day the window opens. I'm still long my company because I have unvested shares, and I depend on them for my salary and benefits. I'd rather take the money and throw it in SPY than have an all-in bet on my employer.
>>
>>62549706
This is the sensible thing to do since you were already taxed at that cost basis, so selling or rotating is tax free. I believe my company is undervalued though so I've actually never sold a share. Ever.
>>
>>62549706
I know a guy who truly went all in on the company, held his RSUs for his entire employment history, even participated in the annual employee discounts for share purchases
the principal amount is still there because it's a forever crab company, and I imagine the divvies are quite sizable
I don't think I would be able to sleep at night being that risky and eating taxable events regularly like that , but he seems to be convinced that it's the way to go until retirement
>>
>>62549716
>>62549719
Depends on the company I guess. If they are undervalued and you are a believer, then it makes sense to hold shares. My company's stock has had the shit beaten out of it since the pump, and we're not growing anymore really.

Depends upon the prospects and financials. PLTR used to highly unprofitable and look where we're now. The issue to me is that the LLM's don't seem to have much of a moat anyway and while they may survive and thrive they may be eaten up by the open source models or the competition. He promised trump he’d only pretend to raise rates, maybe even sneakily lower them.
He told everyone else, including some of his colleagues, that he would raise them.
Now he’s stuck in paralysis and his first instinct seems to be close the doors to the everyone so he can rig things in a way everyone thinks they’re getting what they want.
That still won’t stop dissenters, like the three who basically called him a cuck last FOMC.

you didnt buy because u didnt have the confidence, thats it
you were afraid it would go lower duh

this is why people learn valuation and fundamentals as a backup
while theres a bunch of stocks that act basically like lottery tickets, everyone else is still valued based on the underlying business

say if the price of rent is $2k a month, so like $24K a year in ur area, then most people usually equate the fair value of those houses around $500k to buy.
when a boomer landlord wants to buy a 2nd house for rental income, they see a house in this area is selling for $700k or $900k while it costs only $2k to rent then people call it overvalued and just look elsewhere, there's like 10000+ other options to look at, theyre not gonna tunnel vision in the garbage overpriced house.
the opposite as well when they start to see house go for like $300k but the rents stay the same, then they buy, they don't give a shit even if they see more houses go down to $250k after they buy, because they own an actual asset that will give them a good income

do you see where im going with this, thats basically like those boomer dividend stocks

valuation matters to an extent in the stock market, people can make money focusing on stuff like this even staying out of hype stocks that move by "popular vote", and likewise even if ur doing a trade on technicals whatever voodoo you want to follow, at least if you mess up, the company's cheap as fk anyways so you probably make money by just holding at least 18 months out. like that dude buffet said, short term is a voting machine, long term is a weighing machine
