Machine wash? Anon don't do it! I own quite a few black x white pieces and what I like to do is wash any white collars etc separately in luke warm water by hand, as in, try to keep the rest of the garment out of the water (then very lightly wash the entire piece in cold water afterwards). As for jsks, skirts and other collarless items, I hand wash in cold water, concentrating on areas that may need extra attention such as stains or the armpit area. Aim to spot-clean any white lace or particularly bad stains in advance too, before fully submerging the entire item in water. I always rinse everything thoroughly in cold bath water afterwards. I've never had any problems with this method, although if I'm washing something for the first time, I always test wash a section of the dark fabric for color run - it's easy to tell as clear(ish) water will very obviously change color from any run. You could risk a gentle machine wash with color catchers but I would never do this myself, particularly with burando.

nayrt, I used to hand wash all of my lolita items but then started machine washing cheaper pieces (still cotton), even things with white lace and red and black in the print. That way I found out I can machine wash most of my pieces (I won't machine wash velveteen) as long as I choose the right temperature, program and put in a lot of color catchers for darker colors and reds. It has never resulted in permanent staining/bleeding for me. The worst I ever had to tackle was a black, white and red print with white lace that had probably never been washed before and had terribly yellowed lace. It was a bleeder so I had to wash it 3 times consecutively to make it behave. I went through a lot of color catchers though. The dress came out clean without fading and the lace was finally white.

I'm not saying what you're doing is wrong though. Whatever works for you is good.

Objectively false. Red is the worst because red dye doesn’t fix especially well, but almost all dark coloured cottons will discolour white lace trim over time unless you take precautions to mitigate it.

nayrt but I machine wash colorways and prints that are well known for bleeding color and my lace has never changed color because I followed advice from people in my local comm who already had experience with it. I even fixed yellowed lace on well known color bleed pieces. If you use color catchers, the right machine program and a sensible detergent you won't have any problems. The first few washes of "bleeders" are the most important and most of the issues with dye run happen in this stage when the piece isn't washed the right way. You may need to wash the piece 2 or 3 times consecutively to get rid of most of the unfixed dye.

Hand wash if you want to, there's nothing wrong with it. But machine washing isn't bad in any way and won't lead to discoloration of the lace or other white details if you know what you're doing.

It looks like to me that this is actually a skirt with a (detachable) apron attached, because the skirt portion goes all the way down. afaik all btssbs aprons are shorter than the main pieces.

It could also be an altered piece. If you attach buttons to the inside of the skirt waistband you can add a detachable suspenders and add a heart shaped apron bib. Will only look good if your fabrics match though.

Long answer: many people outside of the board don't consider "idol lolita" lolita either for several reasons, mostly being that the overall themes don't mesh:
1. Idols wear costumes, which innately goes against the idea that lolita isn't a costume.
2. Idols and idol clothing often reveals more skin ie the midriff which many lolitas are against and think disqualifies it from being lolita.
3. Idol outfits are meant to be relatively simple and readable from a distance since they are meant to be worn on stage, while lolita is meant to have many small details.
4. Idol outfits are meant to be kind of disposable as the same costume will not be worn for more than 1 song or tour etc etc- which also goes against lolita as it's meant to be kept and worn a long time or resold.
All of these reasons kind of culminate in idols and lolita not meshing, and is the same reason that "idol lolita" is mostly (if not all) chinese- lolita in china has a lot of emphasis on being costumey or OTT and they have a different mentality when it comes to quality, especially taobao brands.
On top of this, personally I don't understand the appeal. Looking at the outfits I have found labelled "Idol lolita" a lot of it is just simplified themes that are already in lolita: tartan, sailor-esque, marching band, etc. To which I ask: why not just buy lolita that suits those themes instead of looking for specifically "idol" lolita?

Well personally, the appeal for me is the asymmetry of idol lolita dresses. The rest of what you mentioned isn't meant to be "profession/job wear" it's distinctive historical female clothing, the same reason why hime, wa and qi lolita exist. If you want breatheability then consider hoop skirts with a softer layer over them to hide the hoop outlines, or make a cotton petticoat.

Historical petticoats werent really that poofy, they were more like underskirts. You need either to get the volume from the fabric or from the layers. Natural fibers dont sit in the way needed, and historically they used structures like a hoopskirt for shaping.

cotton doesn't have enough structure to hold up a skirt without multiple layers, at which point it won't be breathable anyway. stiff organza is the most breezy since it requires the least layers.

if you're set on natural fibers, you can look into silk chiffon or silk organza. you may still need to starch them or do multiple layers.

I doubt it's a rights issue but I could be wrong. I think it's a financial decision based on how well they think a rerelease would sell. They've made some altered remakes of past prints, namely alice chess, mirabel, slow motion bouquet and sugar bouquet but since I don't pay attention to the kumya prints I'm not sure if they ever rereleased those. I personally really dislike this design, especially the sleeves. I also wouldn't know where to start coording it. Whenever I see a dress design I don't like I always ask myself if putting an apron over it (with the bodice part, not just the lower half) would make it look better. I bought two pairs of Jane Marple OTKs and one pair of Meta ankle socks. The OTKs were really hard to put on, very tight and couldn't get them past my knee. The ankle socks felt a lot stretchier and more comfortable, though I can't say for sure whether I would be able to wear a pair of OTKs with the same ease. I have one of the compact folding ones and use it quite a bit. It is less sturdy that the full sized ones that i have played with but it has held up very well (Probably about 4-5 years old, purchased new) . I don't baby it either. I leave it in my hot car from time to time and the only slight defect now is that there is a tiny bit of plastic kind of curled a tiny bit at the end(like less than a centimeter).It looks like some kind of covering to protect the gold color.

That said I have talked to people who have the full-sized ones who say that overtime the pleather on the handle does wear off. Makes sense, like all pleather does that, but I would be careful about leaving it in hot or humid places too long like you would with any brand bag.

I think they are really cute in person too.

What brand has the tallest over the knee socks?
I am usually all Baby all the time, but their OTKs are under the knee on me. I'm 5'9" and have long legs. It makes the dresses look shorter and ill proportioned on me, but I want options other than ankle length.

Any suggestions? Since Meta has plus sizes in mind do they have more vertical stretch too? I really need cotton lace ones because I am not a fan of mixing cotton and poly lace personally.

I am honestly considering buying Baby socks and harvesting the lace to try to attach to Sock Dreams socks, but I am looking for suggestions before I try that. If anyone has done something similar I would love any tips on that before I go in blind. I can sew but I haven't tried anything like that. Even search terms for techniques to get me on the right track would be wonderful. If I fuck up some generic brand socks it isn't the end of the world at that price point, but you never want to waste good material. But I might need two pairs of matching ankle socks to make it comfortable around a thigh. If we are custom sizing something I want it to be maximum comfortable to be worth the effort.

Matching lace just makes the outfit feel so put together. I know most people don't care too much, but it just makes me feel really put together in a way I like.

Off brands with lace that would be similar to Baby branded lace would also be cool. I have leaned heavy into their solid prints so it's probably not super rare. Also a lot of the cotton cherry (Broderie Anglaise?) lace.

I bought cotton lace and beading lace with ribbon (https://www.etsy.com/listing/235066243/torchon-crochet-knit-lace-trim-by-the) to make my own tall OTKs for shorter Baby skirts as I still wanted socks taller than The Black Ribbon's. I bought a dream dress secondhand from closet child a few months ago. Chocolate rosette jsk, red colorway. I thought it was super cute when it arrived. Have not worn or washed it yet. Just noticed that the print has bled everywhere - all of the little emblem bits have irregular pink splotching. At first I thought they were meant to be pink, it’s only when I noticed that they were all different pinks and some had patches that I realised the print has bled. What worked for me to remove bleeding was just washing the dress in the washing machine, on cold delicate cycle, in a delicates bag with gentle detergent and color catchers. No idea why it worked but Japan does have really harsh detergent that can make things bleed.

Posting here because the AP thread is dead - Does anyone have the re-released Sugar Hearts OTKs? How are they? Last I knew, nu-AP's OTKs were awful and didn't stretch (Topping Heart). I haven't bought any since then, and didn't know if the Sugar Hearts ones were any better.

Something on my wishlist is Q-Pot jewelry, specifically the simpler pieces like a whipped cream ring or pendants shaped like chocolates. However, I don't wear sweet lolita or any cutesy styles that are typically paired with this. My style includes pieces from f.i.n.t. and toned down axes femme pieces(pic related). I occasionally also branch out into Larme outfits and classical lolita. Would getting sweets-themed jewelry make sense, or should I stick to pearls and brass?

Why not? There are no rules to go so matchy-matchy/on theme for toned down styles anyways; a fun ring would be a great addition and an accent piece. I used to slap on a qpot necklace or ring with plain normie outfits because then they really stand out and it's a great fidget throughout the day. Do what brings you joy.

Literally all the shoes and purses I have are dark brown or black. I wasn’t so scared of the chocolate stuff, but this explains why my impulse purchase of strawberry milkshake earrings from Tommy fell in love with sweets always looked weird to me somehow. Not directly fashion related, but I'm losing my mind trying to tame my thin, wavy, frizzy hair. I can't get rid of flyaways whether I blow dry or air dry it, putting anything on it makes it either flat and oily or crispy-looking, and even if I manage to make it look decent my progress is ruined overnight (I sleep with a satin headcap on, but it doesn't seem to help that much). Keeping straight bangs is a pain too.

What do anons with this hair texture do? Any particular tips or products you recommend (preferably europoor-friendly)?

I have the same type of hair. The humidity plays a big role in managing this hair type. If your home has high humidity then what ever you do to it to make it smoother (flat iron, straightening with a hair dryer and brush) won't last long. It will get frizzy again in your sleep.
Fly aways are just shorter hairs that don't want to join the longer hairs, and as you have already found out there's nothing you can do (afaik) that doesn't flatten it, make it look crunchy or oily.
The best I found is using a flat iron or hairdryer brush with heat protectant, and then applying some bio silk afterwards on the day of the event. Just a drop, or two, otherwise it will look oily instantly. The downside of this is that the next day your hair will probably look oily.
Which shampoo, conditioner and styling you use is also going to make a difference. Some shampoos are too aggressive, some conditioners too heavy and greasy, some styling products make your hair look oily. I had a heat protectant that did this, I had to throw it out which is sad because it wasn't cheap. I'm currently using a cheap pharmacy brand that works quite well.
Here are some suggestions, if you've already tried them just ignore it: satin pillow case, use satin scrunchie, find out exactly which shampoo and conditioner works best for you (really makes a big difference), if you're sleeping without your satin cap then you should make a loose bun on top of your head, never sleep wit your hair loose, don't sleep on a rough cotton pillow case, absolutely never on a towel either, loosely braid your hair and put it in an updo if you don't have to look a certain way, you can even use a hair net on top to keep all of the hair contained, try anti frizz serums, try advice for people with curlier hair than yours. Curly hair that is treated like straight hair tends to look wavy and super frizzy, so your hair might actually be curlier than you realize.
Use a t-shirt to dry your hair after the shower.

Exactly this, sounds like your hair is curly and you aren't using the right products so it's coming out as frizz. Get a diffuser, stop brushing your hair unless it's soaked, try out some mousse/gels/leave in conditioner, oils. If you haven't tried the curly girl method it's worth looking at as a beginner and then changing out stuff or adding or taking out when yous ee how it affects your hair.

Are Na+H and Antique Beast worth the price? I've been considering delving more into goth/EGL and I love how these brands' pieces look on promotional images, but I'd like to get some feedback before I commit to spending that much money on a whole new wardrobe.

I don't use a flat iron unless I want to have poker straight hair. I usually only do that for special occasions and events. What I do for the day to day is I use a hairdryer brush, and with that I mean a hairdryer with a brush attachment. After I've washed my hair I wait until it's 80% dry then use the hairdryer brush to straighten and smooth it. I use a heat protectant because although it doesn't get as hot as with a flat iron your hair still gets hot using the hair dryer brush when it's almost dry. Then the next day if the humidity made my hair a little frizzy or wavy again I just do a quick brush through with the hair dryer brush.
btw if I am doing a braided style I don't straighten/smooth it except for the bangs. I wear lolita 3 to 4 days a week if there's no activity that involves getting dirty. When it comes to casual mainstream wear I don't care that much about what my hair looks like, I just try to keep it from tangling and breaking and often just want it out of my face.

I have this little digital clock that cost me only a few bucks, that tells not only the time but the temperature and humidity in the house as well. Before we renovated the place the humidity could be 80% or more. Now it's around 50~60%. Ideal humidity indoor is 40~60%.

that's great! A satin pillowcase has 2 benefits that the cap doesn't have. When you sleep with the cap it is possible that it slips off. Happened to me a few times, I've learned to pull it far below my ears but it's no guarantee. The satin pillow case also prevents any creases in your face you might get from sleeping on a regular cotton pillow case. Supposedly the satin pillow case is good for your skin. I just think it is very comfortable to sleep on as well.

I can say that a lot of Antique Beast pieces are worth it A) aside from floral accessories (they can be a little wonky ime) B) if you can fit the measurements of main pieces (I had something custom sized and she just... didn't do the right measurements. Not sure if it was just lost in translation but it put me off.) The other accesories I've gotten from her (mostly rectangle headdresses and similar) are really beautiful and unique for decent prices.

my hair was like how yours sounds last year. i did the CG method for years through college, tried tons of different products. my hair really didn't like any of it, despite being curly, and i wasn't happy with it anyway. i also had a lot of breakage around the top of my hair and nape of my neck, it's finally unnoticeable. i did dump a lot of money and time into my routine; if you're not in a place to do that to find what products work for you, CG method and trying heatless curls might help tame things.

Depends on the problem areas. I think you should get the plus size (and then take it in to fit you) if
-the shoulder width of the regular size is too small -the bust and/or waist of the regular size is not comfortable -the regular size sleeves, bodice and/or skirt portion are too short - the neck opening (for example in dresses with a high collar or peter pan collar on a stand that fits pretty closely to the neck) is too small for comfort -the skirt of the regular size doesn't have enough volume (aka "the flat butt problem") in general or just at the upper tier of the skirt - the sleeve cuffs are too tight for comfort and don't have elastic

If it's only the sleeve cuffs then it's probably much quicker to just alter the sleeve cuffs of the regular size if you can get matching fabric, but for the other problems I suggest getting the plus size and taking it in where necessary. I know the plus size is more expensive and that alterations take money and/or time, but you deserve to be comfortable in your clothes.

It depends on how much you like whats currently in stock. Most stores dont have a ton of stock but you can predict whats in stock as its basically only recent releases, matching whats online. The only real benefit you have going irl is not needing to pay for shipping/customs, and depending on the store the ability to try on things.
