is being into cosplay at age 30+ cringe?
I don't mean token master roshi boomer
>>
>>10843944
Depends on your cosplay. A 37 yo man dressed as Naruto is a bit cringe ngl but if you're doing a Wesker cosplay from Resident Evil or something then thats extremely based
>>
you're closer in age to a 3000yo demon loli that a 19yo is poorly cosplaying as, so no, not cringe
>>
>>10843947
It's about your level of taste and acting your age. There are plenty of cosplayers over 30 who aren't cringe at all. Most people who are older also have more money to invest into cosplay and materials, so they can make more complex and sophisticated builds than teenagers.
>>
>>10843944
Anyone who's over 25 should frankly stop going to cons
>>
>>10843944
It'll be cringe if you try to cosplay young characters. Stick to adult characters and you'll be cool.
>>
>>10843954
Cons are for 40 year olds to talk about episode production trivia
Soon you'll understand too
>>
If you are a man its ok
If you are a woman its cringe

If you LOOK 30+ irl yes.

nonwhites and gifted whites get a longer shelf life
>>
>>10844128
Arabs and hispanics age even worse than whites and pajeets are just ugly.
>>
>>10844128
>>10844135
Also black men only age a little bit better than white men on average and black women don't age any better and because of how dark their skin is and their facial features they make any serious cosplay look silly. Since south east asians are usually ugly and too short the only desirably races to be are chinese, koreans, japanese or pacific islanders, or gifted white.

are you kidding? just look at all the gross old white people. whats with the old lady cut?

poor anything ages bad, and by poor I mean people who can't figure out how to do shit and just sort of "give up" on themselves. gross.

''muh world noo she is not a korean but colombian? nooooooooo''

I dont think it's cringe unless you're doing cringe shit. It's not so much the costume, but the actual play part of cosplay that makes it cringe. Fuck I hate autistic cosplay skits and cringy faggots that think they're Kirito. Like bro, you're a balding 40 year old man, please develop yourself beyond a 14 year old.
>>
Why would you be cosplaying after 25? You should at least be married and having a child or two on the way by that time, at the very latest 28 (if you look young). People don't want to see fat balding males at cons who failed at life.
>>
>>10844576
con population used to be predominantly fat balding males respect your elders retarded zoomer because one day you will undoubtedly be a fat balding male who has failed at life
>>
How many of these threads do we need? Just go you faggot. In my experiences, the coolest and chillest people I meet at cons are those in their late 20s to 30s.
>>
>>10843944
Only shitheads think that.

Are you a shithead?
>>
>>10843954
Dumb , over 25 is the people who actually have money $ to buy stuff and sustain the CON, not the teenager who don't buy shit and don't use deodorant

Cosplaying over 18 is probably cringe.
Last time I cosplayed I was 16. Nowadays I only dig watching quality cosplays from japan and that's it.
>>
>>10843947
It also depends on how old you look. Some people just don't age at all and are pushing 40 yet they still look like they're in college.
>>
>>10844781
This. A lot of this.
>hanging out with someone at Katsu
>could have sworn they weren't old enough to drink was carded at every bar we went to
>turns out they were 34
>friends who are 23-25
>never got carded everyone thought they were closer to 30
>happened without makeup or cosplay on as well

We're even past the point of "Those goddang kids who just wanna look at their phones all day". Most of these types struggle to form a coherent statement anymore.
>>
>>10844781
100%. Met my GF in college, same age as me. She still gets mistaken for high school/college sometimes, always petite including face. I look young-20s. We're both early 30s.
We just go and enjoy ourselves and have the funds finally to actually cosplay right. No one bats an eye, and we aren't creeps (both /fit/ and hygenic, just got for the fun, etc). We've had no problem just being part of the fun crowd, joining up with random cosplayers, all that good stuff. My brother is about my age, and he's just an obvious lovable fat nerd with his husband, super inoffensive and magnetic personality so everyone just loves the shit out of him no matter age.
Meanwhile I see mid-20s dudes who obviously don't take care of themselves, walked out of their man-cave in their moms basement for the first time in 3 years, greasy dudes with 0 social awareness creeping everyone out. And then I see a literal Rick Grimes lookalike to the point I thought it was Andrew Lincoln, like literal 100% identical, and he was cool as shit and everyone loved him.
It's all about who you are honestly.
>>
>>10844992
not really what I meant, they're more "we love to stir drama shit up all the time and I act like a total bitch because I self diagnosed myself with autism"

pretty much every shitty fanbase is because there's too many tiktok/tumblr kids in it, like MHA, danganronpa, etc etc.
>>
>>10845003
Impressive humbebrag, I wonder if you're truly as youthful and socially normal as you think you are
>>
>>10845099
Fair enough. Of course, what you're describing is much worse, but it also seems region-specific. In one area, the younger types don't seem to indulge in much stirring of the drama pot, in others you'll even have the older crowds do it. Not a good look for either one, and yes, how mainstream a series gets seems to correlate with that perfectly.
>>
>>10844135
I dunno bruh, I've seen too many Lebanese MILFs to believe this.

people can do whatever the fuck they want as long as 1) it doesn't break a law, 2) they don't hurt others against their will.

"Cringe" is telling others what they can or should do.

I'm not a cosplayer but one of my friends is. When we met in uni nearly 10 years ago I thought it was cool that she was a cosplayers sewing her own costumes and cutting her own wigs, and we went to cons together from time to time. Now we're nearly 30 and I can't help but cringe at everything she does that's more or less related to fandoms. It's like she never evolved or matured, it's hard to explain.

For example when she left her small town a few years after graduating to come get a job in our big city, she did it to escape her fucked up family who was stealing her money and she was looking for absolutely any sort of jobs, but she was living rent free for months at another friend's place until she found some retail job, wouldn't stop complaining about how her sister never gave her back 700€ she borrowed or about her previous shit jobs and at the same time she was spending a shit ton of money on fabric and accessories for her mediocre cosplays and and she spent several hundreds of dollars on official FF7R goodies in like one month. She did a cosplay of the female playable character in Pokemon Sun and Moon, participated in a cosplay contest, sent her the video of her skit to everyone in our friends' group and we were all embarrassed by how hard she tried to seem funny and kawaii in her ill fitting cosplay despite being a grown woman. She calls her much younger, barely legal bf her "husbando" irl, out loud, despite our first language being fucking French. Anyway I barely interact with her now for completely unrelated reasons so I have no idea what she's up to. She single-handedly ruined my vision of cosplay with her shit.
>>
>>10853166
seething
i bet her cosplays get a lot of attention at cons, and her husbando creampies her regularly and will give her a good family to do fun arts and crafts and have happy halloweens and costume parties with
>>
>>10853265
Sje doesn't get any success. She met friends that way but it seems they all stopped talking to each other. As for her bf, he's not cute. He's no more than 160cm tall, covered in acne, always has greazy hair, looks like he has down syndrome or is a caveman. I think they started dating because they're roommates and she met him when he wasn't even 18 just yet. He can't even hold a conversation normally.
>>
>>10843944
no. even if it was, why does that matter? no one will look back on their life once they turn 80 and think "i wish i hadn`t done what i enjoy 40 years ago because some randos online thought it was cringe"
>>
>>10853319

You sound extremely butthurt, especially about her boyfriend. Why are you even friends with her if you think so poorly of her? I hope she browses the board and drops your ass.
>>
>>10853475
We met like a decade ago, at this point she fucked over a few friends of ours because of things unrelated to cosplay and since then I lost a lot of respect for her. She did some sketchy things to me too a few times. It's complicated.

>>10853475
>especially about her boyfriend
For some reason the very few times we see each other nowadays she brings him with us and ruin our plans. We want to go to a restaurant and we make a reservation a week in advance for 5 people? She'll bring him without asking, meaning that we can't get the table planned for us and there's no seat left for the boy. We're all nearly 30 in our friend group and she's dating a 19 years old who's less mature than the average 19 years old spoiled brat. He threw a huge tamper tantrum in a middle of a restaurant the very first time we met because a friend of mine didn't know where his tiny shithole was located because she literally was born and raised in a region from the other side of the fucking planet, it was embarrassing to see such behavior in public when you just want to relax. Meanwhile he didn't know where her region was roughly located on the map despite being an very famous touristic island. Keep in mind he was more than an hour late for lunch which ruined our plans for the rest of the afternoon. I think she noticed none of us wanted to babysit her ugly boyfriend so I haven't seen him in a while.

>I hope she browses the board and drops your ass.
I hope so too at that point.
>>
>>10843944
It doesn't matter how old you *are*, it only matters how old you *look*. Have you taken care of your skin, or are you wrinkled? Have you stayed in shape or have you let yourself go? Are you balding? If you are balding, have you shaved it and replaced it with a high quality hair system?
It all comes back to rules 1 and 2. If you're attractive, nothing you do is cringe. If you're unattractive, everything you do is cringe. It's that simple.
>>
>>10845003
>I see mid-20s dudes who obviously don't take care of themselves, walked out of their man-cave in their moms basement for the first time in 3 years, greasy dudes with 0 social awareness

I always yearn to take these dudes aside, get them a haircut, wash them in something that isn't 6-in-1 bodywash, put them in flattering clothing as well one one semi formal outfit, and just a little make up to bring out a feature.

People have so much potential and it seems a real shame to waste your younger years not looking pretty good. Maybe not super workout man bro with 5 products in your hair but at least a good version of yourself before age comes along and robs you of your best potential.

The hard truth is as long as you look hot, or at least good enough, and have some kind of personality that isn't "I haven't showered in 2 weeks and need to tell you about chris chan lore". You can honestly get away with so much it's almost unrealistic to people to tell them what can happen.

It's insane to me the amount of people I know in their 30's who still are better looking and far more welcome to the party than "well at least I'm young" people who attend my friends room parties. Simply being in shape, clean shave, respectful, and knowing how to have a conversation goes a long way in terms of things. Again I know people who are 35 still getting invited to room parties simply because they are chill and know how to have a good time without being a sexpest than those who are 22 with something to "prove" with mommies money.

Ignoring your butthurt, I get it- when a real old woman is acting like a 16 year old, its extremely off putting.
I've met old-ass women (and men, less stigmatized) who were mature and their cosplay were fucking godlike. One was Aristrad's grandma from how to train your dragon, she was a fucking hoot. Just Devilish enough and just awesome. Another was Doc Brown cross-play and she was so fucking cool. Then I ran into a 50-60yo "cutesy schoolgirl" who was so fucking offputting. She was clearly trying to be young while being so fucking immature. There is a local master roshi who just cultivates the bald + beard/mustache and everyone loves him, he's so chill and in his 70s. There's a local Rick Grimes who everyone wants to fuck. It's all about maturity and presentation.

>People have so much potential and it seems a real shame to waste your younger years not looking pretty good
This kills me and I agree 100%. You never realize until you are older how much potential existed if you just put the tiniest amount of effort in. It's the ironic thing of "now that I'm old, I have enough perspective to know just how fucking good I had it when younger...and now its too late".

There a lot of characters who are middle age people, who can be done by 30+ cosplayers
Flashpoint Batman
X Force Cable
Deathtroke
Deadshot
Old man Quill
Old man Logan
Nick Fury
Kingdom Come Superman
Obi Wan Kenobi
The Punisher

All depends on the character and how well the costume is made
Usually they look super well done

If anything anyone below 27 shouldn't be allowed to go to cons. Think of all the non shitty marvel verse, western trash and LGBT pannels there won't be.
>>
there’s a bunch of stupid zoomers in this thread.

Who do you think organizes conventions? It’s not you people, nobody who’s like 24 or younger is a con chair or a div head.

Could you imagine how shitty you kids would run an artists alley? Many can’t even submit good panels let alone run a successful department.

Older fans make the spaces for you to congregate in. We’re probably the ones who run this website for you too.
>>
>>10876332
If you think LGBT panels are a new thing let me tell you about Yaoi slumber parties from 2002
>>
>>10876354
i distinctly remember there being a time period when people were enthusiastically obsessed with androgynous characters and traps, especially trap cosplayers, and crossplay was totally normal. people fucking ate up shit like sailor stars and princess jellyfish and ouran and that twink from soul eater. depending on the fanbase (ie, touhou, or whatever shitty flavour of the month anime teenage girls were into) sometimes the MAJORITY of cosplayers were crossplaying. now we can't go a week without someone shitting up the crossplay thread.

lgbt shit and cross dressers have always existed at cons, we just used to call it yaoi and traps and treated it as fetish material or hobby dedication.

it's only suddenly a problem now because this generation of teens has made their chunibyou phase about queer shit instead of just being weebs or pretending to be vampires or whatever, and general irritation about that was the perfect jumping point for reactionary schizos to convince the con populace that stuff that's been acceptable and present for decades is suddenly dangerous and scary.

tldr: fags are a natural and long standing part of the con ecosystem. you just never noticed because they used different words and you never cared enough to think about it before someone else told you to. calm down, enjoy some femboy asscheeks, and in 5 or 10 years the kids will find some new obnoxious things to have a chunibyou phase about and you can go back to pretending queers don't exist
>>
>>10876367
I used to run those Yaoi slumber parties, trust me I know it's been here for ages and is totally a part of the culture, a lot of the girls I knew squealing over yaoi and cross dressing have come out as trans/lesbian/bi over the years, a lot of the "traps" have fully transitioned.

I think we all saw cons as a safe space to explore our sexuality and experiment with gender expression even if we didn't nessarly realize what we where doing at the time.
Now the youth have a lot more resources and the language to understand what they're doing. The LGBT community has been here longer than most of these people complaining about it.
>>
>>10876375
yeah i'm not sure if it came across but it's irritating as hell when i see /cgl/ posts pretending that queer people in con/cosplay/fashion spaces are some brand new shit that spawned into existence in 2014.

it's always been there, it just had different names, and the majority of people who weren't part of that group either enjoyed the content or didn't think about them at all.

i think part of it is when all this stuff was referred to with fetish/meme/fandom trope terminology, there was a sort of plausible deniability where you could, either as a consumer of the content or a producer of it, rationalise it as separate from queer shit or use that as a cover to remain closeted.

now that people are using the PC language, that dissonance doesn't work anymore. you're forced to reconcile with the idea that content and people you viewed as just doing a performance are actually queer full time. the sudden visibility leads to full gay panic. it also means annoying cringe bs that would've been written off years ago as autism instead gets a full spotlight and becomes an example of how the con scene is Contaminated now.

yknow, as if we didn't have a whole era of shit like yaoi paddles and body pillows or those grey motherfuckers getting makeup everywhere.

>>
>>10876396
>it's always been there, it just had different names
It's always been there in but smaller numbers and different in nature. It used to be a joke. Traps were a joke where the punchline was that either you got fooled or your reaction when you found out about it. Now you can't laugh or you'll hate commited a hate crime. And the gay is as subtle as seawater in the ocean. "I AM SOOOO GAAAAY! LOOK AT MY FLAG! LOOK AT ME KISSING ANOTHER BOY/GIRL. ATTEND MY PANELS ABOUT GAY POLITICS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CON SUBJECT. CLAP FOR ME". But yeah, shit didn't start in 2014. It only became unignorable then, and it only escalated.

Since it hasn't been said yet, I'm saying it now. "I'm too old for X thing" means your interests have changed, you're bored with that hobby, you feel there's nothing new to gain from it anymore, the like. It's NOT some pants-on-head-retarded rule, dictating when you're no longer allowed to like something just because you're past an arbitrary age. The only things you can learn from this is how to follow a script (read: autism), to deny yourself what you really want (read: cowardice) and a self-righteous need to bully people into submission (read: a stick up your ass). And of course these are all highly valued traits among people involved in whatever "big boy" hobbies you've used to fill the void.
>>
I know several 30 year olds that cosplay regularly and they honestly look like shit.
All of them are varying degrees of fat and ugly, plus lately they've been almost exclusively cosplaying Genshin Impact which only has tacky designs that can only look good if worn by an idealized anime girl.
They make decent cosplays and are very meticulous and autistic about it, which begs the question of why wouldn't they start working out and eating decently if they want their cosplays to look good because the effort that such a thing would take is not greater than the one they put in making the costumes and doing elaborate makeups.
To top it off they are all fucked in the head in some way. A friend of mine is their friend and they've all separately confided in her that they have depression, extreme insecurities and a bunch of other mental illnesses.

>>10843944
Being into cosplay is cringe, full stop. People who dress up at conventions are widely mocked by society at large for being losers. If you care about what is and isn't cringe, then getting into cosplay at any age is a losing game. However, if you're honest enough with yourself to realize that, as an adult, you can just do things that you like to do, then no, there's no maximum age to cosplay.

What I think you're actually asking is 'can a cosplay look good if you are in your 30s,' and the answer to that is yes. Your age is part of your physical appearance and another data point to inform your choice of who to cosplay

My friends group in America are all in their mid 30's to 40's, dress up and go to cons in cosplay, a few of us still enter costume contests and usually place high in big ones. We also just walk around the con drunk having fun in costume for most of the weekend like we've been doing for 20 years now.

I think this whole idea of cosplay is only for young people comes from people who have never been to a con, been a part of con lifestyle (running events and such) and all they know about cosplayers comes from a handful of tick tock cosplay teens.

Sugar and lack of nutrition ages you like hell. Skip the desserts, ketchup and other foods full of sugar. Eat fermented foods daily, especially with lactobacteria like milk kefir or saurkraut (homemade). Your skin (which is an organ) needs it. Creams and shit are largely a pseudo-replacement for a decent diet.

>is being into cosplay at age 30+ cringe?
1) Anime fandom itself as well as the activity of irl social clubs is aging. You know grandma's weekly knitting club and how no one does that anymore? I find more people 30+ into cosplay than kids these days - kids are into kpop, vloggers and online-only activities.

2) 30+ year olds have the money or mindset to rebuy materials when they fuck up, or even commission shit. My coworkers in their 20s are buying $20 aliexpress costumes. My mindset on life and spending money has changed since my 20s. Also frankly my social and grooming skills have vastly improved since my 20s thanks to work experience.

Check out 70s con photos. All older adults.

A lot of psychological series have older main or side characters, like Monster, Homunculus, Serial Experiments Lain (the agents), Wolf's Rain, Geneshaft, PsychoPass, Paranoia Agent. A lot of action series have characters who wouldn't look out of place when cosplayed by 30+ people, or have "mentor characters" who are older, including Kill La Kill, JoJo, Samurai Flamenco, Rurouni Kenshin, Gintama, Devilman, To Your Eternity.

>>10911042
Looking young is not all it's cracked up to be. I'm 32, already married for 8 years then divorced, have two Master's degrees. People think I'm joking. I still get mistaken for a teen with no life experience on first glance. I get asked if it's a kid or adult fare when I get on the bus. Liquor shops assume my ID is fake. If I walk outside with a backpack during the day people yell at me from their cars to "get back to school". I have been lied to about job openings several times because the staff misassumed my age when I asked in person and thought I looked too young to handle any responsibility (stuff like teaching jobs). 1/3rd of my life is gone and everyone tells me to not even think about my future or fulfilling my life dreams yet because I'm "still so young". Blah blah blah. But, I guess, at least I can still cosplay Shinji Ikari without getting rocks thrown at me.

>>10911039
Yeah, I recc people get second jobs that involve exercise. Housekeeping and laundry are two of the easiest to get. You can also attach weights to your arms, legs and so on during work, normal daily activity, or exercise you actually enjoy like swimming or DDR. Always take the stairs. Bike to work and the supermarket, work at a place with a pool or gym, or live in a place with a mandatory community club membership. Glue weights to household objects you pick up often. Up the level of any exercise you already do or actually like. Do an anime char workout while watching anime, or purposefully plan a muscular cosplay so you feel like you need to get ripped. I used to go to free "private" gyms inside apartment complexes with friends who lived there, and workout to shit like NGE music. Now I even turn picking up dog poop into a calf exercise. Whatever it takes. The hardest part is actually remembering to do it.

Shit man I thought I was the only one who thought like this
The character I've got in mind is fucking jacked and I feel like I absolutely need to get at least some muscle definition to be able to pull it off.

What about a Kamen Rider cosplay? Asking for a friend.

Embrace the fatty and go as a fat character. Own that shit, and then when you get in shape, do that. I believe in you!
>>
>>10843944
No, but go as age appropriate characters. There are plenty of anime with adult casts so you shouldn’t need to go as a 17yo highschooler
>>

Only hispanic WOMEN, and mostly cause they turn into the blueberry girl from willy wonka the second they hit 30z. White women still age the 2nd worst though. Black women age the best, but only cause they’re only dropping one point from a 3 to a 2, lmao

Yaoi paddlers (and yaoi enthusiasts generally were mostly straight women fetishizing gay men, not actual faggots.

American here. If you're older than 25 you're basically not supposed to care too much about anything that doesn't lead to you paying taxes or supporting major corporations. And if you do have hobbies you're supposed to be subtly self deprecating about how "you're not like those people who care to much about it."

The good news is there's a level of not giving a fuck where it just doesn't matter anymore because your chill demeanor is very threatening to the perpetually angry normies who can't get a reaction out of you, and then you're in with all of the other 25+ people who also don't give a fuck (which includes a lot of women, contrary to what some of 4chan would have you believe)

Lol, I'm Hispanic, 37 years old in a couple months but I look way younger, especially since I got my haircut.
I'm doing my first cosplay ever as picrel, mainly because I look like picrel. I haven't even seen Attack on Titan. I've only rewatched Cowboy Bebop amd GTO in the last decade; I'm that much of a boomer.
Stay mad, fags. It's never too late. Unless you're balding, that is.

I already have some grey hair at 29. lol

grey hair is better than bald

I have been watching a middle-aged Japanese woman on youtube who acts a bit mannish by Japanese standards, puts on a shameless amount of makeup and dresses goth. She's not attractive but I want to eat the stink of cigarettes out of her mouth.

>anyone above 25 is close to their grave and should only do boring stuff all the time
People who say this get the worst life crisis once they turn 25 themselves
>>
>>10843965
Holy shit based
>>
>>10906028
Case in point. Nobody wants to see some generic, pretentious, bitch ass Victorian costume on an old hag.

I'm assuming you're poor and young so you could if interested become a mariner and get your AB and work on one. Just don't do steward dept, I doubt eng and deck have that much to do with the passengers beyond tours.
>>
>>10843944
all cosplay is cringe if you let it be
ascend beyond the cringe and you will achieve a power greater than any influencer
i have known this from my youth and will take it to my grave

It might be cringe. but honesty, who the fuck cares. Do what you enjoy. You don't have enough time on this gay earth to be worrying what I or any other retard thinks

>>10843944
Whatever makes you happy Anon.
>>
>>10843944
Only negative thing about cosplaying when you are older is your body is easily tired. When I was in 17, I can cosplay and going around the con all day, and attend next day, but now my back is giving out after 3 hours. Also, seems like younger cosers seems to love drama a bit too much
>>
>>10911042
How curious, I'm 54 but I look 30 despite never have used faggotry such as >>10911039

Yeah but you're black or ugly.
>>
>>10929124
You have good genetics, anon, and/or live in a place with good air, food, and a reasonable amount of sun radiation. Most of us don't, so we have to use the faggotry.

Yes, and now those women think that because they like yaoi (written by women for women) they are secretly gay men in their brain/soul and you're not allowed to laugh or point out how insane that is. It's not the same as it was at all.

Unironically based. But maybe let the young skinny thots that are still somewhat not fully broken in and mentally ill yet to get in for some intermittent eye candy. Body mass index has to be under 20 though, and their body count can't be more than 0. And they can't be entitled either. They can have a minimum of 1 mental illness at baseline, and a maximum of 5 mental illnesses.

>>10843954
But how will sleep with 18 year old girls then?

> zoomers who think cons should be age gated
Do they really think that? Even age hating adults from each other? Why do zoomers infantilize themselves so much?
>>
>>10933701
Diminished responsibility which makes it easier to moralize. You can see through this whole thread (or just talking to one) how they're inconsistent too
>I just finished high school

First time visiting this page and not a cosplayer. As a 42 year old man I will answer: Yes. But caring if something you enjoy is perceived as cringe at 30+ is worse than cringe, if you are nerdy about something embrace that particular form of cringe as your own brand and just be shameless about it, that way it's less cringe even to outsiders.

>>10937013

Then all manga, anime artists, directors, organizers should stop going tons because they are over 25. Your logic is the same as all games are only for younger gamers. Say this again when you reach 26. Make sure you stop being an otaku by 26.
>>
>>10853166
You should see Asian cosplayers in Asia.Although there are many good cosplayers in the west. Seems like if your friend is into other interests/hobbies, it will be the same.
